I have been painting with dark blue and dark green colors. I dont care for black but on some pieces it seems best. I love chalk paint i love the smooth soft look it has. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the great ideas. I am loving Fusion Ash (a rich Grey-Black) and Melange One Ponchatrain (deep teal green) these days. I adore dark rich colors! Rather than using a poly to add extra protection on dark colors, I've found adding 2 coats of clear wax, well-buffed, adds a nice sheen...and no streaks!
Diana thanks for sharing your expertise! I love teal, I'll have to check out that color. Is Melange One a "one-step paint"? And do you still find it helpful to seal in some way? (I suspect I might.)😉
Hi Amy. Yes, Melange One is a one step mineral paint from a small mom and pop from Sugarland, Texas. I LOVE Melange paint! I only seal/wax the tops of higher use items like night stands and dressers...more of a "just in case" than a need. In all honesty, I have never had a single problem with chipping from any of the Melange paints once they are cured...it's just me being overly cautious :)
@@dianaweir1107 Yes I am hearing people raving about Melange but I haven't tried it yet so I'm glad to get your review! I live in Texas so I've been eager to try it and support the folks from Sugarland.
Thank you so much for this info, just in time as I have dining chairs that I need to paint a dark grey (Restoleum graphite in satin) or a deep navy blue. So i was wondering to prime or not to prime. Dark primer or zinsser white primer! The chairs have an original dark brown stain on them.
I've really enjoyed this video about the dark colors. I have a question about your FURNITURE PRICING WORKSHEET. What's the difference between the line: LABOR FORMULA and KEYSTONE FORMULA? I don't understand the difference between the two. Looking forward to hearing from you !!! Thanks a lot.
Very informative video Amy! Thanks going over all of this step by step!
You're so welcome! Thanks for your support ;-)
Goop points Amy, especially on no trying to deep sand scuffs, it seems logical but we tend to just go on auto pilot when sanding wood.
Haha Auto Pilot- yes! Got to work on that.

Dark blue and dark green are so stylish now- right on! I'm debating whether to do my bookshelves black or dark blue... Thanks for watching!!

Oh good for you! I hope they turn out great :-)
Timestamps in description. Are you painting any other dark colors besides black? What color?
