- An Extract from the film 'waterloo', showing the Duke of Wellington, his generals and officers before the Battle.
After defeating France and imprisoning Napoleon on Elba, ending two decades of war, Europe is shocked to find Napoleon has escaped and has caused the French Army to defect from the King back to him. The best of the British generals, the Duke of Wellington, beat Napolean’s best generals in Spain and Portugal, but has never faced Napoleon. Wellington stands between Napoleon with a makeshift Anglo-Allied army and the Prussians. A Napoleon victory will plunge Europe back into a long term war. An allied victory could bring long term peace to Europe. The two meet at Waterloo where the fate of Europe will be decided.
12:45. “By God that man does war honor”. Classic line.
Such a quotable movie, I swear every third line is a classic.
"Gin, is the spirit of their patriotism"
I loved the part where Napoleon stormed into the Ballroom and said, “YOU THINK YOU’RE SO GREAT BECAUSE YOU HAVE BOATS!”
That’s the newer Napoleon movie, and the new one sucked, this one is way better.
You missed the joke@@HuntzerH_123
"YOU THINK YOU’RE SO GREAT BECAUSE YOU HAVE BOATS"
Yes + skill issue 🗿
I laughed my ass off at this comment. Thanks for that lol
Not just any boats, the Flower class corvettes good sir!
This film is a Masterpiece
Thank you for the upload. I've always found this scene so poignant, seeing the officers dance the night away with their sweethearts and wives only to be killed the next day. The film mastered it beautifully. Thank again for the upload!
You should look into the artwork inspired by the Duchess of Richmond's ball. William Heath's "Intelligence of the Battle of Ligny" is portrayed in this scene.
@@Zwei4815 Thanks I certainly will.
The sheer number of candles really captures the spirit of the era. If anything was going to inspire Kubrick to make Barry Lyndon, it had to be this movie.
What a great film. I totally respect Napoleon. The Duke of Wellington, what a man. British aristocrat with nerves of steal...not to say Napoleon didn't have nerves of steal.
They must have skipped the part where that one rifle officer interrupts the whole dance
Isn’t it a Prussian Officer?
I see a sharpe reference. Naturally I like it. That's my style sir.!
Major Ducos wants to know your location...
@@mischa1601mh the sharpe tv series’s coat, buttons up TIGHT over a number of other responsibilities, SIR
This one of my favorite movies of all time, and I’ve forced so many different people to watch it and they all enjoy it immensely.
the level of effort on the chandeliers, the extras, the ballroom… the old guard later in the film… this is what Ridley Scott aspired to with Napoleon lol
To Wellington. The Hero of the day. To Wellington.
R.I.P. Christopher Plummer
I love you Wellington ! ❤
See the Conquering Hero comes. Wellington himself.
Wellington looked so impressive with his Garter Star and his Spanish Golden Fleece. Did generals actually go to battle with all those orders and decorations on those days?
When Wellington calls his own men thieves and scum, was he being affectionate? Or was it genuine contempt because he was of a higher class? Hard to tell, but to me it almost seemed more fatherly than outright malicious.
Its a combination of two things: pragmatism - Wellington understood that duty alone could not compel men to fight and die in vast numbers; the majority were in the army because they had little other choice and many signed up in lieu of prison sentences. The second is the kind of paternal classism that was prevalent at the time - ‘the poor know not what they do, their betters are to show them the way’
Mate we're going to have to duel over rights to our profiles😂
When kings recognise kings
@@thesecondloneranger4458 The duke was born in Dublin but schooled in England and did not mix with the common Irish and hence would have had a very proper English accent. He was Anglo-irish.
See The Conquering Hero comes himself.
The Duke of Wellington is one my favourite british historic figures.
The Great Hero of the British Army.
A Toast to Sir Arthur Wellesley. Cheers.
Wellington je t’aime !!! 😍 vive Napoleon et vive Wellington !!! 💕
The fuck 💀💀💀💀
I'm a bit of a 1st Duke of Wellington Fan.
What song played when Wellington circles Waterloo?
Monarchy means Peace. 🇬🇧
Republic means War. 🇫🇷
The irony is that the British ended up signing the Entante Cordiale with the French in 1904 and going into war with their cousins who were always their allies and saved them at Waterloo.
GOD SAVE THE KING.
LONG LIVE THE KING.
8:47 j’adore cette musique quel et le nom de la musique s’il vous plaît !?
This is the masterpiece , one year later

Ah, the well-marched disciplined tattoo @ the Halifax Convention Centerto be missed is to have missed the greatness of England in Canada.
I love you maréchal-ney ! ❤
This guys insane 😭😭😭
Blücher seems to have won at Waterloo
And Blutchers arrival would have been totally useless if Wellington was not holding the ridge to begin with. Waterloo was a joint effort
I am 72 with a proud soldier.
This steel is my word.
I am too old to brake it.
If Wellington runs for the coast, none of us will get home to Berlin.
I do not trust the English.
GOD HELP US.
song name at 6:43 please
Poor Wellington he denied being born in Dublin all his cowardly life.
I wish France was a Monarch today.
But its not anymore. 😔😢
Hello sir Wellington ! 🥰

Napoleon was nothing compered to the Duke, a master tactician.
