Я помню эти замечательные времена с совершенно гениальным моим художественным руководителем Геннадием Николаевичем Рождественским!!!!!! Спасибо Вам!С любовью и уважением,Владимир Александрович Колпашников,
0:06 is a good place to start. +
For me, its always been the Andante movement that bothered me. I know, the idea is to provide an emotional contrast following the delightful Scherzo, but this time Glazunov got a little carried away. Sobbing strings were never my favorite, I usually skip the third movement entirely when listening to this one.
Surely the noble deceased, his heirs and assigns, are all turning over in their graves....Have you no mercy at all, Sir?
Sobbing strings? Of course, this is Russian romanticism in all of its glory.
I only listen to Adagii, Andanti, and sometimes Andantini.
I dont know how some people may call this symphony a boring one, its wonderful and intepretation is one of the best here.
Echt bewundernswert!
I only discovered this symphony today, after the scherzo was played on BBC Radio 3. I like it very much - very tranquil, with a touch of melancholy.
Allegro
- 00:00
Scherzo - Vivace
13:02
Andante
- 22:50
Finale: Allegro moderato - 35:05
Except for his ballet "The Seasons" - for the most part, unfairly, Glazunov/Glazounov is treated at the Rodney Dangerfield of late romantic Russian composers. Not to me. For the most part as a lyric composer of symphonies I think he is a genius.
Ah, it's been 20 years since I last heard this. Every note familiar.
Ok I've listened to this one as well. Now that's Nos 1 2 & 3. Number 2 I think is a bit easier to listen to but this 3rd Symphony has enjoyable moments as well. I suspect that the others from now on are going to be as 'long winded' . I'm finding that there is a lack of focus or 'purpose to this large work and it doesn't have much 'pulse' But that's me and my expectations I suppose.
And the 3rd is better than the 1st & 2nd put together...quite interesting!
Considering the description of this upload, you better unite the composer's name in the title to Glazunov, as is generally used in the English-speaking world.
okay
Tant de générosité me donne des frissons !
some excellent music... balshoi spaciba :) my version is Moscow state orchestra so lively!

Thanks for uploading!
All told, this is a disappointing symphony, even with a sparklingly original 'scherzo' and a touching 'andante' in which Glazunov "hits his mature stride" for sure. The too-repetitive first movement could have been redeemed by a stronger finale, but instead of raising us to the heights, it remains earthbound. The fault here may lie totally in the undistinguished material, but I sense a lack of forward motion or thrust also on the part of the conductor. The fugue at 42:05 and the chorale at 46:49 seem to need much more life injected into them.
Oh, you really thought the first movement was too boring? :(
It was quite appealing to my taste, I really appreciated the way he totally milked the motivic idea to its core! I could almost sense it was his intention, to see how far can he develop a single motive!
I especially enjoyed the heroic/adventure like-section from 3:50 and how it transitions into this beautiful dream-like idea in g Dorian at around 5:00! :)
sulla=nulla.
