    Amazing video. You've inspired me to do this work myself instead of paying $1750 for replacement of compressor and condenser at audi repair shop.

    Great video and very informative too. My compressor also requires replacing and i plan to do this job at the weekend. I will be replacing the dryer also and my oil level sensor which seemed to die at the same time as the compressor (strange hey!!!). I drive an Audi A4 B8 and Audi have already confirmed the compressor is bad. They quoted me £1200 to replace (just before chrismas haha) but i already knew i could do the job much cheaper. Thanks anyway for this video

    Hi, great video!
    Does the two compressor hose connector not leaking, after you put them back? I was removing the air condition condenser, which is connected to the compressor, but when I put it back, it was leaking, because the bolt and the o-ring of this hose was a bit tired.

    • @wawayltd

      Thanks. No, mine wasn't leaking. Is the O-ring not on a compressors side?

    Why did you replace the compressor? What symptoms did you have and how did you troubleshoot it? Nice video

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  10 років тому +4

      It just stopped working, I had no air conditioning in the car. I took it to specialist, he diagnosed that compressor is bad..
      As for symptoms - first, I had a problem year ago. Back then AC didn't want to switch on, when I pressed 'Econ' button, light still stayed on. That is normally a sign of low pressure, system senses it and doesn't let AC to switch on, so I re-gassed it and everything went back to normal. You see, the way it works with Audi - it doesn't just get weaker and weaker.. When gas pressure gets below certain point - computer just switches the AC off. At re-charging station they will be able to tell you, if you have a leak or not.
      This year button worked, but air didn't get any cooler, that specialist connected computer to see what's wrong, but diagnostics didn't show anything. Then he measured voltage at compressor's connector and said that compressor does get a signal, but doesn't react to it, so I need a new one. May be I could try to figure out how to fix my old one.. But it would take time, and I needed my car back on the road asap, I'm a taxi driver - have to work constantly..
      Is there anything wrong with your AC?

    did you not have to replace the drier too? if you disconnect the compressor will it not damage the ac drier?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  10 років тому

      It is not absolutely necessary to replace dryer, but it is recommended. Especially if compressor broke there can be some debris left in the system.
      If it's only compressor clutch that broke - you don't have to de-gas it - just replace clutch
      I didn't do it, because my manuals didn't mention it, and one VW/Audi mechanic, said it is not necessary. But the main reason - I needed my car to be back on the road same day - and I made this video.
      Thank you for your comment - I edited video description.
      P.S. By the way - since replacement my AC works fine - and I do lots of miles every day :)

      thank you for your reply. this is a great video. Fixing Audi is very expensive. I have an old 04 Audi A4 convertible. That the top convertible and AC not working. Its not blowing cold. I went to Pepboys to get my AC flushed and fill up the feon with 1.2 lbs in my system and find out that my compressor is not working. I didnt have time because I have to left ATL(Atlanta) so they didnt check if the clutch or compressor is mess up. I hope its just my clutch. Pepboys wanted to charge me $1100 for labor and $700 for a new compressor. There is no way in hell Im doing that. That is too rich for my blood. :( So I did a lot of research so I can DIY and came across your video and damn thank you so much because my compressor set up is the same as A6. Look like an EZ fix. Can a repair shop save my feon from my system and after I replace my compressor myself and refill it back? Or what should I do in my case?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  10 років тому

      ronny rath Normally repair shops have a machine, that does it all automaticly - degas, clean, put oil, re-gas. I have only rough idea of what it does, sorry.
      I don't think freon on it's own has so much value - the money you pay for this procedure is mainly cost of labour. They have big expensive machine - and you don't ;) It also takes some time, too.
      Here in UK it costs 49 GBP, some places can do for 39. If you have a friend working there, price can drop all the way to nothing :)
      You know, some places don't take any money, if re-charging didn't help, they wouldn't do that if freon would be expensive..

    WHEN REPLACING THE ALTERNATOR IN ALLROAD(A6 2.7T 2003) COULD SOMEONE ACCIDENTALLY SCREW UP THE OIL SENSOR, AS WELL AS THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM, FROM YOUR VIDEO I SEE IT CAN HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE AC.

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  7 років тому

      There is no need to shout Melanie :) Your 2.7T and my 2.0tdi are very different engines, even cars are quite different. In your car AC compressor is on the other side of the crankshaft pulley and shouldn't be affected. Alternator is removed towards the bottom of the car, but I also don't see how oil sensor or suspension should be affected... What happened to the suspension and oil sensor?

    At 3:30 you said a professional have to 'evaporate' the system. Do you evaporate them after replacing the AC Compressor or before? Further, do you have a video how to change the Receiver Drier/Accumulator? Please help!

    • @wawayltd

      AC compressor, valve, and any other AC components have nothing to do with heating, as those are for cooling air. Heating is heating matrix + those valves.

  • @bluiflip

    Can a faulty AC compressor result in being stuck in “Econ” mode?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  4 роки тому

      Probably. However in my experience, if there's no pressure in AC system, then it's stuck in Econ, also can be faulty pressure sensor. It all can be checked with the scanner that can see pressure in AC system.
      Of course there can be other reasons, but I would start from pressure.
      Maybe solution is as simple as re-gas.

    Hi, my A6 c6 doesn't have cold air. I went to the mechanic and they put gas inside because was full empty, after that, still no cold air, the compressor looks dead, can a broken compressor do a gas leak? Thanks

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  3 роки тому

      Yes, bad compressor as a part of AC system can have a leak. Normally mechanics should be able to find leak if it's not only in compressor.

  • @liorcastro

    Hey friends
    Recently the air conditioner in the car stops scattering cold.
    I went to check it out in the garage I was told that the compressor was not turning
    And they determined immediately the compressor was not working . And it needs to be replaced.
    They did not use a scanner.
    But I think it was too hasty for them to determine that.
    They claimed that the compressor in this specific vehicle works regularly with the engine running and if it does not turn then it is screwed.
    Are there any other reasons that could cause the compressor to stop working?
    Before I rush to do something that will cost me a lot of money

    • @liorcastro
      @liorcastro 4 роки тому

      They also did not check if gas was missing.

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  4 роки тому

      I think they should check gas pressure in the system.
      As for compressor - if they brake, easiest thing is to replace them rather than trying to fix.
      Whether your compressor is broken or not - I can't say, it needs to be seen. Quite often you don't need a scanner to see if compressor engaging or not. However in some cars if gas pressure is low ECU will not allow compressor to start.
      Before you start spending money on repairs, if you're not sure - check it with independent mechanic/garage, see what they say.

      I know that clutch pulleys can be replaced, they also sell them on eBay. Cost of new compressor is about 200 pounds, pulley - just over 60. Have a look at this:
      www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.X8E0260805+pulley.TRS0&_nkw=8E0260805+pulley&_sacat=0
      However, I've never tried to replace pulley, so don't know how easy it is. The other thing you need to consider - you need to make sure that it's definitely a pulley clutch that's faulty and compressor is fine.

      No, it not made in China.It's remanufactured compressor with special improvement compared with original Denso compressor.Why did not you adjust oil amount? Compressor is filled with oil regarding OE specifications

      Piotr Gajda I know instruction says to use amount of oil accordingly to specs, but I believe that the way it's sold it's about right. Plus when they re-charge system on that big clever machine it cleans and stabilises gas and oil - at least that what it says on its display. I had to replace compressor on this car and my new Sharan - never had any trouble. Anyway - how would you manually measure and adjust amount of oil in compressor?
