- Hi, all. I'd like to share with you a few safety tips for opening and closing a SAK, based on my own personal experience. The very same principles could be applied to using any folding knives, with or without a back spring. Although I am not any kind of knife expert, these tips have served me well over the years.
Featured Tools: Victorinox Swisschamp, German Army Knife(made by Victorinox), Victorinox Farmer Alox, Silky Saw PocketBoy

Thank you for watching!
Thank you for this video. What frustrates me, though, is trying to open the OTHER blades on my knife without breaking my thumbnail. Do you have any videos about opening the smaller, harder-to-open blades and tools? Thanks!
Thta happens to me so i just take paper and fold it and put it in the knife and pull
Lol I know this comment is almost 6 years old but I’m still gonna comment. For anyone else reading; if you take the toothpick out and place the hook of the toothpick into the fingernail slot on the tools/blades. You can use the toothpick as an extension to generate enough force to get it open by pulling the blade up with it. Be very careful no matter what.
@@GasGotti you genious man
@@moralles-l7b 😂 thanks pal! I hope I was able to help.
I will also comment on a 1 year comment lol, there is a little crevice at the end of the knife and you can use your nail to pull the knife out.
My problem is that I don’t have enough strength to do what you do around 3:04. if I try that the blade won’t move until I use more force and then it closes so fast that my finger slips down. Yet I had luck and it only slipped away on the non-sharp side but I want to change this.
Some models (like Compact) i would not recommend closing it by let the blade snap closed because the tolerance between the inner spine and the tip of the blade is too small. So by snapping it it would damage the tip.
Hard to open mine
Great advice comic guy information comes in the nick of time.
wish i knew about this video earlier, havent really used mine since i bought it but i already did a little damage on the smaller blade because of snapping it close😢
Great PSA Comis. As a new Victorinox user this video will surely keep ones fingers in one piece.
How is it so stiff tho
i'd recommend wd40 and cleaning, im cleaning a re-oiling mine every month
I use KPL. Knife Pivot Lube. Specially made for folding knives.
To be honest I'm always a bit nervous using these things because of how fast they can snap shut, but better to be nervous and safe than careless and cut I guess
Thank you for watching! :)
Try opening a hook on the Climber model. Yup, no nail notch and no good position to get under it because of the ring. The ring really complicates things. Having a nail notch on the hook is a MUST. I am thinking of putting there one myself with a Dremel. The only time I'm using the plastic toothpick is to get the hook out. There's also one trick to pull the scissors a bit first and then the hook. Much easier that way. Still... Not a good design.
Just received my new compact, it looks like I’m going to have to carry my classic as well, just to open the hook? No wonder the have a nail file on the back of the hook, I think I’m going to need it
Good tip but bro your thumb is bot real i think. It goes backwards man how do you do that
