Why the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta is a Bucket List Event!

We experienced our first Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta back in 2015 when we RV camped at Balloon Fiesta Park with Grammy K, Stacie's Aunt Judy and our great friends and fellow RVers Scott and Judy. We had an incredible time and we've recommended a trip to the ABQ Balloon Fiesta to hundreds of people since that time.
We've also recommended that RVers take in this bucket list festival by reserving an RV campsite at Balloon Fiesta Park. There are thousands of campsites available on the balloon festival grounds each year, but those campsites are incredibly tough to get. The reservations book up almost immediately upon release.
Balloon Fiesta 2022 is the 50th Anniversary of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and we tried for hours to reserve a campsite when they went on sale. But we had no luck. So we made other travel plans and went on with our year.
And then, as the Albuquerque Fiesta was going on, we found ourselves a mere 200 miles away seeing reports of consistently bad weather and weather forecasts in the Albuquerque region. Normally, we travel away from inclement weather. But here, we saw an opportunity.
We called the Balloon Fiesta to check on RV reservation cancellations, and while no campsites had opened up, they told us about another option. The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, 10 miles from Balloon Park in Albuquerque NM had opened up a parking lot for dry camping for the first time this year. And no one seemed to know about it!
So with everything else completely booked up for a 100 mile radius, we took a chance and found a dry camping spot at the IPCC. And then a truly amazing thing happened... someone cancelled their reservation and we were able to get a last minute RV campsite on the grounds of Balloon Fiesta!
