He pronounces them more clearly and blasts his voice even more than normal, with a big smile and conviction. And that last note? Oh my word.

With respect, Mr. Pavarotti was an Italian citizen and as such cannot receive any kind of an official knighthood. He could have been recognized in a purely honorary way, but would never be able to use the title "Sir." He did however receive 3 orders of the Grand Cross of Merit from the Italian Government as well he should have! It's always a revelation and an awe inspiring event to hear him sing even in a recording. Thanks for the comment!

Many years ago, when I was just a kid, my Dad and I were watching Pavarotti on a rare television broadcast of Italian art songs. He was in absolute prime of his art at the time of the broadcast. His performance was deeply moving.
My Dad was sitting behind me in a large chair. I recall hearing him sob openly. I had never heard my Dad do this before or after, ever again. There was SOMETHING in that voice that touched him so deeply that it could never be repeated. We never spoke of it.
THIS is the POWER OF PAVAROTTI that could touch a place that was otherwise inaccessible. Could you call it magic? A miracle?

There is a youtube posting of Pavarotti singing "Nessun Dorma" in a live performance in Italy, many years later. As amazing as he was, there are things he could do in this performance, due to the greater elasticity of his vocal chords, where I heard the difference early on.
I have heard this called the greatest song ever written (and that it was Puccini's last, before he died on an operating table). Maybe so. In any event, it bears contemplation, study, and many, many replays.

Exactly, at the moment the instrument is at its most perfect, the blessing of God on the gift transcend's the perfection into glorious exaltation of The Giver of the gift and lifts it up into the heavenlies while it also anoints and blesses the hearer. This has happened to many gifted people one such story is told by Sir Laurence Olivier when his performance so transcended his gift people asked him backstage how he did it and he was dumbfounded because he didn't know and attributed it to God because that Pinnacle could never be reached again.

At his prime here, this might be the best of his Nessun Dorma’s. The two sustains at the end are magnificent of the first happier take may be the longest notes of this aria ever recorded!

Here Pavarotti held the final notes for 17 seconds. When he sang with the 3 tenors, he held the same note for 10 seconds. And in one more posting on UA-cam, he held the not for 11 seconds. Throughout this performance, he showed his raw power the way a young stallion struts his stuff. Thank goodness, this demonstration is captured on film and is here forever to those of us who love to thrill in that power and drink in the emotion conveyed. Thank you all.

    Nobody shall sleep!...
    Nobody shall sleep!
    Even you, oh Princess,
    in your cold room,
    watch the stars,
that tremble with love and with hope.
But my secret is hidden within me,
my name no one shall know...
    No!...No!...
On your mouth, I will tell it when the light shines.
And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!...
(No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.)
    Vanish, o night!
    Set, stars! Set, stars!
At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!

But Pavarotti is one of the greatest tenors to ever walk the earth, and that will probably never change no matter how much time passes. Comparing him to Pavarotti really isn't something that is appropriate to say to the millions of people who were sucked into his amazing performance of Nessun dorma. Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma! No sleep! No sleep!
Tu pure, o, Principessa, Even you, oh Princess,
nella tua fredda stanza, in your cold room,
guardi le stelle look at the stars,
che tremano d'amore e di speranza. that tremble with love and of hope.
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me, But my secret is closed in me,
il nome mio nessun saprà! my name no one shall know...
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò No!...No!...On your mouth, I will tell it
quando la luce splenderà! when the light will shine.
E il mio bacio scioglierà il silenzio And my kiss will dissolve the silence
che ti fa mia! that makes you mine!
Dilegua, o notte! Vanish, o night!
    Tramontate, stelle! Set, stars!
    Tramontate, stelle! Set, stars!
All'alba, vincerò! At dawn, I shall win!
vincerò! vincerò! I shall win! I shall win!

Únicamente magnífico, Pavarotti en su mejor interpretación de Nessun Dorma.
Como le gustaba a mí papá, siempre lo tengo presente gracias a la música clásica.

This is angelic. The best performance on Nessun Dorma. Greatest maestro of all times. Luciano Pavarotti.

Yes, indeed, this is the best interpretation of the Aria "Nessun dorma" in all time since: 1-I have listened to many tenors and none had the power and voice projection of Luciano Pavarotti, 2-No other tenor could sustain the notes in the "Vincero" for 02 consecutive times for so many seconds 3- Not only did he interpret it twice, but Pavarotti was able to extend the note further on the second occasion in "Vicero" without ever being canceled, that is why: Nessun Dorma = Luciano Pavarrotti. Luciano Pavarotti = Nessun Durma. And with that power and unique voice he must be singing for God in heaven .... !!!

I wholeheartedly agree! I don't care what anyone says, Pavarotti is hands down the the best. His power, his delivery, the effortlessness in which he sings he makes it look like he could go out and run a marathon afterwards and not be winded. Just the plain quality of his voice to my ear is greater certainly than anyone in his generation, and that's not to say that I don't like other opera singers either. He was the best when I was young and I still haven't heard anyone to equal him.
