This week, we're taking us back to May 2021, when we were "Back Home Again in Indiana"! Fun fact -- we all called Indiana home before moving to Nashville, TN! Christina and Nash were also both born in Indiana!
While we were in Indy, we sat down with Jillian Ashton and Sean Diamond from ICAN (Indiana Canine Assistant Network). ICAN trains and places assistance dogs with individuals with disabilities and provides foundational life skills to inmates through their experience as trainers. ICAN is the only ACCREDITED service dog training program based in Indiana. Isn't that amazing? Jillian is the President of ICAN and Sean is their Director of Training. We were first introduced to Jillian through a mutual friend and she and Sean quickly became some of our good friends that we deeply admire and respect. Their love for their work is contagious and their stories are powerful! We left this interview completely speechless.

ICAN was a turning point in my life. I was just released from prison last week and the time I spent as a handler helped prepare me for the new life I will build from this point.
Wow. What an incredible program. Dogs really are the crazy-glue and duct tape that hold and connect the universe together. Thank you Christina! This was truly fascinating and it gave me an idea! (or maybe a purpose!)

Thus was a great interview Christina and Sean with these people on training dogs to be with prisoners as therapy dogs. That is a great thing to do. I’m glad they have a program like that. Just out of interest are your service dogs mainly labradors and goldens is it their temperament? I have seen German shepherds as service dogs Will it depend on prisons.
That’s a great question! These dogs are mainly labs and Goldens due to their temperament.
I thought this would show the inmates and puppies. This is all about the 2 ladies talking.
They did a great job explaining the impact the nonprofit has in the Indianapolis area. I hope you enjoyed!
