Don Campbellock and the Lockers is one of the founder's of Hip Hop and dance in my opinion. From Europe too Asia their influence has spread. Arcourse?! The legend's never get respect? Especially in this new mellenial age. Those who grew up in the mid 80's and 90's like myself can actually say they are legendary.
Absolutely 👍
A perspective that can only come from having been there. How CAN they know, if they don't know? I crack up, sometimes, when I see what they call "great" nowadays, because, thank GOD, I've lived long enough to have a real perspective.
True I agree
He was one of the best I’ve ever seen
In and around LA cambellock flukey Luke and shabbadoo myself and others used to hit dance contests almost every night. It was not for money but just dance I am proud to have seen history in the making. I hope that someday they will be compensated the way they should be. 🎵❤️
I am just heartbroken 💔😞. RIP Adolfo Shabba-Doo Quinones
Oh shit..u just broke the news to ME.
He was the reason I love dancing, they called him Shabadoo because he could actually repeat and dance move he saw, flawlessly
The Lockers deserve an episode on Unsung Hollywood
Absolutely.
ESP NOW with ShabbaD gone,😔😕😔😕😔😢🙁
Time's-a- wasting before there won't be anyone left alive.
Yes they do.
Yes they do!!!
Rest in peace, Adolfo "Shabba-Doo" Quiñones. His sister Fawn was DOPE, too!
May Don "Campbellock" Campbell and The Lockers be inducted into the Hall of Fame!
Tony Basil is still no joke to this day! 🌹
Good call.

I agree 100% thanks for commenting.
Breakin....just breakin
This is locking. Coming from L.A.... Breaking was being created on the other side of the country in NY. Kool Herc had dancers.
It would also millions more in DA PRISON system if not 4 dancing!!!!!
Dancing is life. Fun, free, creative and energizing. Peace to you all. ShabbaDoo, you will be in our hearts
I was a little guy but I remember them well. Toni Basil is 76 going on 77 now 😳 I bugged out when I saw her dancing on shows from wayyyy back in 1964,I didn't know she was that old until several years ago.
There is a video on UA-cam showing her dancing at 74 and she is still killing it!
@@andrewtillman7605 YESSS 😅I saw that too,she SHOLL Was!!!😂
This is History and a blessing
This video should be in the hall of fame of hip hop❤❤❤❤
Excellent! Amazing history. I loved Barry as ReRun in "What's Happening".
Love from South Africa.®®®
Fantastic video 📹 footage. Think they should be in the hall of fame. For the members that passed away
🕊Rest in Heaven🕊
To them. I hope they put them in the hall of fame. It would be fantastic.
The Next level Dj.m.smooth
I met Rerun's grandmother in the Cleveland bus station. She was so proud of him. Her face lit up when I said I knew and loved him.
Fred Berry aka "Rerun" used to Lock on the '70s show "What's Happening?". R.I.P 🙏🏼
I remember them. I'm in their age group. They were great. I never had any desire to do what they did, because I couldn't dance a lick
Thanks for commenting Charles appreciate your feedback.

RIP Shabba-Doo, thanks for the great dancing!🌹🕯🕊
I loved them! They rocked it.
Rest in Peace Shabba Doo ❤
These guys don’t get the credit they deserve. I remember them from the 70s. Great moves to this day.
WOW, growing up in California I was a young pop locker, I remember watching Sabado, on a show called the big show . with I believe Ed Mcman, I think later on this show become Star search. not aware that pop-locking was just locking at first. thanks for the trip back to a time when life was much more beautiful. love your videos
, I'm still here 55
Yes Toni did that Egyptian dance on soul train Freaked me out !! Mad skills!!! Love her
Thank you for putting this tribute together❤️! The lockers are the GOATS of Hip Hop dance! Definitely unsung and belong in the Hall of Fame! RIP Don Campbellock, Fred “Penguin ReRun” Berry, Greg Campbellock Jr, and most recently Adolfo “Shabba Doo” Quinoñes!
Toni Basil is the truth! A true dancer in every way and a beautiful soul!
Again, Rest in Power Lockers! I know y’all are tearing that dance floor up in Heaven!
Sir, thank you, I wanted to bein the lockers when I was in fifth grade, watching Toni dance made my day!
These folks were my inspiration and introduction to dancing and entertainment... I had a locking group as a youngster and we killed in the talent shows back in the 70's. I can still lock too.. R
Peaceful Rest Don and Shabba Doo! You fellas gave the world something wonderful and memorable. Legends
RIP Shabba Doo and Rerun!
I love seeing them dance in the Wattstax footage during Rufus Thomas's The Breakdown performance. You can see the birth of the dance forming. So much style just amazing.
I knew that Don campbelllock in the wattstax footage
I have met him once, back in 1986-87. I didn't know he passed away. Thanks for everything my hero!
Rest in Peace, my man Adolfo Gutierrez Quiñones a.k.a. Shabadoo - Love you man.
great vid,,i was a locker here in Barbados and i was influenced by watching this great group on soul train
Glad you enjoyed it
Loved them they really knew how to throw it down
Your contribution to the history of this dance group is very much appreciated. It is so important we document and teach about what influences the 70's had and how it evolved into an art form in the 80's. Every 10 years something magical happens in the world of dance and music. How lucky we are that we were there to see it all unfold.
Wow shabadoo from Soul Train , gliding across the stage , I remember him I think everyone had a crush on him he was a smooth operator 😀back in the day , we are the same age 65 years young at heart, , keep on dancing my brother ,
may he rest in peace.
Terry Swoope, please do a video on Toni Basil!!.. That woman is still dancing her butt off!!.. She is awesome even at the age of 75!.. Just saw her dancing with a young guy. He could barely keep up with her. .. Wow! . Thank you for this amazing video also. Happy New Year!! .. God Bless You Always, CC
Toni Basil danced in 1964's (the year the Beatles first came to America) Robin and the 7 Hoods: Frank, Sammy, Dean--"The Rat Pack's best film and there she was in 2018 or '19 at 74 still getting down with a young brother probably much less than half her age.
If there's a Hall of Fame for dancers, at least two of these folks should be in it!
I actually had a chance to see the Lockers at Radio City Music Hall. They were the opening act for a Funkedelic, Ohio Player & Graham Central Station concert. I'll never forget it.
Whoa, what a line up!
So sad that Shabba Doo is no longer with us now.
Toni Basil was dancing with Elvis & James Brown in the 1960's....
She was in the movie easy Rider and five easy pieces as well. And of course who can forget the hit song Mickey
It’s hard to believe but she was also in one of those Bikini Beach movies in the 60’s.
Thank you for the video. Terry swoope. I remember him dancing on Soul Train
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for commenting.
Terry is coming through with these videos 🤗
They were also featured in the RightON! Magazine Shabba Doo went on to films Breakin movies etc. He is in his60's he still looks good Shabba Doo still got it.
Don Campbell has passed
RIP Shabba doo!!! Yo I cannot believe it. Him and Basil looked the healthiest and the best.
Why? Because they were the most fair skinned?
He had a blockage in an artery and didn't know it
No , because they took the the best care of themselves.
In 2020 right before the new year, Shabba Doo passed away. RIP.
Toni Basil has been a dancer and choreographer since the 60s. She has chorerogaphed many major films and music tours
RIP Don Campbellock Campbell
He’s not dead
@@rudy6222 ummm yes. Died a couple months back. Google it
Terry.......another dope one here! I can still see Don bopping up and down, pausing, posing. Lord! Old enough to remember him dancing on Soul Train. My young eyes used to rome all 13 inches of my black and white tv until I saw him. Thank you for sharing in that I had no idea he passed. Rest in power Brother Don!!!
Hall of Fame, amen to that brother.
Rest In Peace Shabba-Doo take your rest
Toni Basil also she died 5 Dec 2020!
@@michaeldunson2531 toni basil is still alive
@@briannichols159 No she is not, she passed away on 5 Dec 2020! Its only a simple search to find that before posting!
@@michaeldunson2531 sir her death was what you call a celebrity hoax I done my research very well it looks like you're the one who needs to do some research, now carry on 😮
I agree with you wholeheartedly dancing does keep you in shape and keep you young and all everything that you I still locked myself at age 59
I've always loved watching the lockers dance. I often tried to imitate there moves.
During my breakin' day (80's) I gravitated to lockin'....
They blew me away, when I first seen them
I remember them from WAAAY back when I was a boy & Rerun on What's Happening! It's great to get an update on the lives & careers of these entertainers that I watched & enjoyed as a youth 7 to find most of them healthy & relatively sound. Didn't know Shabba Doo & Toni Basil were original Lockers, thanks for the info, bless you!
Shabba Doo passed away as well sadly.....I'm 47 and I remember watching this group's dance performances as a child. Influenced many of my own moves in my dancing years. I hope now that they do get the recognition they deserve.
RIP Shabba Doo! 💔
The real OG’s
Education , Educational ! History ! Thanks !
Glad you enjoyed it
RIP Don "Campbellock" Campbell
& Adolfo "Shabba Doo" Quiñones, thanks for creating poplocking!!!
I currently work with Fluky Luke, and im truly in awe of him. He's got the best stories. I could listen to him all day. He's the most interesting person I've ever met.
Fun fact...Michael Jackson also mastered their locking dance and showed it off on The Jacksons mid-70s TV show.
On Sonny & Cher, Michael also did some Locking while performing Dancing Machine with his brothers back in 1974
Michael did the robot before the Lockers did it. Michael premiered it in 173 with the song Dancing Machine
Tony Basil is 76 and still moving like that. I'm 44 and my knees start to buckle just getting out the bed.
She died on the 5 Dec 2020!
@@michaeldunson2531 Whaaat?!
@@sheresejames-grow1779 No she didn't that's just a rumor going around...he got me too.
RIP Adolfo Gutierrez Quiñones AKA Ozone, AKA Shabba Doo.
May 11, 1955 to December 30, 2020
Two of my favorite female dancers were Terrible T and Sweet LD...
Terry Swoope, The Lockers were awesome. That's how I learned how to dance. Them and James Brown were my teachers. I could do anything they could do. Won all the dance contests I entered!!. STill dancing by the way. .. Thank you for all these seriously amazing videos. YOU ROCK ON ALL LEVELS TERRY! .. God Bless You Always, CC
Breakdancing, popping and locking, liquid style were my life in the late 90s. Hell I still enjoy dancing in that style, I am just older now so I don't do a lot of the more acrobatic moves anymore. The lockers were amazing.

" Thanks so much for sharing this video with your viewers.
This brings back memories of Soul Train ! "
You're very welcome
I always watched Soul Train not for the entertainers but for the dancing, and the Soul Train Line which spotlighted Locking. I embraced the dance. Back then my boys called me Soul Train Zach
LOVE IT!!! I LOVE DANCE AND TONI BASIL IS THE FIRST PAULA ABDUL...
I was so in love with Shabba-doo 🤩🤩😍💜💜💙💚💙💜 thanks for the update
I was there when the lockers would dance at dance contests in southern ca. Nightclubs it was called circuit dancing then they were not just incredible dancers they were incredible people always gentlemen. I'm happy I was there to see history in the making ❤❤❤❤❤
Great video! Someone said it is a bad Omen to speak of the dead, RIP, Shabba-doo.
Awesome group, self-made professionals who never really got their due on an international level. 'The Lockers' defined the epitome of 70s dance moves. Their influence was in literally everything that was cool in 70s pop culture. Disco, Mickey J. and 70s Saturday Morning and Afternoon TV owe a lot to this great and very talented group. Right up there with the Harlem Globetrotters, in my opinion.
Shaba-doo is still a gorgeous man. God bless him
may he rest in peace.
YESSSSSSS LORD
My heroes since 73 seeing Carol Burnette show where Don has Red n yellow on that's when Charles "Robot" Washington was with them!!!!! Toni was a known choreographer since the 60s
"Im Campbellockin!!!!!" Amazing!!!! R.I.P Don, Fred,Greg,Shabba-Doo Im still Lockin long as the Funk lives i do "Lock it up one time!"
Fred Berry AKA Re-run was a dancer! I enjoyed the show he was in: What's Happening from the mid-76-79. I agree, dancing keeps you young! I danced all the way up to my 60s until I broke my ankle in an accident, but I still do a little dancing! Thanks for doing this clip on the dancers of Soul Train.
I learned something today. Thank you 👍
I enjoyed this video and remember the Lockers but I didn't know Toni Basil was one of them.
Sure loved Fred "Rerun" Berry.
I WAS A LITTLE KID THEN BUT I REMEMBER THEM , THANKS
Never heard of them,I just love, and really love learning about the black culture, aoteroa new Zealand Maori boy born native
Love soul train mobile dj for 20 yrs and todays digi info packages reveal the history of the music - used to play mickey in the school discos never knew she was a mover thanks xx
Lockers should have a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. For real.
In high school, me and my friends tried all those moves by The Lockers. We had some success then in 1993...but at 41, I wouldn't dare try those knee and bottom drops.
RIP Shaba Doo 🙏💔🙏
Growing up in LA and seeing these guys perform was awesome ....
Good video Swoop! Love the truth and history! I started trying to lock in the early 70's and still bust a move daily! Rerun and Shabadoo were definitely two of my childhood heros! RIP to all of these fallen heros!
Wow these dancers look amazing for their age. Dancing keeps you looking young. Shabadoo is my favourite. He’s so handsome and good looking. I couldn’t even believe he’s up to 65
👀Toni Basil my jaw is on the floor😳
My husband Shabba Doo still looks good!
may he rest in love and peace.
I am a 73 year old white woman- nothing can compare to breaking, locking, my favorite people- they noticed- you guys were F----- bad asses!!!
Those were my dance heroes in the mid 70s. I was born in 67 so when i first saw this style of dancing in 73-77 i couldn't WAIT to see Soul Train every Saturday at 11:45 to see Locking on the Soul Train line. Memories..when nobodys around and Planet Rock is on i get my Lockin on. 😆 peace yall.
Shabba Doo passed away 12-30-2020. I couldn't believe it! I loved me some Shabba Doo! 😃💝😄💝. Rest In Paradise King. 1-14-2021(Thurs.)
Agree w/u on T. Basil. 💯. There was a locking dance called "THE CAMELOT". the silver dollar. I once heard some young dancer (in Culver city, ca, circa 2009), the one male, was telling the girls "its NOT pop locking, its popping AND locking-TWO DIFFERENT DANCES". the girls: " yeah, yeah your right...." I spun around and SCHOOLED them. I was shocked, dismayed, saddened- they had their info and dance bass ackward. Sad. Some STILL say "poppin AND locking". Corn balls. But sad b/c THESE trailblazers need their flowers, as they say. I do my lil part to inform-but who am I? Thx. to you for your work and vids. And im sure u know shabadoo passed. My bro knew shabado before he passed, my bro had me rollin, about how high energy he was and A PROUD PR.. ❤❤
ALL love & Props for your efforts in bringing this to us Bruh!!..👏🏾🤘🏾🙏🏾 I’ll be 65yrs old this year of 2021 and Music (✨🎙🎸as a Musician) and Dance (✨🕺🏿🎈🎉as an Entertainer)..empowered my entire life!..still today! The Lockers,..Cleveland Moses (a friend & fellow resident in Japan) Jeffery Daniels,..Tyrone Procter, Joe Chizem,..and all the well-known and relevant Ladies of Dance as well,..The Soul Train Gang & Something Special and “Maverick Flats” THE Joint!!.all were very influential on the path of my life & career! They,..just existing..steered me away from the bad ways & choices in the average life of a Black Youth thus letting me pursue the dreams I had to make them proud plus continue their legacy thus promote blessings of Dance & Entertainment! Thanks my Brother again for doing all you do to promote the “Art of Dance”...b(‘ _< )💖
Totally Agree
Awesome video! They were such a legendary dance group!
Awesome video with lots of information. I remember watching The Lockers on Soul Train as a kid and a fan of all of them as individuals.
Damiti Jo Freeman was talking in this video her and Toni Basil are clearly not only Greatest female dancers but dancer period.
Great vid! I grew up loving all these dancers and mimicking their dance moves.
absolutely birlliant!! learned so much from this, love it!
