    Honestly unbelievable you got it that clean. The lines look superb. Down here in Los Angeles it would of got the LA special. Fiberglass and body filler molded body lines. Where the person who does the work prays it starts cracking far enough down the road that the owner has forgotten who did the work. This is the craftsmanship people put your name next to for years. Good stuff.

      I was working in a shop in Goleta Ca. Working on so called restorations . I’d get in trouble for cutting out good rust. His idea of good rust was you can’t poke your finger through it if you can then only weld those spots. I’d say I can’t weld it it’s to thin and it’s rusty I’ll blow holes . He said if I actually new how to weld I could weld rust. Their idea of rust repair is RUST BULLET AND ALMETAL ALUMINIZED FILLER. So when they tell people the repair will be done with all metal . What they really mean is cover the rust with rust bullet then use the ALMETAL plastic filler. I’ve seen some cars crack or rust before they get delivered then the Boss actually adding the hours to the bill for fixing the cracked bondo that they put on

    Confirms all of my suspicions on aftermarket parts. They’re for master class craftsman not weekend warriors. But yeah, they’re all we can get.😅

    Looks good. Back in HS in the early 70s my friends and I all had 63 most were SSs. There were 4 of us. One of my friends still has his, and it is a Sports Coop as an SS with all power options with headlight dimmer, cruise and AC. Re is restoring it now.

    Killer work! These videos are so helpful. Robert, do you notice replacement panels being consistently wrong, or do they vary in correctness? In other words, or some panels always correct, some are always wrong, and some are a mix of correctness?

    • @guzzifabrication3448
      @guzzifabrication3448  Рік тому +2

      Very few replacement parts just "work" out of the box.... seems like the quality has really been slipping the past year or so.

      @@guzzifabrication3448 Thanks Robert! The amount of correction aftermarket metal needs really makes me weigh reconditioning original metal vs replacing it a lot differently. On my project, I have a couple panels that are on the border of repair or replace.

    I’m not as familiar with those mating lines on a 63 but is the reason the tail lamp mounting bracket fitment off because the quarter panel cuts? Are the aftermarket quarters wider then a stock quarter? Working on a 64 but my 63 is next. Not a convertible however lol wish it was tho. Man I love the way your welder welds. ✊ great fab work man !

    This work is amazing. I'm glad for this instruction. Whomever put the quarters on my 72 Plymouth did crap work.. The trunk doesn't line up at all and the side marker light recess is wrong. I'll be thankful for Robert when I start work..

    Thanks for sharing this . I was (I quit working there for these reasons ) I was watching a bodyman put a right quarter on a 63 impala by the time he was done the new quarter was slathering in bondo . And when they went to assemble it the taillights and molding didn’t fit . They cut the ass end off the old quarter Tacked it on the new Chinese quarter and engulfed it in bondo . My old boss liked that the MiG welds would shrink the metal so much that you don’t have to grind the MiG welds onto cover them in bondo . People pay him good money for what I call putting a band aid on a pimple . Its still there but you can’t see it

    I sold metal stampings for a living and am always amazed when a company goes to all the work needed to make a set of stamping dies only to produce an inaccurate part. A lot of people are going to be looking at that corner for years to come.

    This is what I've been running into with my 67 Lemans. Most aftermarket sheet metal is for the Tempest/GTO. I do a lot of cutting and patching. Very slow (for me) and I'll back out of the project so I don't rush it and jack it up worse than it is. Fantastic skills! Love the tips and "tricks"!

    • @guzzifabrication3448
      @guzzifabrication3448  18 днів тому +1

      Take your time, break the work down to small phases, plan, be consistent and your Lemans will turn out great !! Aftermarket parts are a real problem. If you run into any issues leave it in the comments and I'll do my best to help you out.

    Question do use a water proof filler over the welds ? Love watching your videos

    • @guzzifabrication3448
      @guzzifabrication3448  Рік тому +1

      Fiberglass would be the only water proof material, standard filler isn't water resistant that's why quality primers, epoxies, and paint are critical.

    Robert has so little original car to work with. I’m constantly blown away by his creativity to bring back a car. It’s fabrication bordering on artistry. What a talent.
