- We’re well into winter, which means we’re also deep into cold and flu season. So what better time to make the Penicillin: a bold, smoky, sweet, and spicy cocktail. Garnished with a ginger candy or with something a little bolder. For ingredients you’ll need smoky, Islay scotch such as Laphroaig or Laguvullin. You’ll only use a little but a little goes a long way if it’s smoky enough. Blended scotch, such as Monkey Shoulder or Johnny Walker Black but never red, some 3:1 honey syrup, fresh lemon juice, and some fresh, sliced ginger.
*do not follow my chopping technique LOL*
Penicillin Recipe
-2 ounces blended scotch whiskey
-1/4 ounce smoky Islay Scotch
-3/4 ounce 3:1 honey syrup
-3/4 ounce lemon juice
-5-6 ginger slices
-garnish: ginger candy, lemon slice, or brûléed ginger slice
This would be perfect for snuggling against the weather!! And to kick a sore throats butt!!
Love the jazz music too.!!
@@GayleColeman-f6q absolutely! It’s a delight and definitely has a throat warming quality to it
this might make a scotch enjoyer out of me yet 👀
@@khadijahplummerconsulting it certainly moved the needle for me! Looking forward to making more scotch cocktails in the future.
I love this cocktail so much always order it when I see it on the menu
@@gnomestavern8285 same here! Such exciting flavours
Wow! This looks amazing!!! I bet this could cure the Vid
@@DanaDuff haha, you may have to check with your doctor on that one!
One of my all time winter favourites with a spicy ginger 🫚 honey 🍯
@@stephane.foisy.186 me too! It adds so much warmth for a cold drink
It's a good drink, I'll usually get one if I see it on a cocktail list. One minor point though, the single malt is usually floated on top, not mixed in the drink. Keeps that smokey character in front throughout the drink. that way.
@@mmtx73 yes, that’s the Milk & Honey way but I find drinks better when everything is well incorporated. The smoke can also kill your palate for the rest of the cocktail
@BetterAvecBourbon interesting point! I'll have to try it and see. Just gotta get some ginger now...
@ haha, you’ll have to let me know what you think! I may try with black label instead to see if I enjoy the extra peat or not
Get a small cutting board and a sharp knife. Your knife use is terrifying.
@@Leadandsteel_73 that was my suggestion in the audio, and stated the plate was to protect the bar.
@@Leadandsteel_73 but you’re absolutely correct about the knife: I was too stubborn to use a mandolin for something so small
