The plates didn't look installed like the manufacturer shows on the website (i.e.- not enough angle on the dangle)
Probably made those plates swing more than they normally would/should (maybe not on the .308.... but personally i wouldn't be shooting budget 3/8" steel targets with .308 anyway)

      Right. Lol

Exactly. The plates are installed incorrectly. They should be angled toward the ground slightly.

AR500 steel is AR500 steel. . It's all the same,

I EXTENDED AND FORTIFIED THE LEGS by inserting the legs in some old fencing posts THAT I CUT IN HALF the CHEAP ONES fit snug right in there a few tek screws and whammo legs that will last a hell of a LOT longer than the tin foil ones they give. i also took out the small TARGET and ran it on another set up centered the big one helps keep point of aim towards the center ALSO REPLACED CHAIN WITH HOME DEPOT CHAIN

Great review! Helped me make a decision on getting some steel targets. Good shooting BTW

Hanging targets with old fence posts and chains extra chains and extra bolts used that for years

"I dont know if the chain link sheared on its own, or because I shot it." ..... 😂 thats a good one.

Lol. I shoot 7.62×54r, .303, 30-30, 8mm, 7.62x39 and more at my 3/8th AR 500 and it has barely dented it. Though I don't shoot straight on that often. However, my shooting has been done on good name targets.

Check out the one with the 2x4 stand, it works better.

You're spot on! I'm trying out a couple 2x4 stands now. One of them is working great

Don't think you are supposed to use rifle caliber on 3/8 ar500. Try 1/2. We've been shooting 1/2 with 5.56 and 5.7. Still looks great

yes but they advertised that I could so had to test it

How do you adjust for angle? The website says you can adjust for angle, but with the chain just flopping around, Not sure that works.

    • @Longslyde1
      @Longslyde1 Рік тому

You mount the carriage bolt tight to the target with one nut, then you mount the chain further back on the long carriage bolts with a couple extra nuts. do not butt the chain link right on the target. the further back you mount the chain on the bolt, the more it angles. 👍 Also, if you don't mind a few extra bux for better durability, go to you local fleet store and buy grade 70 (Gold Color) chain in bulk and some grade 8 carriage bolts... Did this on some other targets and haven't gone through a chain or any bolts yet. Not saying it can't happen, but I know I put a few direct hits on the bolts and chains and they are holding up ok... The largest I shoot is .308 on those targets, and not all the time since you will divet AR500 with a .308.

Hello, the STEEL is rated at 100 yards, not the chain. Once your zero is spot on, you shouldn't hit your chains, only scalding.

You can run 5.56 -308 comfortably. I've run hundreds of x39 through a set of these plates and nothing has been compromised. Im shooting 100 yards easily and confidently.

anyone who shoots steel for any length of time learns very quickly that these types of target setups simply don't work. chains, bolts, etc. quickly get blasted into oblivion. get the ar500 hanger hooks and the ar500 2x4 brackets that use 3/4" emt for legs. the ar500 hooks last forever and the consumables (2x4s, emt) are dead cheap.

The stand is not cool at all. Week 🧐
Get steel at the scrap yard for the stand.
Just don't make it to heavy.

First off, if you are shooting at 100 yards, you honestly should never even hit the chains.. if you stretched it out 250+, you might hit the chains but probably wouldn't destroy them the same way.. shooting steel targets at 100 yards to me is just silly anyway with a centerfire rifle, now push it out to 250+ and it's fun. If I'm shooting at 100 with a centerfire rifle, it's because I'm punching paper for groups, sighting in a rifle or working up hand loads, all in which I would never use a steel target in place of paper.

I use bailing wire no matter what ur gonna be changing chain or wire so not a fan of that in the review shows u are new to shooting steel

I use leather straps or ar500 hooks now. I have to review what came with that kit, which was chains.

@@NeckboneArmory I think it could have easily been prefaced with what I tell all novice shooters. If you shoot things that weren't meant to be shot, they don't behave as expected. Nobody buys ar500 steel expecting non hardened chains and bolts to be ar500 strength. Looking for a review of the steel and the stand stability, not what happens if I go full idiot and shoot all the wrong bits

Definitely only shoot steel targets when you are sighted in. Looks like your shots were all over the place. Yikes. These stands are actually very nice when used by a qualified shooter.

Exactly ! 200 yards with iron sights on an AK is most satisfying :)
