I have tried, really tried, to make a mental bridge between the acclaimed film, and this TV series. The bunch, who made this series, lifted a Title and a Character's name. That's all. They would have done better to lift the name and character of Holly Martins. This show was successful enough to run for 5 seasons. Way to go!
They also lifted the music. I was familiar with the TV show before I ever saw the movie or had any idea of what it was about. I was totally confused and waiting for some plot twist that would reveal the Harry Lime character as a good guy when I first saw the movie many years later.

Arnold Diamond as the Butler
This is my first exposure to the TV series. How good can it be when they’ve turned Harry Lime into a crime fighter? Yet it gets a 7.9 rating on IMDB. I have to assume it’s because of the quality of the writing and acting. Certainly not because it’s true to the movie. I’ll give it a watch.
Ok, so I watched it. Entertaining but SFA to do with the movie. Did Harris always play a swishy poof?
Though not a film really Shirley? A tv series. I thought I liked the music treatment as a kid at the time but now I'm not so sure. Kinda clangy.
Totally miscast series. Jonathan Harris is an extremely poor actor and ruins everything he appears in. Michael Rennie is wooden to the point of needing Cuprinol every 12 months.
Mind you, the film was rubbish anyway so why a series on the back of it was thought a good idea is a mystery.
I loved it all. Michael Rennie, such an aristocratic gent, Jonathan Harris is so camp and Harry Mudd. All brilliant actors. I dont like the film but millions disagree with me as do the Viennese museum of all things, The Third Man.
