I referred to this tutorial this morning when swapping out drives, but there is one MAJOR factoid left out. That door to open the hard drive enclosure does not open that easily. You must unlock that door from the side of the case that you see the motherboard in. There is a locked/unlocked button that must be pressed to unlocked before the door can open. After I figured this out, then the door opened as described.

Thank you for sharing this info. We have never run in to a T7910 with a locked drive cage door. Your post will be helpful to other viewers that need to unlock the front hard drive cage door. Thank you for your contribution “Bad Booking”.

Yes, you need to push a button on the other side panel to release the lock to remove the front panel. The locking button is big and has the lock icon so it’s quite obvious. Remember, just push it, don’t pull.
That was the easy part. The hard part is to mount the 3.5” drive into the “flexible” plastic caddy. It’s a nightmare. You need to use a thin flathead screw driver to pride open the locking nubs as you push down the drive. Fingers alone won’t do.

Lol too late, I used a flathead to shimmy it open
Also this video didn't describe the hardest part of getting the pins in. Already broke one plastic chassis and on another one the pin fell out

Don't you have to get into the raid bios to mark the drive as 'boot'? There are 3 options, Boot, Alt, and nothing

do you have to open up the back and provide power to the drives from the power supply or does the LSI controller provide power too?

The standard cable harness provides the data connection as well as power.

I would like to clarify a very specific question with you, this high-end computer has a person wanting to sell me and I want to buy it, but the guy has no origin in the equipment, there is no NF and so on... but the machine I need to use exactly for my work would make a difference, these machines have internal tracking on them my friend when I leave discarding or scrap can I buy carefree or am I afraid??

We not sure how to answer this question. Any tracking devices would normally be tied back to the operating system or a possible add on io card.

can you remove and swap these drive whilst the power is on? or do you have to power down to do it?

We've never tried that. We are assuming that you are replacing a failed drive that is part of a raid configuration? Let us know the results if you end up trying it.

@@GreenPCGamerscom well I've got BIG issues booting the system for some reason - I've tried taking drives out and eventually, it did boot, with 2 drives taken out
what I want to do now is just push them back into the slots and get them working, without risking a reboot and the system being down again...
