Such an awesome bike. I just picked up a V85 and can only hope it becomes a timeless steed like your Eldorado. Seeing you start it up after a struggle makes it all the more worthwhile. I rode up in Sudbury in late October a few years back. Total frost covering my KLR. We sat around till about 9:30am till it warmed to a might 6C and gave the bike a good workout trying to turn over but the thing is you know it will. If it just fired up I wouldn’t have a storey to remember.
Oh man, you have got to respect the love of motorcycling of a man who does that, in those conditions, for it. "Raw, functional, and unpretentious...", yeah that pretty much describes us, sir. And proud of it. Another outstanding moto-log, sir!
Having inspired me to make certain domestic arrangements which would allow me to actual use the old T4 more, I am enjoying the instalments of your trip. Many thanks!
Hi Nick I am truly inspired by your adventures. I think I'm really doing something most people wouldn't think of doing by riding my Convert all over WV and surrounding states. The places you ride and the types weather you take on really deserve an absolutely well done. And! On an old Eldorado! I don't say these things lightly because I do a fair amount of miles myself. Cheers, Nick. I really appreciate your videos and travel logs. TT
I hate battery problems. Unfortunately they are common in Alaska. Sometimes I’ll replace a working battery just because I want one that’s newer. The Ambassador nearly let me down yesterday because of my procrastination in putting on the new fuel taps. Felt like it was running out o gas, but the tank was full. Made it home and checked the fuel flow. Drip, drip. Nothing to do but tear into it. Took about 2 hours, not bad. Worst of it was draining the full tank into something.
Kudos to you for doing this long and a little arduous, stressful-at-times trip of a lifetime. Not that you haven't done lots of the same in the past, but this is really extraordinary. It must have been really special.
very enjoyable Nick. Nothing worse than the Oh $h*t moments...but nothing better than the sound of that engine when you get it to FINALLY fire up...(had a similar one the other day but I wasnt anywhere remote). Enjoying this series very much
I'm loving this series Nick, thank you. (I also have all your books) Curious to know what you have/do against bears should they come sniffing around your tent at night. Or is that not a thing that happens?
Thanks Dave - most appreciated. Anything I know ONLY applies to Black Bears. I have no knowledge or experience of any others. It's mostly common sense and good luck. Don't eat at the same place you camp. Don't carry food and if you do, store it well away from the campsite. No food inside the tent - ever! No toothpaste, skin creams or much of anything else anywhere near you. The closer you are to human settlement, the higher the potential for trouble as bears come to associate people with food, since we're slovenly monkeys. Pray. So far, I've been lucky.
Nick I noticed you don't have a lot of videos with your Convert. Do you have a lot of issues with it. Just wondering, I have a 1984 and it always something wrong with it

Thanks MS. I'm lucky to have a fairly well developed ability to withstand discomfort. Still, there were times.....😝

Take it easy and have fun.
What an adventure!
It must be very satisfying to hear the Eldorado cough back to life after camping in such remote and chilly conditions .
Relief.

When I lived in northern VT I changed the battery every year. Avoided being stuck.
