The Lockers were 🔥🔥🔥 Does anyone know when Fred “Rerun” Berry stopped performing with them? I notice in some clips he’s with them and the earlier ones he’s not.
I saw you on an episode of “What’s Happening” I looked through the credits and didn’t see your name. I guess it was under the dance group name; and I said, Holy shit, that’s the guy in the movie”Breakin”. To this day that is one of my all-time favorite movies. Anyway, it made me wonder what the rest of your career looked like. Thank goodness for UA-cam because I had no idea that you did so many marvelous things. 👍🏻
shabba doo thanks for uploading this rare video of the lockers! do you have any rare clips of you poppin in a studio or performing we meed more on youtube!
Forgot to mention that back in the early days ,Shabba Doo and Flukey Luke were brother in laws with Flukey married to Shabba Doos sister. So there was a close connection then, I do not know now how close they remain today, as I believe Flukey and Shabba Doos sister are no longer married...
feel sorry for The Lockers, the more famous they got and the more exposure the were given , they were forced to water down their dancing to fit in to the commercial mainstream that was not the funk music and dancing we saw on Soul Train and in the beginning, they became clownish to fit what they had to to survive in the entertainment world back then. Today they would have been able to keep the soul, funk music they were famous for. I am sure they were frustrated of what they had to give up and give into to make it in "show business", but Don Campbell was the first, and always will be. Great group , great dancers everyone a pioneer for the rest to follow. Out of this we get The GoGos, Chain Reaction, and more, now Locking is all over the world, Thank You, Mr. Campbell , and The Lockers .☺☺☺☺☺
Judy McGaugh, Thanks for all that. I defence of the "clownishness", although I see and even agree with you, this clip is not that bad. I see elements of mime in their routine. The Feelings number is too sedate for The Lockers, though, so the producer and tv choreographer were obviously struggling to contain their performance to the small stage. My biggest issue with this number is the music! That nearly kills the performance. If only they had gotten Steve Binder to produce The Lockers, they would have been showcased with much greater care, love and understanding! All acts, new and old, need to be "gotten" first by the person in the studio trying to get them across to the rest of the world. I just wish Steve had the chance to produce The Lockers. This was just 10yrs after his The TAMI Show, and the way that itself never got off the ground annually the way he wanted, he must have been heartbroken at the time and never got involved in this. Feelings *would* have been better in his hands, for sure.
Dear Judy McGaugh, if you think they had to be too "clownish" for TV, just look at f20080818's channel - ua-cam.com/video/5Ysep7NpBfI/v-deo.html . That public intro (by some poor forgotten Canadian white man who was still cool) actually included two long Lockers solos, and *starts with Don CampbellLocker* looking even more "clownish" there, but doesn't it work so much better? When the studio orchestra was with them, they shine, yet their costumes were even more embarrassing, and perhaps pointedly & deliberately "clownish" because that look was their style. They were just starting their careers. The hats were trying to be "Zoot Suit". "Feelings" is a clumsy showcase, it just doesn't do them justice, you're right, but it's mostly the incompetent staging and the whitewashed, horrible muzak!! Live long and prosper, Lockers!
Loved everything BUT the music.😬 I like music like this... BUT NOT FOR LOCKERS DANCING!!!😱🤦🏿♀️🤨🤔 SOUL MUSIC IS WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED!!!!!!!!!🤩😍💖
