Somebody, somewhere must have hoarded a 55 gallon drum of Bicentennial Quarters and dumped them into circulation. Lately I’ve gotten $#!+loads in change at our candy machine near Philly. Sometimes I’ll get 8 or 9 each night. They all are some level of uncirculated
1.6 billion produced for circulation.Still tons out there.

I have a bicentennial quarter no mint mark and weighs over 6 grams
Look at those gashes going vertical on the steps of that 1953 nickel that right there tells you the steps are interrupted I’d bet my life in any light in hand or not that that is not what we all look for when we’re looking for FS nickels that’s way more than controversial imo but I appreciate you calling it out brother bc I know I’m not the only one that had to get up next to the tv and say really?? Bc I’ve rolled up and turned in to the bank dozen’s of nickels just like that that I inspected the hell out of and just couldn’t call it full for no rhyme or reason 🤦🏼♂️
I’m with you. Either it clearly cuts the mustard or it should NOT receive the BIG MONEY designation. Buyers depend on the grading companies to provide expert assessments that can be relied upon with confidence. When I go to sell a slabbed “full stepper” I don’t want to suffer through dealers or collectors whipping out their 10x loupes and immediately guffawing and saying “that’s not a full stepper.” I mean at that point you are thinking “WTF” and are madder than a hornet that your investment just went up in smoke. NOT supposed to happen with professionally graded coins - period - full stop. TPG’s need to knock this crap off of giving unearned designations to coins that honestly do not deserve them.
@@marianmoses9604 I couldn’t agree more they tell us to be sure it has five interrupted lines to be full steps and I know just in the last year or so I’ve seen some that had five lines maybe but with a totally obvious gouge into to two or three of them well thanks a lot mr grader bc I’ve rolled up too many to count that were less interrupted lines by far so like ur saying that’s money up in smoke had I known that was FS by some graders opinion and like u a while back I bought a beautiful mercury dime that was sold to me under the banner of FB designation and tried to sell it recently as such even knowing I didn’t consider it FB but I couldn’t even get a full split bands attribute on it so to me if I can’t even recover wat I spent then it’s junk silver at that point , you’ll never convince me under any light or angle that this 53 on here is by definition worthy of FS attribute but someone just drop a nice chunk of hard earned cheddar on it and I would bet couldn’t recoup enough to break even if they tried to sell it right now I would bet if they took it out the slab and sent it to grade it would not get FS so are there some people receiving favored grading and others not ?? That’s my main concern
That 53 nickel was not FS lol I bet it was a graders personal coin that was graded by a friend because you couldn't even see one full line in the steps

I had to pause after the 53s full steps nickel. We need to publish the name of the grader that says this is full steps. What a joke. He reminds me of the cartoon Mr. Magoo.

I’m getting more and more suspicious, and frustrated, about our “Grading” institution’s. I believe, and know from one of my own submissions, that was obtained In it’s original roll and immediately secured and placed away, that “Retouched”, “Polished”, or other reasons for Down grading coins Is Over Used and Often Not a Truthful reason given for grading. I don’t feel Safe in send them A Great Coin only to get a substitute coin in return. Like Insider Trading in Stocks, I don’t believe Coin Graders, or close family members, Should be allowed to be Collectors as well Only to have Awesome Collections.
You need to relax, friend. If you are that paranoid then the solution is really quite simple: Just keep your coins RAW and do not submit them to TPG’s if their security measures are not satisfactory or if their grading standards are suspect to you.
No one is FORCED to submit coins to ANY grader. I do not often agree with the decisions of graders either, but I also am not an expert grader. Duh. That’s why I submitted my coins to be professionally graded in the first place.
Disappointment is actually the norm. 99% of collectors over-grade their own coins. It’s human nature….and it’s also why the grading services exist if you think about it a bit. Have fun with the hobby and don’t get too twisted up over this stuff.

Shaun, you’re very knowledgeable of the Coin World. Are Graders Allowed to be Collectors as well? What type of security measures are there fora coin I send in for grading and the coin I receive back?
Quite substantial security measures, actually, and described in great detail on the websites of the grading companies. CCTV cameras, tagging and logging systems, chain of custody, etc. The grading companies comprehended from the beginning that this would be a major concern and put systems in place to prevent such problems.
Major auction houses and multimillion dollar dealers trust their inventories to be graded by them precisely because their security measures are very, very extensive. If the employees were to start switching out coins it would only take ONE scandal to ruin the reputation of the grading service and it would very quickly put them out of business. Reputations are EVERYTHING in the small, insular world of the numismatic hobby and the coin dealing businesses that support it. Think about it. I understand the paranoia, but so do the grading companies. Cheers!

Me neither. I wish I had a dollar for every coin I’ve seen that did not truly deserve a designation of FS, or FBL, or FSB. Most of the times the TPG’s are tough and get this right but when they flub it, BOY do they flub it! 😯
