Thanks! Good questions. The effect can last quite long, but it depends on the material. I think it lasts specifically long on paper and stones. On aluminium foil, I think the effect can come off if it is touched a lot. But all the stones I made in the video still look shiny after 1 year! On some materials, like craft foam, it rubs off very quickly. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to protect the effect. Anything you put on top will just make the effect disappear.
I just tried it out and yes! This is really cool! I had a smooth, dark rock that I found somewhere and tadah, it is very pretty now. I will collect many more! I accidentally bought two clear nailpolishes that I hardly ever use (except for pantyhoses and broken/split nails) so I have plenty to make stuff with!
👁️👁️🤯 You just blew my mind. I don’t know what to say, you are the Einstein of the fake crystal making world. I’m gonna try this on a boring resin crystal I made. THANK YOU!
Beautiful. Can't wait to try this. I had just searched if you could use nail polish on aluminum foil. You answered my question. I never considered clear polish though. Can't wait to try this.
You are amazing!!! Your videos are so funny, creative, brilliant and I just can't get enough of them. I'm subscrived and had clicked the bell. Thank you for sharing!!! from Italy/Spain with great esteem🧡💐👏🇪🇸🇮🇹
Thanks for a great idea! I'm getting some regular clear polish tomorrow to try it out! I wonder if top or base coat clear polish will work, too!? Might just try it, just to know :)
Thanks for the fun video. I wonder if this would work with irridescent nail polish since it is already "rainbow-y". If it works on light colored rocks, I'd be so happy :)
You're welcome! That's a good question, I wonder as well if that would work? It can work on light colored rocks, but it might look more pearlescent and not as vibrant. You can paint the rocks with acrylic paint, though :)
Hi 👋 I'm a new subscriber 👍 I was thinking maybe you could use UV resin to seal the rainbow colours on the rock or tin foil, it might look even better with a glossy / shiny finish 👍 looking forward to seeing more videos 😊
Hey ☺️ Yay, welcome! I like your thinking! Unfortunately, I believe I can't coat the nail polish with anything because it will destroy the rainbow effect. Someone tried dropping UV resin in water, but apparently it didn't spread out like the nail polish. Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤️
Thank you! I didn't notice a certain drying time, the drop basically instantly turned into a film and stayed like that. I think I would need more experiments in order to understand it better.
I wonder if it will work with the nail polish that needs to be UV-light cured🤔 It will either not work at all or make a coating that is more durable! Gonna try this today, thank you for the amazing tip❤️
@MayLina oh no 😆 that's a shame. Actually that happened to me too when I used too much nail polish.. maybe it would be worth trying the tiniest amount so it's not too heavy? Just in case you wanna try again 😉
@@Randomona that makes sense, but also my uv nail polish is so thick it was impossible to get smaller amount to for a drop! Maybe if it was thinner it would work?
@@thecoolestlemon okay, I thought so! Your English is good :) The effect doesn't really stack, unfortunately. The effect looks best when it looks vibrant on the water and when you dip it in a nice part of the rainbow.
It's worth a try, but the rainbow colors probably won't stand out a lot. They stand out the most on dark rocks. So if you have dark aquarium rocks, that might be better! Especially if the rocks have texture.
HELLO...I'M FROM ATHENS, GREECE....VERY NICE VIDEO...WHAT MATERIAL DID YOU THROW INTO THE WATER? ...IS IT NAIL POLISH? DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO RECOMMEND?
I wonder what's the difference between your method and just putting the nail polish straight onto the rocks 🤔🤔🤔 Anyway, this is amazingly cool and creative!
If the glass is smooth, the effect may not be very strong.. it would probably come out more in dark bottles. I'm not sure all in all how well it would work, but it's worth a try!
I drop clear nail polish in water and nothing happened, no oil spill effect was obtained😢😢😢. Why?? Edit: No wait, I wasn't using a big container to do this, it working fine, yay🎉🎉
Okay, interesting.. Are the nail polishes possibly older ones? Some people say that newer ones work better It could also be the temperature of the water - apparently, it shouldn't be too cold It could also have been too much nail polish I can only suggest trying a different nail polish, it should work with a cheap and basic one
I see.. the container should not make a difference I believe, but it is possible that you were unlucky with the nail polishes. Gel nail polish and quick drying ones may be different in some way.
Unfortunately, I don't think the rainbow effect happens with opaque colors. If it's a glitter nail polish that has clear nail polish as a base, maybe it could work. I have not tried it though!
Where are you that you cant find rocks? Well, perhaps if you live in the middle of the ocean, or you live on a very large glacier, or maybe in the Sahara or something...
really Amazing 1. How long does the effect last? 2. Does touching it damage the texture? And can it be protected over time? Thanks.
Thanks!

very inspiring and innovative - is there a drying time for the nail polish drop on the water surface?

incredible this !i! but what do you use as 'clean nailpolish' is it a 'transparent nailpolish, or a nailpolish thinner ? which brand is the best ?
Thank you! I used transparent nail polish. Any brand should work!

Brilliant idea. Can you add multiple drops to get a stronger iridescent look?
Thank you! Hmm, I believe it won't make the effect better because the nail polish needs space to spread out.
@Randomona oh well... maybe I'll find another way :)
The effect can stack?
Also great video. 👍
Thank you! :)
Could you explain what you mean by "stack"?
@@Randomona what I mean is like the effect gets better or more intense if repeat enough times.
(Sorry for bad english)
@@thecoolestlemon okay, I thought so! Your English is good :)
The effect doesn't really stack, unfortunately.
The effect looks best when it looks vibrant on the water and when you dip it in a nice part of the rainbow.
@@Randomona thank you for our help.
Do you deal it with clear polish when finished and dried???
I tried it, but unfortunately it doesn't work. It cancels out the iridescent effect.

Yay, thanks 😄

Thanks :D
Nice! Any alternative for clear nail polish? Not able to find it anywhere....,, 😂
Oh no 😅😆 sorry, I don't know of any alternatives at the moment!
Ok ty
nnnnniiiiiiiiccccceeee this helps iv bn working on how to do this effect an this is great thanks for sharing
I'm glad it helped! :)
So the object has to be dark and texturized right?
Yes exactly, in my experience!
@@Randomona thank you
Omg Yayy!! I can just use my coal that I found at the beach in japan!!!
Oh that sounds cool! I hope it works 🤞☺️
What if you use 2 layers
Unfortunately I think the second layer will destroy the first layer :(
Does it work on clear acrylic stones the one we use as aquarium decor rocks.
It's worth a try, but the rainbow colors probably won't stand out a lot. They stand out the most on dark rocks. So if you have dark aquarium rocks, that might be better! Especially if the rocks have texture.

I haven't! I imagine the texture of the coal would be nice for this project.
I wonder what's the difference between your method and just putting the nail polish straight onto the rocks 🤔🤔🤔 Anyway, this is amazingly cool and creative!
Thank you! :)
The nail polish has to be super thin for the rainbow effect to happen. That's why the water is necessary 🙂
@@Randomona ah, so it's a regular clear polish, not the iridescent one 😅
Sorry, I must've missed that!
@@Wolnir_w exactly! No worries :)
❤
Do you know what is a subsiture to nail polish?
Unfortunately no 😟
One queastion, will the inside be shiny or no?
Just the outside 🙂
i wonder if this would work on resin gems :)
Possibly! If it doesn't work on a smooth gem, it should at least work on something textured :)
Is this how they make iridescent shower curtains?
Does it work on recycled glass botões?
If the glass is smooth, the effect may not be very strong.. it would probably come out more in dark bottles. I'm not sure all in all how well it would work, but it's worth a try!
Holy shit how have I not heard of this?
Haha ^^ that's what I asked myself too

Which clear polishes? Mine didn’t do that….they clumped especially the ones that said gel like.
Okay, interesting.. Are the nail polishes possibly older ones? Some people say that newer ones work better
It could also be the temperature of the water - apparently, it shouldn't be too cold

Can we make it from an ordinary colour nailpaint
Unfortunately I don't think the effect happens with normal colors, only clear nail polish 😬
does it work with other nail polish?
Unfortunately, I don't think the rainbow effect happens with opaque colors. If it's a glitter nail polish that has clear nail polish as a base, maybe it could work. I have not tried it though!
@@Randomona oh ty!
The black acrylic paint on the foil did not dry for 1 week! I am not exaggerating!
Oh no, really? Hm, did you maybe add water to the paint? Otherwise I don't know why it took so long :/
