Eutrophication is the main problem affecting lake Victoria. There is large intake of fertilizers from farming activities from the catchment areas, effluents from the industries that border the lake.
Even if you eradicate the hyacinth and do not solve the issue of eutrophication , the consequences will be more worse as this will decrease the amount of dissolved oxygen resulting to death of most of the fish species.

Lake Victoria has been our pride since time immemorial. There's nothing we're proud of of as a country like a full resourced lake ,.
Water hyacith has been a bone eating on this lake causing very unfair factors even to residents with their dependance as a source f livelihood.
This epidemic is being cured in very many ways but healing seems to to be this soon nor either happen anymore.
Despite the alarm being raised before by different media,I'm very much delighted with the angle CHAMS MEDIA has taken in this informative segment on this crisis.
The government needs to sit together with all the the experts before initiating anything on hyacith control and many more.A good Production CHAMS MEDIA.

Excellent innovations of the hyacinth products! Plus...parts of it (flowers and young leaves) are edible!!! The positive thing about the hyacinth is it gives a chance for the waters to rest and be less exploited by the many greedy parties awaiting a slice (not the various locals). God knows best 🙌

It's sad to see Kenya also having this problem. Here in Ethiopia we also have the same problem of the weed on our biggest lake TANA.

Create a pathway for water vessels and put floating fence and gates to prevent the water hyacinth to enter
the waterways while harvesting the rest, put a shredding plant nearby and use the by-product of the water hyacinth for fuel, like charcoal or biogas that was already being utilized and can create livelihood for the local community while erradicating the weeds.

Good luck uprooting the hyacinth with all the crocodiles swimming around, you'd had to lower down divers in metal suits.

Chamwada very poor title and interviews. Expert speaks??? No expert. Dr. Said Matano just lied to you and you cannot even ask follow up question. He said 15 million people around the lake Victoria. False! And the deputy governor ati Dr. Owili, did not speak about water hyacinth in any context. An 8 year old kid with help of their parents could have made a better presentation. Asking fishermen about what feeds water hyacinths is a typical fallacy to authority. Just because you fish on the lake does not make you an expert. Finally, my solution; first water hyacinth problem has been resolved in the developed world for example in Japan. Google or angalia kwa UA-cam. Am worried about where we are heading as a country...sad sad 😢
