I’ve got a story, I’m 59 and I’ve never done my eyebrows. I got them plucked when I was 16 and I cried. I’ve had them waxed 3 times. So I go into Mac and I say I want to do my brows I tell this poor girl I’ve never done them and she shows me Mac brow set, perfect for me because I need something that’s a no brainer. I ask her about blush, she shows me warm soul, I tell her it’s too light, she tries it on me it’s beautiful. This young girl showed me I CAN wear shimmer eyeshadow and red lipstick. I left there feeling more youthful. I look for her when I go to the Mac Store and if she’s not there I don’t usually stay. I just trust that she will show me what suits my age and skin type. What a gift it is to make others feel beautiful.
That's such a great story 🥰 I always used makeup every day but after my health issues became too severe and I had to quit working and couldn't continue to domy hobbies I used makeup as my creative outlet, my try to feel not only sick. I watched UA-cam and went down the rabbit hole of tutorials and all the thousand little steps 😂 makeup can be a great benefit and I 'm happy you met this mac artist!
I have never sat and watched a 37 minute UA-cam video...until now! As someone who worked in retail cosmetics for over 20 years I was in agreement with so much of what you said. When you talked about the drunk customer I had to laugh. I worked at the Armani counter in the Bellagio in Las Vegas for 3 years. I had drunk customers all time! I also met a lot of celebs so that was fun. I adore MAC and have my 40% off pro card but I went cruelty free about six months ago and it’s been so hard not to buy it! I LOVE the pro longwear foundation, the blot powder, the skin refined zone, so many things! Lastly, I am so glad I started to watch your channel more. You are so talented and like-able and my jaw dropped when you said you had four kids!!! This was a GREAT, informative video!
As a consumer there is nothing I hate more than people trying to sell me more than I want or need. I know it isn't their fault, so I would never be rude. In fact, that's why I no longer go to the Mac counter. Lush is another store I avoid for the same reason. It takes the enjoyment out of shopping for something fun.
I’m the same! If I’m not looking for something specific and just browsing through new products it gets super annoying to have a pushy salesperson trying to force items on me. There are times that I just want to get a specific item and get out. But if I’m needing something, like a new brow product (it’s a constant search for the best products) I will ask a salesperson for help. I don’t want to waste my time or anyone else’s if I’m not serious about buying.
This was an extremely well presented and thorough video on your experience at Mac. As a current Mac employee, I recognized and agreed with a lot of the things you said especially the pressure to perform that is on employees shoulders every day. It is particularly present today now that Mac isn't the Makeup Titan it used to be thanks to all the indie brands that came up and attracted half of its clientele. That pressure is making employees focus more on sales than artistry making the job less fun. Of course, Mac is trying their best to fix that issue. I have faith it will get resolved with some goodwill. I also agreed with the gratis system. It used to be more consistent but now that the PR contraband settled in for everybody, employees receive less which is truly unfair. For every customer that has had a bad experience, please don't curse the brand, it was just ONE person. Give them another chance or someone else another chance and you might be surprised. Again, excellent video Mel. ❤
This was super interesting! I’ve been guilty of just running in to get my free Back to MAC product several times. Now that I know I’m potentially messing up someone’s sales targets I’d rather hold off until I’m going in on a day I plan to do some shopping. I worked retail for years and we all need to look out for each other! 💄
I have to say this video almost brought me to tears, I feel like I was watching myself on screen. as a former freelancer who really fought hard for a permanent position and was hired as a full time artist and promoted to product specialist in a month, your story almost made me cringe with how relatable it is. I work in the metro nyc area and its VERY competitive and the stress is definitely on at all times, but I never take my job for granted and I truly do love working for a company that embraces individuality as much as we do. also...you would've made A BOMB ASS TRAINER!!!!
I appreciate your customer service ethics. If that girl wants that purple lipstick and it makes her look dead, let her have it!--I totally agree with you that makeup is so personal and it should make people happy;))
Mel. THIS👏🏼 EYE👏🏼LOOK👏🏼 I sure as heck hope there is a tutorial that is coming for it because it is STUNNING!!!! That being said, this video was great! Informative and real.. you have been 120% honest without bashing or praising for PR.. this is why you remain the best on the tube in my book.. your reliable and real and I’m HERE for it! I’m glad you can be grateful for what it taught you and now your doing you and living your best life ☺️ get it hunny!
Great video Mel! I was introduced to MAC many many years ago by my ex-husband who was a top fashion/print model and MAC was one of the main professional lines used, especially on male models. I remember Romero Jenkins doing my makeup many times in NY when he was a new makeup artist - he sold me my first makeup brushes in the roll!! I have always loved MAC products and still have my favorites.
You and Jaclyn Hill both started out at MAC and you both are excellent at eyeshadow tutorials. The best! I really enjoyed how positive and upbeat you were when talking about MAC.
So today was the last day of 25%off select members so I stopped by and I'm sad to say it sounds like things haven't changed. The people working there were very unfriendly. No one helps you. I had to go to the cashier and basically ask for the 3 products I wanted there and they still looked at me like I was crazy for asking them to get it for me. I mean... I could grab them myself if I could except they are in drawers so I must have someone that works there get it. One of the products I wanted was the primer eye base and instead they gave me the skin refine zone. Luckily I noticed before I left the store. When I told the person, he said it was in the place where the eye base should be so that's why he grabbed for that one. What kind of excuse is that? Horrible service! I never walk out of there happy to have shopped.
Your little chuckles are so sweet and real. I love that. No hate here, I am a positive person. I just cannot help but think of black olives cut when I see your ear plugs. Your under eye makeup is stunning. I love how you use colors everywhere. You who eyeshadow looks is perfect, but lower is amazing. You are so smart and helpful. I love your contact no matter what your topic.
I just moved away from my fave MAC store. Actually a UA-camr is the manager of that store. They were always so polite, but other stores do have that stigma. I don’t like when I’m ignored if I go in a store without makeup. I’m willing to spend way more if I’m a blank canvas.
I recognized soooo many things ! Was so interesting to watch. I currently work for MAC in Europe, so some things are a little different. You were so respectful in this video, a lot of ex employees of whatever brands make these hateful videos or do some kind of bashing but you just hit the pro's and con's in such a great way. It's been a stressful period with all the changes in focus etc and it's nice to hear someone else's perspective on the matter. Thank you for being such a humble & kind person !
As a mac artist for 10 years before I left, I have to agree with what you said. I wouldn't be where I am today without the experience. That said the only regret I have is staying with them as long as I did. It's alot of pressure and alot of time away from family. You miss out on alot when working retail. People forget it's a retail job at the end if the day.
Puffins Wife I was nervous to leave because it's all I ever known. It was literally my life. I am who I am personally and professionally because of that experience so it was tough. But now I have my own business and I make my own hours. I have beautiful brides and an amazing clientele who are so loyal. I'm the happiest I have ever been. And look where you are now! It's worth the experience but not so much to the point you become bitter and sad. Working with people in sales is so tough. Everyone should do it once!
I am totally becoming a MAC junkie again. They really are just so good. I bought the studio fix foundation a few weeks ago for the first time (for myself not for clients) and man its a beautiful beautiful foundation! I love all these you've talked about
I am so happy that U had the wisdom to leave Mac when U did. alot of ppl work at a job that they have lost the passion for but need to pay the bills. They don"t have the courage to step out like U did & it affects their health. Congratulations!! for following your heart. Remember, ppl success is a journey not a destination.
You are absolutely gorgeous lady. I've just finished chemo and would LOVE to rock this short hair when it eventually grows in. Thanks for being so lovely. 😘
Wow... love this video. Thanks for being so honest. I am a sales associate at another Estee brand and I related so so much. My favorite part of the job is helping people feel really good about themselves and my gripe is how much pressure they put on us to perform... no matter how well I do it feels like it’s not good enough and I try really really hard. Luckily I love the people I work with. Thanks for all the recs. I just got the pro longwear nourishing waterproof foundation and I am loving it!
Your positivity says it all I love your compassion and warm soul. You pretty much summed it all for most beauty lines in which I worked for almost 30 years. The stress for higher goals, opening accounts etc was taken away from our artrisry and passion. Thanks for all your videos
You are such a beautiful person inside and out! When you said you were the top salesperson at your mac store I was not surprised at all - you are genuine and knowledgeable! Plus your style is everything❤
Good god, the worst service I get and continue to get is at MAC. The IPT help is zippo, nor do I have any experience with it. The only service I have ever gotten is an invitation to come to an application evening, but only if I committed to a $100 purchase in advance? NO THANKS.I would never commit to that arm twisting. MAC punishing the sales associates for the freebie is INSANE as company policy. Quality is sometimes questionable these days, the experience in the store is often not good, so I often go elsewhere. Signed, Woman of quality with the ability to pay. MAC you blew it. Mel, you deserve better and MAC does not deserve you
I interviewed for MAC and was so excited and thought it was a dream come true- I got to the final interview and at the end they said I had that "stereotypical unapproachable MAC look" and didn't get it because they're trying to kinda rebrand the company. But I swear I'm a nice person 😔. I mean heck I cheered for over 10 years, half of which was colligate and thought I was a genuinely nice and personable. It really upset me because I really have no idea how to work on that.
Maybe it wasn't the right time or store. Never give up on your dreams. As my mom used to tell me God doesn't close one door without opening another. Something better for you is just around the corner!!! You have all of us cheering you on!!!!
Mel this video made me tear up for a second when you told the story about one of your favorite clients. The girl that felt like insecure. That was really touching to get a small glimpse into what kind of person you are.I've always thought you're extremely talented.I haven't been a sub for very long but I'm so happy that I am.
I will never, ever just go in to do my Back to Mac again without buying at least a lipgloss lol! Thanks, for the PSA, Mel! The story about the girl and the studio sculpt actually made me tear up...that's the power of makeup! Love that you made her walk taller and feel better about herself!!! xo
IKR, I abhor sales but as a customer I understand that the sales associate can get dinged if they don’t produce sales so I purchase something in addition to that free lipstick.
I really love going to MAC. I find everyone amazing and really give you useful tips. Even though you can tell that they want to sell you more than you want to buy, I never bought anything recommended by them and went home and thought, "this is terrible for me." That has happened at Sephora frequently...
I did a year at Harvey Nichols in Personal Shopping. Mac were the only ones that worked as hard as we did. We had to sell on every floor including food. I used to walk at least 10 miles a day, with twenty or more clothes in my arms. I weighed 7 stones when i left (I am back to 8 1/2 now). Like you I made friends with a brilliant MAC artist who left just before me to go to Selfridges. I once did a 10 til 10 shift at Christmas. I had left my car as parking was very hard at that time of year. I barely made it out of the building and my legs started to shake and I (remember we were running around on all the floors) staggered to a bench and sat there until I could stand and made it to the bus stop. Soon after that, I was diagnosed as an Arthritic with Lupus overlap and an enlarged heart, Chronic Asthma and my left kidney failed (my right one did the same 2 years later). What I would say is if I had been healthy I would not have left. I loved all of it. God has a way of slowing you down when you refuse too. That was back in 2006 and I am still alive. Long may that continue.
Dang!!! Sorry you had to go through all that. That’s kinda what I do now...I didn’t know I could walk more or work harder than I did at Mac until I started as a beauty stylist at Nordies. I, like you said...work 3 floors. Mainly one, but I am all over the place. Hence, why I fell on the clothing floor lol (that’s why I am on medical leave)
the folk at my mac store here in Nova Scotia, Canada are mostly all very very friendly and super helpful!!! but then again, that is the Maritime way here....great, informative video!!! I have loved and collected MAC all of my adult life!! tfs xo
i've always had good experiences at MAC in Quebec. Sure if they're swamped it takes a bit longer to get help, but they were still friendly and let you know someone would be there when they could. I stopped going for a while and came back and they're just as friendly as back in the day.
Thank you very much for sharing this. I've had my job for almost seven years, and I really like it, but lately it's so much more pressure and so exhausting that I got anxiety and depression and I've been off for a month now because of that. I don't know yet when doctors say I'm coming back to work. What you say about anxiety is true, maybe it's time for me to go and look for something better, even when i'm scared and it seems like the end of the world right now (because I love this job), but it's not. This video helped me to open my eyes and made me feel better, thank you for that!
Yes, no job is worth that kind of stress. I was scared to leave because I didn't know if I would find something else and I worked so hard to get "the MAC job"...why would I give that up? Right? So glad that I did tho. I love where I am now...I still have goals and stress, but so much more manageable. Plus, the people around me are supportive and encouraging. I never missed my goals at mac but instead of them saying, great job..keep up the good work, it was.....well, if you can do this much, you can also do this much. BS.
Puffins Wife yes!! This is exactly what I'm going through. I hope I find the right thing for me and things get better. Thank you very much for your words, lots of love!! 🤗
Oh my god, every time my boyfriend gets a text message I automatically get stressed because it's usually one of his employees texting to say that they need his help with something stupid (drives me absolutely nuts!!)... so now whenever I hear that ringtone on someone's phone in a store or wherever I automatically get suuuuper anxious 😩 I've been Pavlov'd by a dang ringtone!!!
I always knew you were a wonderful person, but after watching this, you are one amazing lady!! Your are so honest, kind, and truly a wonderful wonderful person. Your family and friends are lucky to have you☺️☺️
Thank you Mel, for sharing your time with Mac, very informative and funny, but I must say Mac is the first where they have their make up artist are hands on, very professional and I still love Mac, great video, 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😍
I watched your videos on eyes & brows and I learned so much! My eyes are looking so much better. I had never been able to apply mascara on my bottom lashes but now I I can ! Now that I am getting older my eyes are my best features and now I so love how they look! Thanks 🙏
I don’t know where these ‘it’ girl/boy MAC MUA artists work, because I have never had a bad experience -ever‼️ I live in Southern Cali and I have had good experiences whether it was in the Pro store, Nordstrom, Macy’s or Bloomies. There was a time that I really wanted to work for MAC, but admit to being intimidated by the interview process. Good vid❣️🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
So many lovely and talented people have been MAC artists. The problem with these corporates is the actual ideaology of the company. MAC implemented systems designed to put staff under stress. The staff are then more likely to be pushy for sales and this puts off customers.
Yes, You are so right! I actually avoid going to MAC for that reason. Sometimes you just want to "LOOK," to see what's new, or check out a product you heard about on UA-cam. I don't want to worry about someone getting mad at me because I don't want to buy something that day, and then I leave feeling bad.
Great video! I used to work at a Sephora in jcp, and what you said is the same reason I left! I LOVED my job when I first started working their. But then some other stores started opening up in areas where we got a lot of customers from. And of course with so much social media/UA-cam people started coming in for a lot of luxury products dior, hourglass ect. That Sephora’s in jcp didn’t carry (not thats a bad thing or UA-camrs fault) but it went from fun with clients and teaching clients, to sell sell sell. There was SO much pressure to sell and that’d tell us we were spending too much time with this client and that client. We also worked off surveys, which is nice because it makes us work as a team more, vs working off of commission but also REALLY sucked, because most people simply just forget to do the survey’s. Not to mention you only had 7 days to do the surveys so if they lost there receipt and then found it, and did it it wouldn’t count! It just became more stress and anxiety then it was worth. I struggle with a lot of chronic health issues, and that kind of anxiety and coming home crying most days wasn’t worth it! 🤷♀️
this was so much fun to watch, even though I have no interest in becoming a makeup artist. You've got a great personality that I'm sure I would have bought tons from you even if I just came in for a back to Mac!
This is the video that finally had me hitting the subscribe button. No wonder so many people adore you! Not only are you beautiful and engaging as can be, but because of all the information you packed into this, you've actually done the impossible: You've made me want to visit a MAC store! You really are a gem :)
This is an old video and old eye palette, but I am just dying for this eye look. That undereye smoke out is BOMB. I think we need some kind of RV 'meetup and makeup jamboree weekend' in the country to visit you, so you can teach us all this stuff. People would pay big!
Girl I loved listening to this!!! I was a hair colorist for three years and I know that feeling of making someone's day and giving them confidence they didn't have before. It's such a good feeling 💜
You just made me remember my days as a makeup artist! This was such a heart warming video. Thank you for taking the time and sharing your personal stories with us - I respect you even more now. And by the way, the haircut is killing it! ❤️❤️❤️
Wow Mel! This video was so awesome and educational, it made me really happy. It shows that you put a lot of thought and effort into it. Thank you for keeping it real and nuanced and staying true to yourself. This is probably the best MAC related video I've seen on UA-cam and girl, I've seen a lot. ;) I'm sure you were and amazing MAC artist! I kinda miss seeing more MAC products on your channel like back in the day but at the same time I appreciate that you have grown. Keep up the great work! xx
Great information thank you . Was checking out older IT posts and enjoyed seeing the love and laughter with you and your family ❤️ you got it girl , loving the dream.
I'm watching this in 2021. MAC isn't talked about much anymore but after watching this I wanna get a couple of the primers you mentioned. I was surprised when I first heard about the stigma surrounding MAC associates. My experience here in Canada has always been positive at a MAC store and counter. Thank you for sharing your stories. It was so interesting!
Great video! I love that you were positive and you told us about some of the negative, so real and honest! I’ve always had great service at MAC, I mean I’ve had a few instances that weren’t great but for the most part MAC remains number 1 in my book! MAC was my first high end makeup when I was in high school. I saved all my money to be able to buy MAC and at one point that was all I owned. I recently (within the last 2 years) started to get into other brands. Anywho, loved this video!
I just have to say. I went to see my Doctor once and my Scoliosis was causing my life to feel like it was crashing down around me. My doctor asked me how I was and I just broke down... I was in so much pain, physically and mentally... Afterwards, I looked a mess. I went into my local Boots and asked the Smashbox girl if she could help me. She reapplied my makeup and didn't try to push me for a sale, she just reassured me that we all have down days and was the sweetest. She gave me the confidence to walk back into work and feel like I was OK again... I loved her for that GxXx
For those of us who now refuse to go into that store, we pay too much for products just to be ignored. But you seem very nice & your makeup is beautiful!
Fabulous video. It is interesting to know about the IPT. Some of the things that have happened in MAC stores make sense now. The fact that they are penalizing the MUAs for the Back To MAC program is just crazy. I've noticed they have finally stepped up their social media game but it started from such a low (non-existent?) level that anything is a step up. I'm still amazed there isn't a MAC app for my phone. So far as the MAC employees go I have never had issues with 90% of them. The other 10% probably shouldn't be in any job that involves dealing with the public.
This was so incredibly helpful and good to know! I am more than happy to wait and redeem my free lipstick when it’s time to restock on other stuff, and it explains any of the weird attitudes I may have gotten. I feel like everyone should know about those systems so they have more understanding and empathy for the employees and their way of selling. Especially people like me who’ve been lucky enough not to have to work retail.
The #ChanelOOO moment! Remember if not Chanel, you get to be everything. You stated it so well, it's fascinating to hear the artist's side. Not all artist's are you or even close. When I went to that store, there were plenty of greetings, not huddling, which I was not accustomed to. I will include that shopping at a Nordstrom beats most experiences, with one exception being a Honda dealership. It's not hard to tell you're just naturally genuine and want to assist people by sharing your knowledge and impeccable artistry. You're one of the most inwardly beautiful person that I've met in my entire 44 year's, and yes, you are even more stunningly beautiful in real life. Thank you for sharing your M•A•C experience, and for continuing to contribute that Mel magic in every post you share, I love you, my friend 💜
I worked at a high end big mall MAC store, and I still have PTSD from my experience. My skills were never an issue, my sales were never an issue, highest IPS, highest capture rate (getting customers contact info), highest average, in fact, they wrote me up at my 6 month mark over something that had nothing to do with me, because I was being hired for management, but I had the highest sales numbers, and they couldn't afford to take me off the floor and still make their goals. If you are written up, you can't get a raise or a promotion for 6 months. It wasn't my co-worker having an affair with my husband, that ended it for me. It was when I came back from intensive therapy early, so the store wouldn't miss their goal, asking them to be understanding of the situation, and they wrote me up at exactly the next 6 month mark for being late for a shift. Yeah, you get a lot of free and cheap makeup, but what is that worth in the end. It was my dream job since I was a teenager, and it was the worst year of my life.
I thoroughly enjoyed this and totally relate to a lot of it as I have been working in cosmetics retail for many years!! I did try to get in the door with MAC and I don’t know if they are “ageist” but I was the oldest one there, & didn’t get the job. I currently work for Hourglass in Blue Mercury & I love it. Thank you for sharing!!!
My Daughter worked for Mac, she is Certified, passed the tests and her certification, went to all the training classes, She loved it!!! She worked for the Nordstrom in Las Vegas!!!
Mel what a great video, your positivity is so refreshing. I teared up when you 1st talked about Kelsey, so sweet. And also at the memory of the girl who you helped find good coverage for. I can't believe you mentioned that Mac Prep/Prime skin smoother!! I had that in my Nordstrom Rack basket!! I just purchased the Tatcha primer and thought maybe this would be similar. BTW I have only used the Tatcha 2 times, so far so good, but it is quite expensive. I now have that soft rose in my Mac basket. It's so pretty. I had never noticed it before. Thank you for sharing and you are lovely as always. 😘🤗
I assist root canals for a living (endodontic assistant) and working at Mac and getting those certifications sounds harder than my job!! Lol kudos to you tho girl, you obviously learned a lot there cuz you have amazing makeup skills!
I can relate to this so much! You truly are the best Mel! ☺️❤️I just recently left ulta. I think Ulta is at the bottom of the beauty store artistry wise mac and sephora deff have better artists. I will say tho they push their employees to the limit. I built my store, was there from day one. We were pushing our loyalty program down peoples throats. I was a prestige advisor so I rarely checked people out so when I missed one I was down to like 50%. I would leave upset and discouraged all the time. We had great trainings but I will say if you weren’t a friend to the managers you didn’t get to go to them as often or get as much gratis. This bothered me, there were great girls that worked their asses off but bc they weren’t buddy buddy with the manager they were left out. This didn’t sit well with me at all! I love makeup and beauty and helping people but this job made me start dreading going to work. I’ve been so much happier being in a better environment. I’m kinda stuck with where I should go next. How did you find a job position in Nordstrom? I think maybe working for a direct brand may suit me better? Do you have any tips?
That’s definitely the unfortunate truth for a lot of companies. I hate that. Nordstrom has been far better for me...but I don’t work for a brand. I think the environment alone is better than. At lease, it’s been my experience. It’s always worth a try if you aren’t happy where you are :)
Awesome video! So interesting. It makes me look at the Mac Artists in whole different way. It must be very difficult to work under so much pressure every single day. I have so much respect for you and what you've accomplished. I'm glad you found a job that makes you happy. They're lucky to have you!
OMG this is such an informative video! i didn't know that the freebie thing is an issue in the stores, i wonder why MAC does that because it doesn't really make sense to do it. People don't want to be shopping and spending money all the time, so the fact that the artists try to push products on you is more of a turn off for me than a good sales pitch. I love your videos!!
Gosh, I have never had a negative experience at MAC. I usually go to a MAC store, and the staff have been exceptional. They even remember me. I also have had excellent experience with the artists online as well. I have had very poor service at Sephora and Ulta, though! I guess it is hit or miss. I love the all black clothes look, the whole vibe of MAC.
Hi there! Just discovered your channel! Love the eye look and your laugh! I have been a MAC wearer and collector for 20+ years now and have always wondered why the customer service had changed so drastically in the past years. Thanks for the insight! Still love the brand as it was the first I ever used once I started using makeup at age 21!😍🤣❤️
One of my reasons for not going to stand alone mac stores is they are on top of me the entire time. I have to let them know im looking, when im ready i will let you know. I wish i would be ignored, instead its one after another in my face and im just wanting to look for, play with colors and buy makeup. There must be a happy medium. I also hate the way they take the product ive chosen and hold it at the front. Buying makeup is an experience.
Agreed! There’s been times I️ actually just leave bc they won’t give me the space to look at the things I came there for. The WORST is when the stores empty and all the associates are hovering around you bc they want to be the one to get the sale, and I️ do feel bad for them bc they too are probably stressed out, but come on. 🤷🏻♀️
Sooooo you are COMPLAINING BECAUSE WE ARE TRYING TO HELP YOU??? BECAUSE WE KNOW BEST HOW OUR PRODUCTS WORK AND WE CAN TEACH YOU THAT!!!! But I guess that’s even TOO MUCH to do....TO HELP SOMEONE!!!! If you see an artist standing around doing nothing GUESS WHAT?? We are WAITING for you to asks us for help!
By the way: I‘ve never had a bad experience with Mac girls. Literally never. Of course, sometimes I had to wait a bit or the sales people were stressed because the counter was crowded. But nothing that would stick in my mind. And I‘ve been in Mac stores/counters in Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Hungary, South Africa etc.
Glad you made it clear about your Mac job. No job is worth that stress. I think that any job that causes anxiety is a bunch of BS. No company should put their employees through that much anxiety. I totally understand where you're coming from because I've been there. In management and and sales I've done that and it is not worth it. You have to stay true to yourself.
I am old and it is so intimidating to go to a makeup counter.....I am glad the on line shopping is there.....you look devine...those eyes just reach out and grab.....and your brows are exquisite......great video.
Mel, you are my kinda gal! You are confident, knowledgeable, great at makeup, genuine, you work hard and you have a good heart! I'm so glad I found you on UA-cam, I was getting tired of the phony UA-camrs and then I saw one of your videos, so I've been binge watching which is awesome bc you upload so much! I feel like we'd be great friends, and I don't normally feel like that a lot lol! Thanks for the great videos!
Love love their foundation powder compact just looks so natural on my skin Keeps oils down all day long No need apply and don't have any annoying powder foundation line Will always go back to Mac for it
I’ve got a story, I’m 59 and I’ve never done my eyebrows.
Awwwwwww, what a lovely comment. I hope you're still knocking everyone's socks off, looking glam. 😘
Risa Does Makeup Hey Risa! I just found your channel the other day and started watching your videos, so you got a new sub outta me!!! 😍
It sounds like you probably have some great (no name) stories, Risa. Did you ever do a video on this?
As a consumer there is nothing I hate more than people trying to sell me more than I want or need. I know it isn't their fault, so I would never be rude. In fact, that's why I no longer go to the Mac counter. Lush is another store I avoid for the same reason. It takes the enjoyment out of shopping for something fun.
Oh yea! I know what I want when I go into lush but I learn about the same new product ten times before I leave.
Completely agree about Lush, it’s so off putting. I like a few Lush products but absolutely hate going into the store.

our mac employees must be lazy , they dont do it where i go lol
Christy Pascale thank you! And I agree with everything you said. Thank you, also, for watching til the end ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'd love it if all sales assistance were like you , bubbly and liking the job really makes a difference to customers feeling at ease xxx
Thanks, boo!!
Yes!Please! This eye look is beautiful!
Mac artists so unique , when u put 10 artists from mix brands , I can tell immediately who from Mac
You and Jaclyn Hill both started out at MAC and you both are excellent at eyeshadow tutorials. The best!
I really enjoyed how positive and upbeat you were when talking about MAC.
Thank you!!!
I used to watch her all the time just for those eye tutorials!!!
Right!!! If I go to a makeup store without makeup...it would mean that I am READY to play and buy! Lol
Me too. If i have nothing on i mean business
i never wear makeup when i go shop for it , i didnt know they ignored you for this ! i do it on purpose so i can try colors
Can you tell us the channel name so I can check out her/his channel ? If not, I understand. Thanks.
Thank you!!!
I appreciate your kind words!!!
4 kids?!?! I want your genes when I have kids. You look amazing and so young!
Lynda XE Say what?! I missed that. I thought she was in her late twenties? Xo
You can still have four kids in your late twenties. lol
I have no idea how old she is but she has a video about makeup for mature skin so I'm assuming she's at least 30-35 although she doesn't look like it.
Lynda XE Mel is either 32 or 33 bday in August
Lynda XE girl I thought THE SAME thing!! 4 kids?!?! Wow that’s impressive!
Great honest, upfront, candid video Angel Melissa.
I have heard so many people say that...I am so glad that I finally got the nerve to leave. It took me a while to actually do it.
I love all these you've talked about
I still dont understand how you dont have millions of subs...your talent, beauty, and just how amazing you are as a person.... is astounding!
Thank you!!!!
Mel, you deserve better and MAC does not deserve you
What a passion ! If I'd ever met her I would have listened to every word ,all day long ! That's a professional not just an employee .🦋💕
I am just watching videos I haven't got around to watching.... I miss you, Mel. 😭💔
I worked at MAC in Canada for 4 years! This was so fun to hear. I loved having regular clients ❤️
I worked for MAC in NYC for 12 years from 98 to 2010. Best time of my life.
Wow!!! I had never heard that before!!! I’m sorry :(
I am so sorry!! Don't give up!! Try try again- at a different store. Xo's!!🌠🌠
Damn... that is soo messed up!! Don't give up!! They ddnt deserve you...
Maybe it wasn't the right time or store. Never give up on your dreams. As my mom used to tell me God doesn't close one door without opening another. Something better for you is just around the corner!!! You have all of us cheering you on!!!!
You're most likely exactly who's needed.
Mel this video made me tear up for a second when you told the story about one of your favorite clients. The girl that felt like insecure. That was really touching to get a small glimpse into what kind of person you are.I've always thought you're extremely talented.I haven't been a sub for very long but I'm so happy that I am.
Thank you, love :) XOXOXOX
I will never, ever just go in to do my Back to Mac again without buying at least a lipgloss lol! Thanks, for the PSA, Mel! The story about the girl and the studio sculpt actually made me tear up...that's the power of makeup! Love that you made her walk taller and feel better about herself!!! xo
LOL!!!!
Awe, I tear up thinking about her. I will never forget her :)
Your family and friends are lucky to have you☺️☺️
Thank you so much!!!
Thank you Mel, for sharing your time with Mac, very informative and funny, but I must say Mac is the first where they have their make up artist are hands on, very professional and I still love Mac, great video, 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😍
Blue Clouds Me too!!! There always put together!
This was so much fun Mel. I love how fresh you are! It was liking sitting with a good friend and listening to them talk. Xoxox
I loved the wonderful , honest way you told us about your experience. I can tell by the way you talk you are a positive, fun person.
"Let her live her best life" loved it!
Love MAC!! And that eye look!! Can we get a tutorial? 🙏🏽❤️💋
Yasssss plss
Yes please. Is there a tutorial for this eye look?
I have always thought Mac Artists have something Unique then other Artists from other lines or other Artists!!!
this was so much fun to watch, even though I have no interest in becoming a makeup artist. You've got a great personality that I'm sure I would have bought tons from you even if I just came in for a back to Mac!
you are the sweetest person - that story about the girl at the mirror - so lovely!
Love the longer kinda video's, thank you!
Me: I want natural makeup today 😇
Evil me: *Now Let’s add a little glitter and some wing liner* 😈😈
LOL!!!
How often I do this to myself is not funny. 😖
Kirke910
Girl I don’t think I have ever been able to do natural looks, ever !!!😫
This is the video that finally had me hitting the subscribe button. No wonder so many people adore you! Not only are you beautiful and engaging as can be, but because of all the information you packed into this, you've actually done the impossible: You've made me want to visit a MAC store! You really are a gem :)
Thank you!!!!!
I really love your personality, Mel. I wish I lived closer so I could interact with you and talk and buy new makeup from you!, 💕
I'm watching this in 2021.
I really enjoy your channel Mel, your personality and your authenticity.
Fascinating! Another timeless video from Mel RIP xx
Mel, I just love your story.... you're such a sweet gal and you have changed peoples lives with your kindness. xoxo
You are seriously the best ever...ever! Thank you!!!
Am just missing you and going through some of your older videos this weekend & into the next week
I assist root canals for a living (endodontic assistant) and working at Mac and getting those certifications sounds harder than my job!! Lol kudos to you tho girl, you obviously learned a lot there cuz you have amazing makeup skills!
LOL!!!!!
I get so mad at you when you don’t do tutorials...... your eye looks are always amazing❤️. You are an excellent speaker by the way😉
LOL!!! Thank you!!
37 minutes went by like that! I love your videos so much. I learn from you!!
Your personality shine trough all the time ! Love it 😊
Worked for MAC way back before EL days! Love your honesty & openness, you’re just beautiful inside and out! ❤️
Thank you!!!
I wish I had been there for those days...I have always heard the best stories :)
With your talent I cant imagine you not passing ANY test!
Mac Pro longwear foundation is my holy grail. I always go back to it no matter what I try.
I I’m a current MAC freelancer and honestly you are on point on the feedback you gave !!! Another permanent artist told me the same thing ❤️❤️❤️
Ooooh!! I love your longer front hair in this!! I love your hair !
Happy Thanksgiving in Heaven Mel. You are loved and missed
That alarm sound is also one that I hate and that stresses me out so badly! But I guess that‘s because it‘s the tone for my alarm clock 😂
I need this eye look tutorial GIRL
omg meeting Reba would have been HEAVEN. I would have cried happy tears on the inside and the need to resist getting a picture would be so hard. lol
Thank you!!!
Thank you!!!!
Love love their foundation powder compact just looks so natural on my skin Keeps oils down all day long No need apply and don't have any annoying powder foundation line Will always go back to Mac for it
Good to know about the back to Mac thing. I’ll be conscious of that in the future.
