- Showcasing the pros and cons of the three primary options in the Makita 18V hedge trimmer lineup: the XHU07Z, XHU09Z, and the XHU02Z. The other options in the complete lineup are either 36V, pole trimmers, or variations in bar length. I try and show the details and differences between these models to help guide a potential consumer to make an educated informed purchase decision. If you have any additional questions/concerns, feel free to comment below and I'll do my best to address them. Thank you for your time, 13
man, what a great job reviewing both of these. very technical, and descriptive of both of these Makita products!
aww, wow, thanks, a nice youtube comment is so rare these days, lol. I hope it was helpful to you! I still love my Hedgetrimmer, btw, I use it every Sunday!
The 09 is a well needed updated design of the 02 with substantially faster blade speed and cut capacity. It’s also a fairly new model, not even a year old at this point I believe and that’s why there’s limited Information online about it. The longer teeth near the back act as a guard in case you hit your thigh or leg while trimming. I updated from the 02 to the 09 this spring and loving everything about the new one. Wish you had some action shots of using em both.
That's all fabulous information! Thank you so much for sharing! If those teeth are supposed to be guards, I would say the 07 certainly has a better design in that aspect. Not good enough to make me turn my back on the 09 though! :D That thing is killer!
Totally understand and agree with your request but I try not to abuse return policies so I wanted to keep the 07 in unused condition. If it was genuinely a close call between the two, I would have used them both to lock down my decision and documented that process... But I honestly had made up my mind well before I ever strapped a battery to either of em!
Yeah, the commercial ones usually have a dedicated removable guard.
Great review, thanks! I agree, the 09 is my preference as well. 👍👍
yay, thank you! Sometimes I do find myself wanting the handle to be oriented 90* differently, but not nearly enough for all the other unnecessary features, weight, and complexity.
i dont think any of the trimmers are limited to 3/8". The cheapest global model (DUH523) has a 15mm cutting capacity, about 7/16-5/8". The better models have 20mm so about 3/4". I think the 3/8" was a typo.
found the problem, in the US it is advertised as 3/5" cutting capacity, so they just used the metric 25mm = 1 inch, and converted 15mm to 3/5". I guess Makita is also revolutionizing the imperial measurement system by introducing inch-fifths.
@@wayward-saint I just relayed what was advertised/marketed. For sure, we silly Americans like to measure things in football fields, elephants, swimming pools, Empire State Buildings, etc...
Great video. Very helpful information. You made my choice. Thanks!
Oh that's wonderful to hear, thank you for the feedback! I'm so glad to be of assistance.
Thank you for all the information 🙏
I'm here to help! Glad it was useful!
Whats going wrong with my XHU07Z ? It cuts off with 2 lights flashing. Then starts working again Fresh batteries. Just started acting up today. I'm suspecting the grab / safety handle going bad. Amazon does not have tool only at this time. Home Depot $304. EBAY $278. P.S. Once you get a taste of the 45 degree head, you will not want anything else.
my dude, this is not a Makita tech support channel.
Beware of this fancy XHU07Z model, I read other reviews of one guy sending his back 6 TIMES! Another guy 2 times. More bells whistles = more things to go wrong a lot of times.
Makita needs to redesign that one.
I almost ordered the newest XHU10Z thinking it might be better than the XHU09Z but realized the XHU10Z had slower speed/less RPM's/power and smaller cutting diameter by about 1/8" (3/5" vs larger 3/4"), so check specs carefully before ordering one.
I just called Makita tech line, and the guy agreed if you want power/speed/able to cut up to 3/4" branches get the XHU09Z.
If you want wimpy/slow/quiet/no power/only able to cut small branches get the XHU10Z.
Exc job reviewing both!
thank you! kind words always appreciated!
still loving my hedgetrimmer, btw. Only change I made is I taped the trigger down permanently and use the safety as the 'on/off' with no safety... I acknowledge it's "dangerous" but it allows me to comfortably hold the trimmer at wild angles and sometimes even briefly one-handed.
