  • Ever wonder how to get your Premiere Pro edits into Davinci Resolve to utilize the powerful grading tools in there, and then make it back to finish the video? Than this video is just for you. We will cover the Premiere to Davinci Resolve round trip workflow utilizing XML data to send our cuts to Davinci to color grade, but don't worry, we will bring the new graded footage back!
    If you are like me, you prefer the NLE of Premiere Pro over Davinci so this is a workflow I stick to to make my life easier. This is an excellent Premiere Pro tutorial for beginners in 2020!

    5:23 - What if you use the standalone transform effect on an adjustment layer so you can edit in premiere looking at the right image size, but you export the xml without the effect?

      This is actually how I work. Why I didn’t include that tip is beyond me. I recorded this one late 2020. In an updated version I will definitely add that in. Thank you!

      It is likely in your color space. Need to ensure it is uniformed across the line. My best advice is explore ACES workflows. I will also add as I have to previous comments, this tutorial is somewhat out of date by this point with Davinci 18 workflows.

    Hey Bryan,
    I am having super choppy playback when i bring the xml from da vinci and playing it in premiere
    is this normal man? any tips

    • @BryanHoltFX
      @BryanHoltFX  2 роки тому +1

      Hey LT. It could have something to do with your specs. I wouldn't say its NORMAL but you can expect playback to be choppy depending on a number of factors. I have actually begun to move away from this workflow. When I have time I would love to share it with everyone here on the channel.

      @@BryanHoltFX gotcha!
      I have a i9 1090k and rtx 2070, 32 gb so i think im good
      Im just noticing the file sizes are huge when exporting from da vinci to premiere
      Like it took 25 minutes to render 10 slow motion color graded clips from da vinci,
      Came out to like 18gb
      And in premiere, just super choppy
      So confused

    • @BryanHoltFX
      @BryanHoltFX  2 роки тому +1

      @@TimandLauren Yeah specs are fine. The file sizes are the worry. Not sure what codec you are exporting in. The Codec in this video I am not married to you can go h.264 if needed (and that will playback much smoother)

    • @TimandLauren
      @TimandLauren 2 роки тому +1

      @@BryanHoltFX agreed. Ive been just importing final cut xml from premiere
      Than da vinci i export using the premiere pro preset, quicktime, uncompressed 10 bit
      You think h264 will lose image quality at all?
      Thanks bryan

    • @BryanHoltFX
      @BryanHoltFX  2 роки тому +1

      @@TimandLauren Oh it totally will. But if you aren't doing anything else to your footage and unless you are delivering in a format with less compression it should be just fine in this case.

    • @BryanHoltFX

      Could be a number of reasons. But Make sure on the XML export you have video enabled, also might have an issue with the codex used.

      @@derekterceros9068 No worries. Sorry Codec. Was replying on the phone :). Without seeing this issue it could be a number of things. Great video. Only issue im seeing is that I have large duplicate files from round-tripping when resolve exports all the media again. I guess that's just part of the process but it creates another 700gb or so in some of my projects which just is too much extra space

    • @BryanHoltFX
      @BryanHoltFX  2 роки тому +1

      Yep I just finished editing a massive project and used this method and it is super annoying. But I usually catalog.

      @@jon_almas So I catalog and consolidate my project files at the end of a project and store them in a random cold storage. I never delete heh. The only reason I don't switch to resolve is how clunky the package is as an NLE.

    Hey Bryan!
    I finally figured out what was going on man with the choppy playback, but wondering if you knew why this is?
    I was exporting in 3840 x 2160 (4k) from da vinci as a premiere xml, because i recorded in 6k
    brought the timeline to premiere, and this is where the choppy playback is happening
    But if i export in 1920 x 1080 from da vinci to premiere, playback is smooth
    is exporting from da vinci in premiere xml 4k not good for roundtrip workflow?

    • @BryanHoltFX
      @BryanHoltFX  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, so 4k is exactly double 1080HD or FHD workflow. So double the information, etc. That would definitely be it. Glad you are solving your issues!
