Thanks for clarifying that the larger Ah batteries are indeed just a little bit stronger. I've noticed this myself with certain higher-drain devices like my palm sander. It works much better off a 4Ah battery than a 2Ah. My impact/drill drivers work fine off the smaller capacity batteries.

I was trying to figure out what size of battery we needed for a bicycle generator project and now I know and I understand much more about Ah and batteries. 😊 I put off building a bicycle generator for years because all the different electronic parts were intimidating and confusing to me. Then my son was gifted a very nice motor to use to build such a project and I needed to dive in and figure it all out. A 7 Ah deep cycle battery should be plenty large enough. Phew, one more thing off the check list!

Now I do imagine that using "amp hours" in that part of your explanation might have been intentional to make it easier for some, but that could cause a bit of confusion since "ah" really doesn't fundamentally tie into circuit terminology. Simplified analogy: Volts = size of gas tank. Amp hours = amount of fuel in the tank. Watt hours = Volts x Amp hours = hour far you can drive on a single tank.
No. Volts is the power the tool can output. It’s more like engine displacement or torque than anything. Amp hours is just a capacity measurement. It is the capacity of the tank or as you put it the size of the tank. Voltage has nothing to do with the size of the battery capacity. A 20v battery will always be a 20v battery regardless of whether it’s charged or not. It is capable of powering a 20v device. With that said, you can get a more accurate idea of battery capacity multiplying the ah and the voltage. 4000 ah battery with 12 volts will give 36000 Wh but an 1800 ah battery with 20 volts will also give 35000 Wh. The 20 volt tool will eat through the power faster though.
Good video, and grazes a broader topic I'm always trying to understand more about as a beginner woodworker: the electrical side of woodworking (extension cord gauge, amps/hp/watts/voltage, lithium ion battery care, etc.). I struggle to know what's a safe level of power to draw from a regular outlet and when my breakers will trip. Perhaps a video some day on the basics of the electrical side of woodworking for people who don't use a 220v setup? Seems like you have a good understanding of the topic. Thanks!

Ok, I figured that out and it makes sense. Explain now brushed vs. Brushless why and is it only new technology as to why we have less brushed tools, what was the purpose. Was one style more powerful or was it only due to the differences in technology....if that makes eense

Bought a Metabo 5.2ah battery to work on a 18v cool box mainly ans for other Metabo tools that’s revelry acquired. The 5.2ah is not sufficient enough at all to sustain the cool box in the height of summer so will be getting a 10ah battery which costs a lot but should supply the box with enough juice for treble the time.
Hi i have an ingco drill with 2ah batteries, and i recently bought an ingco grass cutter which use the same battery, and after 4 to 5x of used the batteries dont charge as much as before. Before when i use the grass cutter it takes around 20mins before it drains but now only 5mins, it killed my batteries, do i need to use a higher ah for the grass cutter? Thank u so much

But I'm wondering if I can use my 40 vote for him our battery in the leaf vacuum. Same manufacturer same connections same voltage different amp hours.

TH is a Thermistor or a thermally sensitive resistor. It's properties change as temperature changes and can limit or increase current dependent on temperature. This is useful in case a battery begins to overheat, the resistance of the Thermistor can increase which will allow less current flow and therefore less heat, protecting the battery.
Hello Was getting ready to buy the 20v dewalt 1/2 brushless cordless drill with either the 1.5 ah batteries or the 2.0 battery. Want to also buy the dewalt 20 volt impact wrench XR894 without/battery for taking lug nuts off 2 cars about 3 times a year. Will the batteries that come with the drill ( either the 1.5 or the 2.0 ) be sufficient for my application ? It seems like I wouldn't need the additional 12% of power in the test/ link you posted. The dewalt 5.0 battery lists at 160.00 but sells for about 120.00 I have a cordless impact 18 volt model dc821 someone gave me years ago but don't like it as it sometimes takes the lugs off and sometimes does not, either way I have to give it power for 20 sec. or so to get it to go. Its rated at 160 ft/lbs Regards
You can use it with the smaller batteries they'll just run out pretty quick. I'm not sure exactly how quick without testing it myself, but, if you don't want to purchase the 5 Ah batteries, you just keep charging them until you make it through!
How come they just won't say how long the battery will last or giving an estimate time on how long a battery lasts because that's the answer that most people want
They are selling DeWalt 20 volt 8 AH replacement batteries that weigh 1.38 lbs. A DeWalt 20 volt 5 AH battery weighs 1.68 lbs and a DeWalt 20 volt 8 AH battery weighs2 lbs. So are these DeWalt 20 volt 8 AH replacement batteries a scam
Your mobile's battery has a 5ah capacity with an output voltage of 3.7V. The tool's battery has an output voltage of 20V. So, the total energy stored in the cell battery is roughly 3.7 x 5 ah = 18.5Wh and the tool battery has 20 x 5 = 100 Wh. If you ran the tool on the cell phone battery it would be a little less than a 1ah battery.

I notice the same with my dewalt tools: circular saw and drill. The tools get bogged down with a 3ah batter as opposed to a 5ah battery.

Yes, but depending on how much it draws it may not last very long. (ex, using a 1.5 ah battery in your cordless weed eater won't last long at all)
