At the sudden news of Paul's passing this morning, this 1977 performance becomes an all the more poignant remembrance. Paul credited his dad with the line in the song, "You know that you're over the hill / When your mind makes a promise your body can't fill." He enjoyed a sense of humor. I played on sessions with Paul and with Kenny for Warner's and W/E/A in the '70s, and the funk just dripped from their bones. Sail on, my friend.
Absolutely, - Paul Barrere (guitar, vocals), Sam Clayton (percussion), Bill Payne (piano and organ) O'Grady (bass), Richie Hayward (drums), Lowell (slide guitar and vocals) and the whole damn bad are way beyond deserving. In the 1970's we all saw them and just went - WOW, what planet did they come here from!! Bravo!
after lowell died paul took the reins and along with fred tackett really kept the band going. both are great players as well. RIP richie. ultimate rhythmic drummer.
Agree % . Then years down the road when Paul and the boys needed a jump start a guy named Craig Fuller joined the band . Let It Roll was a kick ass album.
Lawdy! Heard this at just 17 years of age, saw them several times, and “Time Does Love A Hero”this song sure hits different at 64😊but is a favorite from this album…. “Off our rockers, actin' crazy With the right medication we won't be lazy Doin' the old folks boogie Down on the farm Wheelchairs, they was locked arm in arm Paired off pacemakers with matchin' alarms Gives us jus' one more chance To spin one more yarn And you know that you're over the hill When your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill Doin' the old folks boogie And boogie we will 'Cause to us the thought's as good as a thrill Back at the home, No time is your own, Facillities there, they're all out on loan The bank forclose, and your bankruptcy shows And your credit creeps to an all-time low So you know, that you're over the hill When your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill Try and get a rise from an atrophied muscle, And the nerves in your thigh just quivers and fizzles So you know, that you're over the hill When your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill” Cherish that youth! Adulting isn’t for pussies~ 😉
God they were so good live. . . . . Just mind blowingly tight. . . and loose all at the same time. . .Payne is such a great rock pianist. . . such percussive attack but still great melody. . . .
That's the one I've been looking for for several years. Yea Little Feat, playing Old Folks Boogie, Where Paul's voice is so strong and spot on plus the band
I had the pleasure of sitting in on Richie's band at rehersal studio in North Hollywood 1980;s), great pEEps. Saw Feat with Lowell after I got out of service in 73, never forget those days.
This song so kicks ass that it's not even funny. I personally sing this song, and it's one of the most fun songs to sing. Man, these guys do it up well. Music like this just isn't heard anymore.

What a fantastic band. When they finally came out to Australia the line up was obviously different, but we loved them, big time. They musically fit this country really well.
Hell, I found them when I was 18. Seen them 2 times and wnd when I win the lottery.... going to do a fund raising for a veterans organization if they would. LOVE THEM. TOWER OF POWER ALSO! My 26 year old likes them too. We have to teach them!
this band could stand up to any in the world. They all sang like motherfuckers and their playing and songwriting is second to none. Im a musician and this is some of the hardest shit to play out there (but the most fun too)
i look away for a few moments & and then realize "hey !! ..... those licks are being played w/ a slide ??!! .... " i'm no stranger to Lowell's playing but .... that was phenomenal !
@doylestownstew Played this tune recently in local nursing home, (seriously) AND they loved it ,ate it up in fact Don't sweat it with the Seniors. Believe me, when I say, "only worry about the frustrated 55-65 olds".
Best ever Midnight Special, they hosted. I recorded the audio on my 8 track... thanks so much for posting this. Lowell George heck of a slide player, RIP
Phish covered "Waiting for Columbus" in Atlantic City for their Halloween "costume" set. Damn good set of music played by Phish that turned a lot of younger people onto the greatness of Little Feat. Check it out if you can. You won't be disappointed.
What a classic Reminds me of good times like that 66 GTO a six pack for 1.25 the 4finger count and heavy fuel for 32 cents a gallon. The country had hope then You sensed it cause it was US in the USA then. China was mysterious not manufacturer
Thanks for clearing that up ... I was under the impression they were married .... guess I learned something new here today - thanks for THE notice !!!!
Thought for a moment that this might be a cover on "Old Folks Boogie" by Slim Green and the Cats from Fresno--not the same song at all but still a "get up and boogie" number.
I know that you meant to write GRADNEY, as the bass player's name, but people who aren't familiar with the band will be sent on a wild goose chase, if they are looking for the name of the bass player!!
I'm 71 and have enjoyed Little Feat for nearly 50 years!! I hope I can get someone to take my dvd to play Old Folks Boogie at my funeral!!
good choice.
I'm only 67 but It I want this played at my paupers funeral!
When I was 30 I just laughed at the tune and the lyrics. Now at 71 myself, I get it!
@@DrJohn493Gawd bless you Dr John

It's catchy. I am 60 and yeah
Me too👍memories
Ha ha ha me too! Just turned 65! 😂
I first heard them in 11th grade. Gonna be 63 in May. they still sound great!
I just realized I'm writing this in a cardiac rehab in NJ.
I’m 67 and still boogie!
One of the most talented lineups in history, still sounds good a half century later.

Thank you for clarifying the time frame. I was thrown back a bit. And congratulations.
I dreamt about Paul the other night. Always a caring sharing person!
Now that I'm in my 70s boy does this ring true !!!
As I age, this song means more to me! This incarnation of Little Feat SHOULD be in the R&R Hall of Fame. One of the best bands EVER!.
Loved it as a teen, living it now
Drove truck 21yrs. Took 17 to fulfill tuscon-tuccomceri & tehachappi -tonnopa. And i will always be in a whole lotta trouble...

Bass player is Kenny Gradney but I hear ya. R.I.P. Paul.
Wish Lowell could. have joined us in old age...hopefully we will hear him again when we pass thru The Gates
Its amazing that when you witness history, you are totally oblivious to the fact until years later.
can I quote you? that's a good one
Little Feat is one of best acts ever, period. Lowell George was a freakin' genius. Waiting for Columbus is the best live album ever released, period

“Off our rockers, actin' crazy
With the right medication we won't be lazy
Doin' the old folks boogie
Down on the farm
Wheelchairs, they was locked arm in arm

Known by other musicians in their time as the BEST live band. Thanks to UA-cam you can see why. Just great stuff!
This song makes you want to get some friends together, order a pizza, roll a fat 1 & party/dance the night away, & see what (who) you wake up with.

Hello I love music and I'm old -
Feats was mebbe the tightest show/stage band i ever heard...
If you want to see a band as tight as Little Feat, go see The Mavericks. Their Shows are totally smokin
WE LOVE YOU, PAUL. BE WELL.
love the song, makes me sentimental
My folks were into these cats. I had no idea! Killer tone....

They also had a whole hour on Austin City Limits in 1994. I wish I could get a copy of that!
We be laughing now ha ha little did we know ✌🎏🤗
Funky as hell.

@ajg23p I believe it's Ritchie Hayward, who passed way a week ago or so. Great drummer.
Lowell George's guitar slide was a Craftsman 13/16 deep well socket😎😁

Thought for a moment that this might be a cover on "Old Folks Boogie" by Slim Green and the Cats from Fresno--not the same song at all but still a "get up and boogie" number.
Bill Paine is so good I just wanna slap him. LOL
He’s fantastic. Melody and percussion just fly from his fingers.
I'm 77, when my dad was my age, he'd been dead 45 YEARS!
Cause people think they's ugly (even though we know they's beautiful).
Back when guys could actually play their instruments
Why aren't these guys in the RNR hall of fame yet!?
@grafikfeat Can that be so? No kidding, these guys were one of the 2 or 3 greatest rock bands America ever produced if not THE best...
So damn gud
I know that you meant to write GRADNEY, as the bass player's name, but people who aren't familiar with the band will be sent on a wild goose chase, if they are looking for the name of the bass player!!
@infinitecatfish Kenny Gradney. He replaced original bass guitar player Roy Estrada.
Mine too.
I appreciate the Guys carrying on for Lowell but JUST AINT the Same.
Stop being so pedantic ;0 LOVE this band forever xxxx
