Your videos are proof that our inner city waterways are cleaner than most people think. I live south of Cleveland, Ohio and fish the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland. The fishing is awesome. We catch smallmouth bass, yellow perch, white perch, black crappie, walleyes, and sheepheads.
If you want the big ones you've got to use big bait. Minnows big enough so the 8 and 9 inch perch aren't interested. That's how we used to get the jumbos off the piers in west Michigan. The action wasn't as fast, but the catch was consistently eye popping.
I'm going to try going out there for the first time next week but I've never fished on Lake Michigan before. I've seen posts suggesting a crappie rig with live minnows or crawfish chunks, or a spoon with a minnow head or something called spikes which I think are the same thing as waxies? What would you recommend? And is there a setup that could get me a chance of both perch and a trout? I've never caught a laker before either.
Thank you so much for your support and I'm sorry I'm getting back to you so late! I'm going to try to continue my videos soon, just not exactly sure when. Just looking for ideas on how to make more valuable videos instead of just people watching me fish. I'll come back one day soon! Thank you so much for all your support I really appreciate it!
Up here in SE Wisco most people don't fish for them anymore. We can only keep 5. Miss catching those porkers off of the breakwall in Racine. We wouldn't keep them unless they were 11" or better. I got a 17 1/2" once.
@@ViolettaTalley Mine too. I get into some good ones from time to time fishing Geneva. Something about a perch.........just so pretty and delicious! I'm gonna try the kastmaster and chicken idea up here in Milwaukee. I'll let you know if it works.
The Wisconsin DNR has been doing studies all up and down Lake Michigan and has been finding that perch populations along the Wisconsin shorelines have been sharply declining since 1990. Some years they fail to find any perch at all in their studies. Really interesting to see literally hundreds of them in this footage alone.
Last year we were using cut bait but it looks like the DNR changed the rule on that in late 2018 and we cannot use it anymore. I would recommend you do not use cut bait and stick with minnows, worms, or even raw chicken which worked really well for me.
Rama krishna kalapala the only fish that I saw in the underwater footage was of course perch, schools of shad, and an occasional lake trout. If you see any other species, let me know!
tonylou1234 thank you so much for watching! When I went perch fishing for the first time last year, I saw someone put a camera down there and saw how thick it was with perch. When I put my camera down the other day for this video, I was hoping for the same footage and saw that it was even better! I'm glad I could share it with all of you so you can all see what it's like!
I use to perch fish the lake back in the 70's-80's. I fished mainly from the old armory pier (which is gone now) up to Oak St. Beach off the concrete. Olive Park terrace was a hot spot back then. We would catch 100 a day sometimes. We would use a seine in the Des Plains river and catch soft shell crawfish and pinkies with maggots for bait.
Park in the West Garage anytime between 5am and 10am to get the "fisherman's rate" of $6, but you have to be out by 10am and need to show the parking attendant your fishing license to get the rate.
Juan Macias I have heard reports that lately that the perch have moved out into deep water, but a few people here and there are catching them in various Harbor locations, but it's very rare.
Juan Macias thank you so much for subscribing and watching! I should have some more videos coming soon, and then I will make sure to try to get videos up every week or more often.
I have not been out there lately, but I hear from others that you need to bring something to break the ice 10 feet down. I use a gym weight tied to a thick rope and have seen others use boat anchors.
I have never tried Andes.... where can I buy it? I use something similar to Shore Lunch that I found at a local Fishing Show called Craigers Breading. It's light, seasoned very well and only needs the moisture already on the fish to coat it, no eggs or flour necessary! So far it's my go-to, but I am always willing to try new things!!! Thank you!!!
Very nice Vidieo Violetta!👍😉 "That's It were going Fishing" sent me over! Really enjoyed the under water footage of that massive wall of Perch! Very cool... and I hate "adulting" too! 😄
Thank you so much for watching my video! "That's It We're Going Fishing" has been a great inspiration and I am grateful to have the chance to fish with him and his friends on several occasions.
Rich Shackelford thank you so much for watching! The only fish that tou mentioned that i have the least amount of experience catching is walleye. I'm hoping to find them ice fishing if we have good ice this year.
cody waligursky I'm actually in the northwest suburbs, near Elgin. I mostly fish on the fox and sometimes local ponds, but mostly kayak fish the river.
Awesome job and that guy keeping over his limit is a huge problem up here in Waukegan. Extremely annoying to pay for a fishing license to watch people do this so regularly. The DNR presence is a myth in these parts and when they are around they don’t even seem to care about anything except if you have a license. Sorry to rant LOL great video.
+Fishing POV there were two DNR officers walking around, they were just glancing and buckets and not really asking for licenses. Are there perch up there in Waukegan by you guys?
Violetta Talley there used to be, but not sure haven’t went perching in years. That’s looked like a blast I’m out here still hunting LMB LOL thinking I may have seen my last one a couple weeks ago till next season. LOL
I wish there were more DNR officers too! Unfortunately, they are stretched too thin and can't be everywhere, so we have to do our best to help educate other fisherman on the laws and do it respectfully. However, if there are anglers out there who continue to break the law willfully, we can only report them to the DNR and hope that justice is served somehow.
Cool footage but you should keep it to yourself. If everyone keeps making these stupid videos it'll be way more of a zoo than it already is. Why do people have to brag about everything? Just fish, have fun and keep it to yourself, you don't have to try to be "the guy" on youtube.
Daryll Beanfang I understand where you're coming from, but I'm trying to provide a service and build a following because I have a lot of things coming down the pipeline in the future. I'm trying to provide a service for people through my UA-cam channel and it's something that I'm passionate and I really enjoy doing it. I am planning much bigger things in the future that I think a lot of people will be interested in and will benefit from. I'm not trying to brag and if I come across that way, I apologize. I just want people to enjoy my videos, learn, and come back because there are bigger things coming and I will be partnering up with a lot of amazing people to provide more for the people in the UA-cam Community.
cool seeing under water videos thanks
Great video!
Very good video lots of info thank you.😊😊😊😊😊. The guy that ran😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That underwater footage is breathtaking!!! I know that it probably isnt like this down there now but still so incredible!!!
Glad to see the DNR was there! too many people go over the limit
That underwater footage was just insane! Soooo many fish
Crazy underwater footage, so sweet
violetta saw your great video, what do u think of fishing the rocks around by olive park by the filter plant?
Your videos are proof that our inner city waterways are cleaner than most people think. I live south of Cleveland, Ohio and fish the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland. The fishing is awesome. We catch smallmouth bass, yellow perch, white perch, black crappie, walleyes, and sheepheads.
Well said! Every time I tell people about fishing the lakefront or Chicago River, they react in the same way!
Awesome underwater footage
Thank you very much!!!!
Wow!!
What size kastmaster is that?
I believe it's a 1/8 oz
Thanks

Great video! Can you catch perch there in September?
Thanks!
Yes you can perch in September but I am not sure how the bite is that time of year.
Did you say you are using..."cut bait" for perch? Thanks

Hey... any idea about the other type of fish that we see in the underwater footage?? Good Video and nice presentation
Rama krishna kalapala the only fish that I saw in the underwater footage was of course perch, schools of shad, and an occasional lake trout. If you see any other species, let me know!
Okay, its shad. Thank you.

I know I’m late but do perch have a season in Chicago and if so when? I’d really enjoy fishing off navy pier and don’t know Chicago regulations
Great video. What editing software do you use?
I use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the actual video and photoshop to do any titles or images that I add into the video
Nice informative video specially under water footage which was amazing ! Are they exist there all around the year ? Thanks
wow great footage..question what type of line are you using?
I was using 6lb P-Line Flouroclear on my ultralight and 8lb P-Line Flouroclear on my other rod. Thank you for watching!

Hey Violetta did you quit making videos?
Great video and nice catches at this month of February the people's still fishing perch???

Are those Asian carp swimming around down there as well?
No, there are no asian carp in Lake Michigan (or they THINK there are none)... those fish are shad.
They look like Asian carp to me too. Specifically the silver Asian Carp.
awesome
Nice video

Very Nice. I am still trying to catch a 16 inch perch....(biggest so far was 14", caught many 10-12 inchers last weekend)
16" is huge! I don't think I have ever caught anything over 14"
Congrats on the views for this video! Nice video

Is the water open by navy peir

Those trout were likely keyed in on the shad
You are probably correct!!!!
