Edward Weston once remarked " Composition is the strongest way of of seeing." It surpasses all other considerations. The point is no photographer could see the photo and compose, if that finger does not lift from the shutter button, and give the eye a chance to engage with the brain. Some very good advice. Well done.

I appreciate the fstop and the clarity slider advice; the irony is you shoot at 1.2 or 1.8 because youve been told its the cool thing to do, then crank up the clarity slider in post, not realizing if you had shot at say 2.8 or f4 for better focus, you wouldn't need to use the slider at all. Great video!

When you said just bc someone else has all the followers doesn't mean they're any different than you! That hit me. I beat myself up bc I don't have them all and although I see beautiful images when I look at my work, I get doubtful of myself when I post to my IG and realize only 250 people are looking and only 125 are liking.
I'm focusing on m likes instead of my love for photography! Concentrating on intention will reward more!
Definitely needed this. New follower from Huntsville, Al! 😊

One thing that I appreciate you as a content creator and as a photographer is that you out of all should have more subscribers, but you are still happy with what you got and leaning towards the ones with even smaller follower counts, replying to comments and actualy BEING THERE for your audience.

Some genuinely good points here that certainly resonate with me. I think the greatest learning experience I had was buying a 35mm point and shoot camera. Shooting on film forced me to shoot less. I would never take the same photo twice - if the shot doesn’t work, it doesn’t work and every shot was literally costing me so I made sure they were worth it. Also being limited to a single focal length on an automatic camera forced me to focus on composition and light and not think about camera technicalities. I think I learnt more in one year of shooting like that, that I wouldn’t have if I immediately bought a manual SLR camera. Then when I upgraded to one, Looking for light and composition came more naturally allowing me to focus on camera settings and becoming intentional with my choices.

I was at a friend's wedding once and the photographer was old school. I couldn't believe he was just firing off single shots on his Canon 1Dx. He obviously started on film and knew he was capturing the right moments.
I would have been burst moding the whole event 😅

Great vid! Can only applause the tips! Overshooting is still a struggle for me, though, it is a blessing and curse when it comes to wildlife photography, as those moments you want to capture can truely be seen for just a split second. But with other genres I really trying to stop my overshooting. This is partly due to my lac of focus on composition… so i hope you will do a video on composition - especially for interior and environmental portraits! Good work as always!

I absolutely love what you said about the tool. I have mostly shot on an iphone and feel i have gotten pretty good with it. I just literally purchased the Canon 90d and received it a couple days ago. i'm a little nervous about it but excited at the same time cause there is so much more to technically learn now. I just don't want that to get in the way of the actual photo. There's always room for growth with what and how you photograph something. I feel i'm always learning through yours and others videos and then getting out there so that will never end but i felt gear wise i was ready for a change. But you can bet your bottom dollar i will always still use my phone too. I feel like it's the underdog in a lot of photographers opinions and i just like proving them wrong. lol Excellent video Sir. Really enjoyed it and got a lot from it.

This is Great Advice for all photographers old and new. Talking about "Committing to your Composition"" What are your thoughts on Vivian Maier ?? I recently watched the documentary on her and as you said, focus on your work, not Social media, and she certainly did that to the extreme. I know she was not a Landscape photographer, but just wondered what you think of her work as she never really knew a 'Digital' world or any photo editing. (Also I'm about to start scanning all of my B&W negs from the 80's of London 🙂📸 so I will put up some videos of them on my channel later this year as her work really inspired me to look back on my old street photography.

      I’ll chip in.
I’m not sure what her hit rate was, there’s 100,000 photos or so and it’d be hard to not get a banger occasionally. And I know some would try to detract from her perceived talent however I think she’s a goddess, truly devoted to the cause 🫡

I am 100% digital but I shoot like I only have 3 roll of 36 with me.
3 frames at a time. I still know by muscle memory when 8 frames are done then 18, 28 then count down to 36.
After thousands of rolls it just never goes away.

I bet, when I started it was just at the end of modern film cameras. I had a Minolta something or other which was fun but didn’t have the vibe of classic cameras.
I went to film school though and we shot everything on super 16, it was a dream dropping the cans off at soho images and getting them back digitised.
