    Keith is in a class of his own, even just taking No Moon At All as an example - a standard played like a Bach 2 part invention with lines improvised in the left in response to the right hand, and then a walking bass totally swinging with fantastic, heartfelt and bebop derived lines above that. It doesn't get any better.

    The ecstatic jubilation of sirening swifts, whistling aloft, perfectly offsets Jarrett’s intro.
    Happy birthday, master. You are dearly loved.

    Tim Bruer, my sentiments exactly. If ECM has a recording of this concert in the vaults they should be forced to release it! Jarrett’s versions here of Sophisticated Lady, No Moon at All, and Autumn Nocturne are beyond incredible

      I agree with you. The entire performance merits being published. In my opinion, this is one of KJ's best concerts.

    Incredible!
    Classic piano solo way by Keith Jarrett, it's possible and for the best!
    I will come back if this vidéo is still here. Thank you for this good surprise Mr TSOKJ

      Plein de bonnes choses et à bientôt... dans la nature.

    Keith Jarrett had a special artistic relationship with Juan-les-Pins Festival. I saw him many times in different places, including Paris. He was never better (except Japan) than in JLP. I remember one of his concerts in 1998 (I believe): it was magical !

    The quality of the recording is WAY beyond the bootlegs you normally hear: a master tape "borrowed" from the ECM vault perhaps?

    • @thesoundofcontemporarymusi3196
      @thesoundofcontemporarymusi3196  2 роки тому +1

      Impossible : ECM is very strict about publishing rights.

      To consider this recording a master tape from ECM's vault is an affront to ECM. The compression of this recording is absolutely indiscussable. Anyone who thinks this is ECM standard has no idea of ECM's bench-marking sound quality.

    • @jazztemple2
      @jazztemple2 2 роки тому

      @@hvanngil9575 Sorry my ears aren't as good as yours. And, personally, an "affront to ECM"? And, I do NOT know what you mean by the compression of this recording being "indiscussable". Everything is discussble. And, it is entirely possible that i have "no idea of ECM's bench-marking sound quality". Maybe i am thinking more about the music than the sound. I am pissed at Jarrett, I guess, more than ECM, since I am guessing that it is he who has the final word on what of his gets released and what doesn't, but I have been to a NUMBER of live solo piano concerts that were FAR better than the some of the ones Jarrett/ECM has chosen to release. Maybe Jarrett and I just don't agree on which Jarrett playing is the best since, though Jarrett is to me a genius, and my favorite musician in the world, there is actually stuff he has released that is.........inferior to what he is capable of.

      @@hvanngil9575 I agree, ECM would, not only, ever release this, they would have never used soooo much compression. Eicher always strives for a naturalistic and completely dynamic rendering in most ECM recordings of this nature. However, haha..... I do think this a very good "bootleg" recording despite the terrible compression levels. At least, for me, I am able to really hear all the notes very clearly and am able to transcribe the notes easier than other bootlegs. I'm working on Sophisticated Lady. I've never heard him do a solo rendition....its marvelous! 🙂

    Transcendent! Thank you!!! This is immediately one of my favorites. Keith is out exploring the cosmos in the improvisation on this one -- and the cosmos is exploring him. Is it even remotely possible to decompress this recording, to open up the sound, give it space and make it more natural? (I apologize for my naive question; I am certainly no sound engineer.)

    • @thesoundofcontemporarymusi3196
      @thesoundofcontemporarymusi3196  2 роки тому +3

      A person could answer you. He certainly has the recording. Probably, he owns the rights. It's Manfred Eicher.
      In fact, compressed sound cannot be restored unless if you have the original.
      Thanks for your interest.

      Merci quand même... En fait pendant longtemps j'avais un son sur K7 via une élève mais c'était de très mauvaise qualité... Enfin pas assez pour ne pas se rendre compte de la qualité exceptionnelle du concert... Car si on le remet dans son contexte, de notre point de vue KJ n'avait à l'époque pas joué de standards en solo et en public...!
