Thank you for this well-thought out process.
For those struggling to learn Blender, I have a suggestion. Cut down on the YT procedural tutorials and use that time to understand the details of the program. Don’t eliminate tutorials, but cut back and read the sections of the manual that apply to your situation. Digest the information you read and experiment to fully grasp it.
For example, I have some models I’ve imported for a huge scene I’m working on. Some models are nearly a million faces, and Blender is choking. Rather than Google a solution, I remembered reading about the decimate modifier in the manual. I pulled up that page in the manual, learned the 3 different methods, and really absorbed the differences. Planar worked best for me because it uses angle constraints, which is perfect for the vehicles I was trying to crush.
Point is, you can do the same for every speed bump you come across without relying on someone else (videos).
Of course, business and career advice like this video are pure gold, and well worth the time spent. Thank you, Smeaf!

Focus on 1 and then branch off with other high income skills whenever you become CONSISTENTLY
      competent in your niche.
UNPLANNED: I used to film, shoot photos, and edit skateboarding content with my friends and eventually developed
      a much better creative mindset.
Managed a Firehouse Subs for about 10 years and learned how to be a better leader overtime while managing 100+ responsibilities.
During that time, I studied the ecommerce industry and clocked in 100s of hrs learning marketing to increase my potential to launch a successful dropshipping store.
Then I sold manufactured homes and learned sales on the front and backend of business.
Which I believe is one of the most beneficial skills someone can learn.
      (Without predatory tactics)
Got laid off my last job due to Southwire closing down one of their zip tie factories in my city.
Made it through the lowest low I've experienced...
Decided to go after a career in Data Analytics. I felt like it was the most interesting option while having the
lowest barrier for entry due to the certification route being a much quicker, cheaper, and pretty solid starting salary.
ALL THIS TO SAY...I was too depressed and frustrated with my failures that I didn't that realize my skills and experience are extremely compatible...
I developed a powerhouse of skills that have incredible value when utilized properly.
Big business, small mom & pop shops, or just an average person that needs help trying to sell their things on online/FB marketplace.
I'm so thankful that I didn't just waste years of my life on high hopes, with little to show for.
Never stop investing in yourself. Plenty of free information on OLE UA-cam University, ChatGPT, Reddit, etc.
Make yourself valuable to others by solving problems, selling a product that people want/need, and don't
do what I did and Rambo through life without taking time to (HONESTLY) evaluate your current position.
I highly recommend an actual list of priorities that lay out a plan so have proper directions to achieve your goals.
      Treat each step like stairs.
You build up momentum faster when you can visually see progress being made.
Not lecturing you on things you might already know.
I feel like this is an important topic. Hopefully shine a light on a blind spot that many people seem to not be that aware of.
You don't know, what you don't know.
      Until you know it...
Good luck my friend on your endeavors! 😁🤙

Just a bit of inside info for you, I worked on commercial animations with Blender for a few years using a 2014 iMac, we made quite a bit of money during that time.
Point being that not having a good computer won’t prevent you making money with Blender, thinking that you need one will!
3D is not actually that taxing on a computer, or rather it doesn’t need to be.
If you’ve seen the movie ‘The Matrix’ from 1999, the CGI was rendered on computers with Pentium III CPUs (400mhz clock speed).

@@btn237 alright. I’m already pretty familiar with that but for blender I use a computer that’s in my living room and we play movies or show on it to the big screen. And my dad only lets me sleep at 10 which is something I’m not complaining about exactly. So having my own computer in my own bedroom where if I can’t fall asleep at exactly 10 or earlier, I can hop on without any distractions or having my dad say to go to sleep. And I can just work on whatever I am working on in blender until i either get tired or feel like this is a good enough time to sleep now. But thanks for the info anyway!

Great video! Everything explained in a fun (and very logical analogy... trust me) and clear story to make something as broad and complicated as this easier to understand. I do have some questions though, how long / how many hours per day or week do you invest into these kinds of projects? And what do the companies expect?
As a fulltime student it could be hard finding the right balance between time and other priorities.
And I can imagine a company wanting to have a project finished within maybe a month or sooner, do you have a trick of recognizing "impossible" and/or realistic projects based of off your own skills? Knowing what you're able to do and or not?
Loving the content, keep em coming! :)

Hi man, thank you so much for creating this video. I am a freelance 3d designer and animator based in amsterdam, working almost 7 years as a freelancer. Most of my clients are Ad agencies, because I have worked in that field before my freelance career. Through the I work for A-brands. Sometimes it feels like I need to stop freelancing, but looking at this video it reminds me to continue doing what I love. I am currently trying to switch from having ad agencies as clients to have more (small) brands as my clients, so that I can charge more. I feel often the lowest on the stack, if that makes sense. Thanks for the tips. I subscribed. Looking forward to see more from you. Cheers, Ruben!

The thing that's so lovely about this video is that, I'm trying to learn about Minecraft so i can play with my older son and I'm also trying to find a little hustle because I've got no income due to illness so i learnt two things at once here lol! I believe the SMEAF method could work for any business idea. Thanks for sharing and making it so fun. This actually made Minecraft make sense for me lol!

Thank you for the video, you've mentioned a few more methods for finding clients at 10:50, as someone who is more oriented on making some pocket money with Blender I would love to hear more about the approach that does not require full-time involvement, as building client network does sound like quite a business. Please give your peace of advice to those who consider 3D modeling a 2nd source of income, thank you!

applicable to so many small businesses. Nice!
I don't care what your work is, 3D or otherwise, it is always obvious to you the artist/provider what your client needs/could benefit from. It's all about convincing them that your work/service is worth it. Outside of 3D I can speak from experience that you really need to ask 1000 companies, get use to hearing "NO". Then all of a sudden, a single company starts paying some bills and then oh my god their referral got me more business and sooner or later with tons of work you end up saying no to good money because you literally don't have time. Or raising your prices. I learned blender to make my company look better in promo material and it's so dumb how just looking better results in a massive increase in business. same ingredients, same service, same program whatever right? people shop with their eyes and you need to convince businesses of that...for some reason. There are so many businesses out there, small and large that would benefit from animation and/or static scenes. Just show them that they're idiots for not hiring you.
