  • The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission is urging motorists to be self-aware of dangerous behaviors behind the wheel - such as speeding and distracted driving - to reduce vehicle crashes, especially in work zones during the roadway construction season.
“Every day we step into these work zones knowing the risks,” said Adam Welfle, an Ohio Turnpike maintenance/roadway worker, in a new video. “The speed of the traffic and the narrow lanes are constant reminders to stay vigilant.”
Work zone-related crashes caused by dangerous driving behaviors can be avoided if motorists follow these basic safety tips: obey the posted speed limit, establish a safe following distance, avoid distractions, pay attention to the signs, and be prepared to slow down or stop.
The turnpike commission has also joined Be Safe Together, a new global roadway safety campaign - led by the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) - to promote safe driving habits. The turnpike commission is an IBTTA member.
