You have my answer! I'm a professional artist who was considering pouring concrete for a project, but that would lead to challenges! Which are tricky to solve. I know there are similar videos to yours, but the white look is what got me. I definitely will use DIY concrete.
Great job Melissa! I really enjoy your narrative of your work. Appreciate the honesty of your mistakes and adding the nuances of the products you are working with. I'm sure it helps the viewers who will tackle the same projects. Shame on the viewers who give the thumbs down. Enjoy your Holidays!
i recommend decora products to do this same thing with a lot fewer steps. no pink junk. no mixing. i'm not a representative of theirs, just a really happy customer.
But they still sell something the same as the link junk you talking about prior to the product I saw it in the instructions. Do you have any cracking on your work didn’t you use it? Thanks
Looks great. Very nicely done. Did you apply their waterproofing membrane directly to the drywall and mud without first priming or sealing your walls to provide a dust free surface?
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlogthank you for confirming. I opted for the same waterproofing membrane (instead of using Redguard) because of your video. It’s more expensive but I didn’t want to chance it for proper adhesion since I will be applying Microtek on my bathroom ceiling as well. BTW your video is the best one I’ve seen for this application. It’s realistic and you made the application look within reach for DIYers so well done. Now just waiting for my order to show up to get started!
Hello!! Loved the video and how it turned out. I have a question, I see they offer on the website different colors/finish. The options I see are: Gray on Gray - Gray Finish Coat on top of Gray Base Coat White on White - White Finish Coat on top of White Base Coat White on Gray - White Finish Coat on top of Gray Base Coat Which one did you use?
I'm doing this NOW in my new home. Wanna get the charcoal color additive. What exactly is the mesh tape for??? I didnt quite understand. Wanna do this right! Love seeing women do it. I've done EVERYTHING in my new home. So rewarding
I found your video a few years back and am now getting ready to duplicate the process on my project. However, the company website in your description shows as not being found. Do you happen to know if they are still in business?
Yes, so this product was made to be applied to sheetrock and it's not nearly as heavy as real concrete would be so the concrete backer board wasn't necessary. It also saved on cost to hang regular sheetrock than concrete backer board. If I planned to tile it in the future or put on bricks or stone then I would need the heavier duty stuff.
This is awesome. Been looking to do this. Do you think I can apply the pink substance directly on a concrete wall and then use the kit or is it better to put Sheetrock on the concrete fireplace and then apply the mixtures? And did you use wonderboard or Sheetrock?
Hi Melissa, it’s Lee and Olivia again! We’re wondering if you had plans for some projects for a daddy / daughter sort of thing? Or stuff kids can get into? We watch your stuff together and just love you, (we built a playhouse together) It might not be your thing but we wondered if it was something you might do in the future? Loved the outtakes from your last upload by the way!!
I've done a few craft videos including my kids, but never the power tool stuff. My son seems to be interested in learning, so you might've seen clips of me allowing him to drill kreg jig holes or shoot my brad nailer in my tutorials. To be honest, I don't plan to include the kids more than that for a myriad of reasons, but I will continue to look for interesting outtakes I can include in my future videos while editing. I think it's great to see the back story and real life behind a project sometimes.
This looks amazing and you did a wonderful job! Can I ask for the link to the product kit you used? Also, can this be done OUTSIDE? I'm wanting to do this to completely build from scratch a stucco wall Gas Fireplace. Thank you.
Hi Melissa!!! I am going to do this! How SMOOTH was your skim coat prior to Red guarding? Was yours perfectly smooth, or does the concrete have enough 'play' and consistency to smooth throughout the layering process? I hope this makes sense... ;-)) Thank you!!!
How is the fireplace holding up? I am debating doing this as well. I wont be able to add a water line so I wonder how annoying refilling it constantly is?
Hey David! Fireplace still looks like new (it's only been 7 months though) and I would say the refilling isn't a nuisance for us unless the kids have been using the fireplace without our permission. ;) It runs for about 4-5 hours with the tanks full so oftentimes we enjoy it 2 or 3 times while playing games or visiting and then fill it.
3 weeks to do the whole fireplace, but I don't work full days. I juggle my family, cooking, laundry, etc every day so take that into consideration. The concrete coating took about three days.
There's definitely "texture" when you are touching it, but it doesn't feel like a concrete driveway. It feels more like artisan concrete - stuff that hasn't been worn away.
Their charcoal color is pretty dark. But you may be able to use other color lines with microtek. She's using surecrete microtek. Their website has the color charts
After watching your video, we ordered the product. Its been a few weeks and we still haven't received the order, but what's really concerning is that they won't reply to emails or answer calls. Maybe you shouldn't recommend this company or their products. Im giving them the benefit of the doubt but I starting to think we got scammed.
Oh no!! I’m so sorry to hear this. Let me get connected to the owner to try to help you. I know they recently onboarded a new fulfillment agency and perhaps there are some hiccups with that.
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog thank you for your willingness to help. No one has responded to any of my emails or answered calls. I really enjoy your videos and it's the first time we purchase any product recommended, so it's a little disappointing. I understand the video was posted 2 years ago and there are a million things that could've gone wrong, but I believe its misleading and other people, like us, could fall for their scam which, in-turn, affects your credibility. I dont know the legality of "sponsored videos" but if they are scamming people based off of your recommendation (like we did), its time to take this one down.
They’re definitely not scamming people. I’ve had almost a thousand people recreate my projects using Diyconcrete.com’s products. I’m very sorry you’ve experienced poor customer service. Please email the owner directly at this address: Cbecker@fenixspc.com

Hi Melissa,
I absolutely love how this came out,
Thanks for sharing.
Looks really good! You made the process look easy to do as well. Thanks for the good tips.
Enjoyed this series. Excellent results!
That turned out really nice.
Looks fantastic!
A great look and the fire makes it perfect. Have a great Christmas and hopefully an even better New Year
Love your videos, you should consider uploading in 1080p!

So glad I could help!
Looks great. Very nicely done. Did you apply their waterproofing membrane directly to the drywall and mud without first priming or sealing your walls to provide a dust free surface?
Correct, the instructions said there was no need to prime. I did wipe down the wall with a damp rag first

So cool, this would work for a kitchen backsplash right?
Très joli travail bravo à bientôt salut Jeannot 😉🛠

It's for the drywall seams. You can use paper tape and extra mud instead if you prefer. Look up drywall tape to get a better idea.

that product is probably specific to drywall, stucco would work for block though.

It was totally smooth. The concrete isn't very thick so you should try to get your sheetrock smooth first
Can you use this product for indoor stairs ?

What the best way to fill in the small gap between the wall and backboard?
How long ago did you do it? Has it cracked or deteriorated?
It still looks absolutely perfect, almost 3 years later
Can this be done over a painted wall? would you still need to use the pink coat?
Yes and yes! :) The flex-shield layer prevent cracking and improves adhesion of the concrete layers.
Can you do this on plywood?
How many days did it take you to finish the project?
3 weeks to do the whole fireplace, but I don't work full days. I juggle my family, cooking, laundry, etc every day so take that into consideration. The concrete coating took about three days.
Hi! I really wanna try this but I was wondering about the feel of the concrete. Does it feel like concrete to the touch?
There's definitely "texture" when you are touching it, but it doesn't feel like a concrete driveway. It feels more like artisan concrete - stuff that hasn't been worn away.
Did DIY concrete go out of business? If so, do you have any other suggestions for companies that provide similar product?
Can you write down what kind of material was smeared on the wall?
your DIY fire place is finallly done - you did a great job Melissa - I'm looking forward to more of your DIY works Enjoy the Holidays SAFEly
Who would give this a thumbs down?
Can this be used over a fireplace tile?
There is more steps and materials. Look up microcement over tile
Hi are you no longer on TikTok?? Would love to see this from the beginning...you had it on TikTok but I can’t find you 😭
I've never been on TikTok, but you can watch this whole fireplace video on my UA-cam channel
Melissa is fun to watch and I actually learn stuff sometimes, but concrete walls make me think of industrial spaces and prisons.
Ohh I love concrete, it's very modern. I hope I change your mind!
@@WelcometotheWoodsBlog Your determination is definitely part of your charm, but I sort of doubt it. Hahaha I will continue to watch regardless. :)
What model insert is that?
if use paint roller it will do more faster
link for the product don't work
Do they have black?
Their charcoal color is pretty dark. But you may be able to use other color lines with microtek. She's using surecrete microtek. Their website has the color charts
Bag of mortor do the same thing
I was thinking that too
Yes, all you need is the powder pigment to broadcast and spread while you trowel. This is a very subtle effect, and you can surely do a deeper one.
Not really. Mortar has course sand. Microtek has very fine aggregate in it.
Webcrete would be better
where did diyconcrete go
I am a wood carpenter, wood carving and mobile carpenter, making videos and her house I have to go to see
