    I love how most foreigners are shy and embarrassed by their bad english but Kawasaki just would speak his elementary english with the upmost confidence.

      it makes sense, hard to learn when you sit down at a book and "force" yourself to. if you're just out having fun with the team, you just learn to go with the flow and things happen naturally.

    i've been binging his interview and i must admit he sounded very manly in his own language .he sounded pretty charming when he speak in english .and he's a likeble guy

      @@koraegi its really just the overall tone of japanese if you speak the language correctly, as a japanese, my japanese speaking voice is naturally lower, but i have to increase my pitch when speaking english to pronounce the words properly especially since the two languages' pronunciations are very different

      I bet at least one foreigner in the NPB has done that. Wonder if the Japanese have their own equivalent of Kawasaki, some wacky player from USA or the Caribbean who went over to Japan with no translator and just fucked around and gave everyone a laugh

      It’s admirable how he just tries to speak English in public even though he doesn’t know much. You rarely see that especially with famous people who are supposed to act like they’re above the normal person

      I live in Korea and know so many foreigners that work here, marry Korean women, have half Korean babies and know almost 0 Korean. It is so disrespectful imo.

      The funniest part at the beginning wasn’t translated so allow me. After he said he didn’t understand why he needed a translator as he was a man...he also said, “ I don’t need to go pee side-by-side with another man.” He didn’t say it in the way he discriminated against homosexuals, though. 😂

      00:10 からですね。「意味分からない、そう言うの、男で、連れ添って、オカマ、、、(と言いかけてやめる) 連れションとか大嫌い、近くにいるの」
      つまりは男のくせに四六時中一緒に要るなんて女々しい、気持ち悪いって感じに伝わってきます。
      連れションmeans going to the bathroom together like many Japanese schoolgirls do during their recess because they don’t want to go by themselves but this is the word we normally use for men. It means more like peeing side-by-side. Anyway, he is trying to say he can’t understand why he has to hang out with another man all the time like those other players who are with their interpreters all the time. I can tell he’s expressing his awkwardness here by bringing the example. 😂😂😂😂 He must felt it wouldn’t be a manly thing to do. Funny how he regretted it so quickly though...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    this is exactly what happened to me when i moved from australia to germany. starting with no idea at all and just thinking you maybe understand what they are saying, to eventually being accepted by the 'locals' and learning way more of the language than you ever would in a book.

    When I was learning Spanish, I definitely was able to speak it and understand it better when drunk. I don’t know why, but it came way easier at a bar than it did in other settings

    チームミーティングとか報道陣の前とかはさすがに通訳いた方がいいかもしれないけど、その他の場所は通訳いない方がまじでいいと思うわ。サッカー選手とかバスケ選手はコミュニケーション不可欠だから、通訳がいずれ必要なくなる。野球選手はコミュニケーション必要なさそうに見えるけど、なんやかんや重要だと思う

      That's what they do, it's not an "anime thing" it's what japanese people do. As far as I know, they do it to add to the conversation. I guess it's to greet the speaker that they're actually listening to what they are saying.
