Piers Morgan tells Dale that while he believes in Just Stop Oil's cause he can't get behind their methods, before the discussion quickly turns into a war of words over veganism, with Piers asking Dale whether he eats avocados, pointing out how the production kills 'billions' of bees.

@@moonants Defeats the object, it's the batteries that are the problem (that's where the extra 70% min Co2 comes from) plus cost of using rapid chargers and how the electricity is generated. Here on the south coast power is delivered by Scottish and Southern and all power delivered to the south coast comes from fossil fuels no matter who you pay your bill to. Just keep the car you have until Hydrogen eventually comes into play.

Just because someone is not Vegan or Vegetarian does not mean they're exempt from having principles.
I'm not a Vegan - but my Mum is. She has been a Vegetarian all her life and then converted to Veganism about 10-15 years ago. She is in her 70's - and still wakes up early and does yoga first thing. She is very healthy. We need to drop this discussion about one life-style being healthier than the other life-style.
No we don’t need to drop the conversation when so many people have also had a different experience and injured their health on a vegan lifestyle which was promoted to them. There is certainly no one size fits all and vegan diets have been a disaster for many people in developed countries. There is no ancestral precedent for veganism.

What he fails to understand is that bees matter for all agriculture, not only for avocados and almonds. Most of the world's productions is to feed livestock, so, bees exploitation on that industry is of a different magnitude. This debate about avocados is just disingenuous and Piers just sounds like a spoiled brat.
He could have ended that whole almonds and avocados interrogation with one simple answer: "Because like all people, I haven't gone through my whole life with spotless ideological perfection."

Btw, for your knowledge, oil can be made synthetically to address your nonsequitar response. But, to be clear, since you're so uneducated, I'm not advocating ending all fossil fuels/products or requiring only synthetic replacements. However, beauty products, especially those using petroleum, should be voluntarily abandoned by enlightened citizens but probably not legislated out of existence.

He focuses on ethical arguments, and having looked at the vegan ideology realised he would have to become vegan himself to align with his own ethical views. After maintaining this for a long period, he accepted it was too hard for him, he had health issues etc and went back to eating meat. It’s ok to just do what you can, even if you wish you could do more.

We have circumvented the natural order by having the intelligence to trap, hunt and COOK and thus be able to chew and swallow the meat. It's a workaround. I'm sure not a vegan but this guy nailed it when he said Piers paints everything with extreme brush strokes and constantly uses anticdotes. He is a good interviewer but his show just rails on about trans issues, vegans, environmenmtal protesters, culture wars. I don't think he even bvelieves has of what he says. This is poor journalism. I don't agree with everything this guy says but he has more brains in his baby fingure than Piers will ever had.
Piers was only trying to trap Dale with red herrings and falsities. Avocados aside, if we all just made the effort to eat less meat and do what we can then there would be less problem. I'm not sure why Piers is harping on about principles and black and white stuff that isn't helpful at all. It's best for people to try to make clean chocies and get some of them wrong, or compromise a bit - than just give up and put the blinders on.

People against green cars complain that there is a bigger foot print to make them - yes but leave a way smaller foot print over their life time. These are messy issues and the answer is never going to be perfect or without pain. Conservatives are really good at picking apart ways to save the environment but horrible about offering any solutions. All the while is tipping point is coming. I live in Canada - today is the worst air quality in the history of the country since we started tracking sue to wild fires - climate records that have lasted hundreds of years are broken on a yearly basis now. The environment is not on our timeline - we are on it's timeline.

The bees do get killed. For example, there is a mite plague in Australia. As the bees get trucked around, the mite plague transfers from bee colony to bee colony. It's got to the stage that when a bee colony is known to be infected, the entire colony is exterminated. Whatever we eat, the entire planet is dependent on bees. Without bees, there is limited pollination which affects plants on which all animals and humans are dependent.
They come from honey industry. This doesn’t need to happen. There’s other ways.

Massively against animal cruelty. I am from Devon and surrounded dairy farms. We have never and i don't know a farm around me who does, ever shot a calf. We raise them for herd replacements or sell them to be raised as beef.
I believe there could be huge strides made for sustainability in farming and all essential industries..... British farming policy is leading the world in environmental reform and we are proud to be doing so.

But he was massively misinformed about the treatment of animals. The calves produced in dairies are sold for cheap and the males are used for beef once they grow while the females are often kept by the dairy or sold privately to use as recip's for embryos.
Also any vegan that claims cows live in stalls instead of grazing on grass reveals that they've no clue what they're talkin' about.

I grew up on a dairy farm and we never once killed a calf after birth and i know every farmer around us didn't either...maybe it happens in other countries (i.e Brazil) but the vegan movement choose the most extreme model as a basis of their argument. Our animals have their bed made, their houses cleaned, their food supplied, fresh grass when weather permits, constantly have their health monitored, relieved from the carrying their milk around. They have a better life than millions of humans.
