My kids groan but my wife knows that running is one of the better obsessions. squeezed in my ~15 mins with SJD before online church started yesterday :)
QD: my long run was the longest run of my renewed running career after quitting over 30 years ago and then starting back up two and a half years ago 👍. Only 11 mi, but I have been very cautious and careful about building miles, and constantly fighting shin issues too. In fact, I just modified my training plan to allow more recovery in between runs and I already feel the difference in a good way 👍👍
QD: Finally, I won the race this Saturday for the first time in this year :-) 10k road village race in 34:28 (little hilly, 150m elev.gain), 12 seconds better than last year ;-)
Shoutout from Singapore! There's quick a fair bit of us watching your reviews RELIGIOUSLY! All the best to True Love as she ramps up the mileage!! DGR STRONG!
Time on feet that you mentioned is a good metric for what a “long run” is, even if that’s still relative. Your middle distance mileage is longer than most will ever run lol
I try to keep my long run right around 35% of my weekly distance. It holds me accountable for having enough supporting miles to stay healthy after going long. 20 miles a week, I try to stay under 8 mile long runs, and 30 miles a week, I’ll let myself slide up to 11 miles or so.
So excited for these V3! I bought the V2 entirely because of your glowing recommendation. I might add, as a WIDE FOOTED dude, these are great for people that require wide sizes, rare in running shoes. Love it Seth! Thanks for the great tips as always. Keep seeking beauty and spreading the love!
Dewa here: QD; Well, let's just say we ran (and power hiked) Mount Elbert top to bottom in under 4 hours! It was my first 14er, and though there were challenges and drawbacks, we did it and I had such an amazing time! It was truly awesome! And thank you so much for your inspiration and encouragement, Seth! Pike's Peak watch out!
I am 6'2", 200lbs and currently running 35-45 miles per week in the Triumph 17. They are amazing. The weight seems insignificant at my weight and build, but the support and energy return is sooo noticable. Highly recommend the Ride and Triumph lineups for larger runners.
Love your videos Seth! I ran from Breckenridge Brewing in Littleton to South Platte Trailhead in Thornton, CO for 25 miles. Getting my wife ready for her virtual Boston Marathon. Great day on Saturday!
I remember the Baby Blues for sure... I think that was actually the shoe that I was looking for when I found the channel, I also remember when we hit 10K and the poster now already getting to 100K soon crazy how quickly this community has grown...
Managed a 27km long run yesterday - longest run in over a year! Happy with the pace and was pushed along by a faster friend which always helps! Bit tired today, but bopped along in the Hokas anyway for 10k for active recovery.
Def remember the baby blues! Been here for a while SJD! For those wondering about weight and shoes. I have the V2’s and I am usually between 195 and 205 pounds. Got 300+ miles and had no issues. Worked well for me. 👍🏼
Compare this vs NB Prism....I remember the ladies baby blue. You’ve come a long way and can’t wait to be watching when you hit 100k and beyond! Stay healthy!
QD: taking a break, no LR Love the beacons, used the v1 for a 10 mile mountain road race because they were light, pretty responsive, affordable, and cushioned enough to handle the pounding of a long/steep road downhill.
You running in the v1 got me to buy, and run in, my first NB ever! Loved v1, hated v2 so I'm a bit tepid on v3 but I think we'll give them a shot! Cheers, been here since 2017!
You should check out some of the reviews by Mac Jeffries over at roadtrailrun.com . I think it's hard for Seth to truly know how a shoe will work for a large runner. (I'm only about 160 lbs, but I have larger wider feet, so I usually love all the uppers that Seth complains about - especially from New Balance).
Aaron Schinkowitch I know it sounds silly but I gave up on road train run. They compared Nike tempo next% to saucony endrorphin shift for weight and performance rather then comparing them to endorphin speeds. Makes me feel like they don’t know what they are doing.
QD: I raced a 1500m at a small club track meet in Ontario, Canada. It went pretty well, I ran my second fastest time ever (5:13) and it was my first race of the season.
QD Decent 14 mile long run. I have a smaller half marathons in two weeks here in Richmond Virginia. Limited to 500 participants starting in waves of 16 people every two minutes. Looking forward to it since it’s my first race since January.
Your reviews keep getting better. Looks like the base in the midsole under the arch got wider. Which I like. Reminds me of the original Saucony Kinvara.
Jami M.’s review states that the earliest pairs released were FF, but that the later ones (which should apply to this point in time) are supposed to be FFX.
This video at the 37:00 mark, Robbie reads an email directly from New balance. Saying fresh foam X is NOT a foam technology, but a collection of foams and the beacon 3 is part of the x collection...a different twist on fresh foam...so I guess technically it si both fresh foam and fresh foam x :-) instagram.com/tv/CDmOXHVnky5/?
QD: Good, hard long run. 14.5 miles on a very hilly trail with some pretty technical sections. Longest run in several months, and by far the most elevation gain. But, legs feel surprisingly good today.
QD: Cut my long run short. I had planned to do 19 km, but I decided at the 5 km point that 10 km was enough for the day. Two reasons for this: the bruise under my heal from the rock I stomped on on my trail run on Saturday and the heat. It was too damn hot. I was due for a lower volume week anyway. 37 km last week. Down from the 50-60km per week I have been running regularly this summer.
I bought the Beacon V1 after wathing your review. I subsiquently bought the V2 as most other shoes did not fit my wide feet. I am happy to hear the V3 is still quite wide, a drawback for you but a positive for me :)
QD: Couple weeks ago I switched up my LR routine and do back-to-back medium LRs instead of one long effort, which during the heat of the summer left me too spent in my opinion. A half (13ish miles) on Sat, and 16-18mi on Sun appears to be the sweet spot to be well recovered on Monday despite the temperatures. In regards to your feet: Firstly, I think the most valuable information is to stand on the removed insoles. I submit that despite the general rule for a wide enough shoe, most people's feet overlap their shoes' insoles quit a bit, meaning that their shoes are technically too narrow. And secondly, the thumb width in front of your toes is a dicey thing these days with modern shoes and their rockered geometry, and plates. Leaving too much space in the front can result in your balls of your feet being not where the widest part of the shoe is but farther back towards the throat of a shoe. With modern foams and plates you really want your balls of your feet be in that sweet spot to benefit the most of a plate or a rockered technology (formerly known as high toe spring in shoes from Hoka, ASICS, Saucony, Nika, Adidas). And yes, I remember your getting the baby blues in that store with the great service!
One day you should review the New Balance Fuel Core Orange/Black. I have like 15 pairs of them, and would love to see what others thought of them! :P Love your videos man! Watch em every day!
I was watching you back when you got the first Beacon's. I haven't seen them in my area and haven't given them a chance. But they are definitely on the radar. The few shoes I have tried all seem to be those that work well for you. I definitely need to try them out!!
Hi Seth! I been watching way before that time, I have never missed an vlog since I started your journey, it was a great shoe. My girlfriend has the v2 but she's not a runner, she just walks fast and she loves them.
I’m 200 lbs and run on hot S. Florida pavement and concrete and my Beacon V2s didn’t last 150 miles before the exposed tread was worn flat. I really like the comfort and cushioning of the V2s so I hope the outsole is a little more durable.
QD: Long run was great this weekend. Got out on a trail at a State Park near by. 90 mins (1500 ft gain) and picked up the pace for the 1/4. Felt like I had a lot left in the tank. Race in 9 weeks!
I am 223 lbs. I think the Beacon V2 works well for easypace too tempo in 5-15 km range. But have not tried it for longrun in 20-30 km for me. Very light and good when running hills which is the most feared thing for a heavy runner like me. But very much room in toebox and loose upper.
QD: Did a 53km run two weeks ago. Didn't allow enough recovery and was injured the next week. Set a short long run this week (14km) but calf tweaked again at 8km so had to walk the last 6km.
QD: Long run went super well. I ran at Waterton Canyon all the way to the dam. The way up was a little rough, but on the way back felt super floaty in the Freedom 3s- set a 10k PR!
New Balance matrix! I love NB shoes. Take care, Seth! Also, based on my experience in the 1080v10, the fresh foam x definitely takes 10-12 miles to truly break in. Definitely gets a bit softer as you go (in a good way!)
Palmer Madson I agree based on my NB 880’s v10. It’s gotten more enjoyable the more I run in it, not that it wasn’t also enjoyable out of the box. But (fortunately) I don’t think it will ever be mushy-soft, which is something I dislike.
@@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 Could not agree more! After my first couple runs in the 1080v10, the cushioning really opened up and immensely improved. no mushiness or excessive softness (have clifton 7s for that), but perfect responsiveness. Great shoe.
QD: I ran in a race that was a warm up for high school cross country teams. They allow us old folks to run too though. I did pretty good overall, but it showed me where I am when compared to some of the best in my area.
I purchased 3 pairs of the Beacon 1s and im glad i did as the upper is much better fitting than the new versions, especially in the toe box. I get the feeling Seth thinks the same. NB have tried to be too clever here by making the shoe more gimmicky.
QD: long run was my first in this training block. Enjoyed some cooler temps in VA. I went farther and faster than I had planned, but with those cool temps I didn't want to stop.
I didn’t realize that I have been watching the channel for 2 years and I also have a second toe longer then the first, I think it’s quite a regular thing
Love beacon still wearing my V1's now just for walking but damm!!! They are so comfty, I skip the v2 (cause the v1 where still on good shape) but definitely getting the V3, beacon it's an all time favorite 😁
As a fellow 6”2 , 210 pound runner I would also love your thoughts on shoes-if any. And obviously not taking your thoughts to literal but as something to ponder. Thanks Seth love your work.
Some big foot dude suggested it's not making much difference with the shoe vs. weight if you're heavy and sizing also large. I used to be 6'1" and 225lbs but leaning out to be only 195lbs and I'm wearing US13, just heard it's completely other thing to wear US9 being +200lbs. Still after all I feel firm cushion being better than soft, thought recently I've been having good experience with butter soft Asics Novablast ☺️
I started running in Beacon V2s as 6’ 225lbs, and strongly recommended them. Especially if you need wider sizes, the toe box is spacious. Highly recommended, over 100 miles on my V2
QD: Long run was 35km at 4:15/km (about 6:25/mile) after a solo 5km time trial on Saturday of 17:48. Working on marathon endurance speed towards my goal of sub 2:55 marathon (M45 age group qualification for Berlin Marathon).
Heres my bone to pick with new balance, if they really found where all runners ware down their outsoles, that outsole psttern would be on all their shoes. Theyre just trying to bring down the weight of the beacon. I would sacrifice weight for durability
Hi Seth. Nice review, thanks. For the V1, after 330 miles, there are actually very little signs of wearing-off on the outsole and the shoe remains quite soft and responsive at the same time. I assume I can easily do another 200-300k in them before switching to the already purchased v2. The upper of the V2 seems indeed a bit stiffer but we will see. Cheers.
Hey Seth. You should make a video comparing gusseted tongues and non-gusseted tongues where you talk about your preference and the pros and cons of both.
Hello seth! I hope you would inlcude the thumb test on every running shoes that you will review in the future. Word like "true to size", "spacious toe box" are very relative but doing a thumb test like that me a more concrete idea about thw sizing of a shoe. Good job seth!
QD: After 83,09km last week I reduced to 69.91km this week, around 1800m+, longrun (trail) was on saturday, 18.60km with 960m+, sunday 2nd rest day with swimming and cliff jumping with a little bit of granite scrambling (in swimming shorts and barefoot). GREETINGS FROM SALZBURG/AUSTRIA!!!
Long run was pretty good. I usually check my watch once I get past the 10k mark and on this run I didn’t. I did have it covered with a sweat armband so I was running more on feel. I’m not fast but I managed to stay at 10 min/mile. After losing 100 lbs in 18 months, I feel like I’m getting better but need to continue to learn to get faster.
Tweener shoes like this are nice to see and I think they’re great. Probably not going to pick one up because I’m able to afford different shoes for different tasks and I would prefer to buy shoes that are great for their purpose instead of being good for multiple. (For example having a heavier shoe for daily training and something really light like the Rebels for fast days).
Great review. Thanks! But what is the matter with 2hrs+- runs? Planning to run a 45k-roadultra in them which will probably take me 3,5 to 4 hrs. Bad idea or managable in my beacons?
I had the Beacon 1 but in B&W. I considered the baby blues, but that shoe was a little short for me so I eventually donated it. Does anyone else find themself between sizes in some NB models? I had the same problem with the Fuel Cell Rebel. And I start by going up 1/2 size in all running shoes from my street-shoe size. However, the NV 880 v10 fits me fine in my usual running shoe size. The running shoes that have fit me in my street shoe size include all adidas and HOKA’s so for me they run longer in general, as a brand. Martha
Does anyone else’s significant other wonder how you can watch running shoes reviews every day as part of your daily morning routine? 🤣
DGR ☕️ club! 👍🏻
So grateful you’re here Joseph
Sometimes while watching those, my wife even dares to ask me, if I don't have enough running shoes... Unbelievable... :)

Been interested in this shoe the past couple weeks and have been looking forward to this video. Good morning everyone!
QD: Finally, I won the race this Saturday for the first time in this year :-) 10k road village race in 34:28 (little hilly, 150m elev.gain), 12 seconds better than last year ;-)

Congratulations!
QD: First live race of 2020 this past weekend! Ran a 5K in PA! Placed 5th overall. It was nice to get back out there and run a real race.
I like that you've included the amount of time instead of just mileage
Shoutout from Singapore! There's quick a fair bit of us watching your reviews RELIGIOUSLY!

Hey Seth .. Completed my first half marathon yesterday. It was the Seawheeze Virtual Half Marathon. Slightly slower than you though 😃😉

Yep I remember the baby blues! You had around 1,000 subscribers when I started watching. Really enjoy watching 🙏👊🏻😎🏃
I asked for the beacon v1 for Christmas in 2018 bc of your vlogs 😂
I have my first cross country race of the season on Friday. Super excited, hoping to break into 16:30s
I really enjoy your videos Seth. Keep up the good work. I'm really looking forward to your 50 mile review of the Beacon V3.
Compare this vs NB Prism....I remember the ladies baby blue. You’ve come a long way and can’t wait to be watching when you hit 100k and beyond! Stay healthy!
Yeah Seth i remember you was so happy about this breakthrough 🙏🏻👍🏻💪🏻 being a Raider fan myself. Good luck this year with no preseason 🤔
The beacon is such a good shoe
Wrong
Chuck Cartee maybe not for u
I absolutely love my beacon v2. I got my half marathon PB in them and they are extremely versatile! I am looking forward to getting v3!
Been here since 3000 subscribers. So proud of you Seth you’re such an inspiration 💪🏼 keep it up man!!!
QD: taking a break, no LR
Love the beacons, used the v1 for a 10 mile mountain road race because they were light, pretty responsive, affordable, and cushioned enough to handle the pounding of a long/steep road downhill.
I’m loving my v1’s as well. I think I’m going to skip on the v3 and look for another pair of v1 or v2
Yeah I remember Baby Blues .. haha - That long second toe has a name "Morton's Toe" - The v3 could use another rubber pod right on the toe.
I bought the Beacons after seeing your "baby blues" review and now have been through three pairs of them!
been here for the notorious “BABY BLUES”!!!!
watched everyone of your videos for the past 2 and half years!!!!
You running in the v1 got me to buy, and run in, my first NB ever! Loved v1, hated v2 so I'm a bit tepid on v3 but I think we'll give them a shot! Cheers, been here since 2017!

Found the channel when searching for NB Beacon (OG) reviews way back when. The shoe wasn't for me, but loving the channel!
I’m addicted to watching your videos

Finally got my hands on these beacons, they are really nice. They state fresh foam x on the midsole and tongue of the shoe.
It’s Fresh Foam X
@@prod1gy305 Uh... every other reviewer (including NB website) says it's regular FF

The 1080v10 midsole looks similar in appearance to the beacon v3 but it feels different underfoot. Either way, it's a good shoe.

Still after all I feel firm cushion being better than soft, thought recently I've been having good experience with butter soft Asics Novablast ☺️
I'm not sure of his weight, but check out the FOD runner. I know he's real tall and has large feet. He reviews a ton of shoes including the becon.
@@robertmorano2372 FOD is 190lbs actually he is the dude who advised me to be not too worried about weight on the large shoe.
@@19Kamau79 he's been a great resource for me.
Good Monday morning!!
Heres my bone to pick with new balance, if they really found where all runners ware down their outsoles, that outsole psttern would be on all their shoes. Theyre just trying to bring down the weight of the beacon. I would sacrifice weight for durability
ran a 5k pr in these on my first run, shame they wore out so quickly
in the v3?
Shoes will perform for heavier runners, we just don't get anywhere near your mileage predictions!
Started running a year ago. These were my first shoes. And I'm on my 6th pair now! Cant wait to get this version
Also first video I watched from Seth.
I remember the baby blues, love that shoe!!!
Great review. Thanks! But what is the matter with 2hrs+- runs? Planning to run a 45k-roadultra in them which will probably take me 3,5 to 4 hrs. Bad idea or managable in my beacons?
Just love the V1 and bought fuelcell rebel to change. Love thoses New balance !
My 2nd toe is also the longest. I was told when i was younger that means you will be a fast runner :)
Yeah my second toe is the longest on both my feet also
I had the Beacon 1 but in B&W. Martha
Great review 👍 hey I'm 6"8 and 265lbs .. would I destroy the Clifton 7 ??
Would be interested in a comparison between this and the Pegasus 37, since they are in the same price range
Yes! I had the same thought.
