If it wasn't for UA-cam I would have never discovered Dinnerladies, such an exceptional series. Anne Reid, Celia Imrie, Julie Walters, exceptional actors in their own right, to which Victoria Wood would bring out their talents. Thank goodness for UA-cam, Victoria will always be preserved.
I just discovered Dinner Ladies and fell into a full on binge of all episodes i could find... now on to her stand ups and enthralled by this incredible talent and woman. And, just now, have learned that she is gone. So saddened!
I too just came upon this remarkable talented woman. This awesome series "Dinerladies" somehow I never knew existed. As an American, and as I worked in London for a year several years ago, I've always totally enjoyed British comedies e. g. Are you being served, Keeping up appearances, Faulty towers, etc. I'm thankful finding the 2 seasons of Dinerladies, still as many fans wishing there were more. Victoria Woods left us far too early, but we cherish her talents allowed us! RIP Ms Woods we miss you!
Try "Victoria Wood As Seen On TV" her series from the 1980s. BBC Also "Wood and Walters" from even earlier. Also her "AN Evening with.." in front of celebrity audience. All wonderful. Her country loved her.
Try "Victoria Wood As Seen On TV" from the 1980s. Also "Wood and WAlters" which was an early series. Also "An Evening with Victoria Wood" There are plenty of recorded live performances out there. Her countrymen loved her very much.@@toddsubjent7142
We still feel her loss. I hope she understood just how loved and admired she was by her audience. There’s a huge gap in the cultural fabric, and I can’t imagine who or when it will be filled. RIP Victoria, truly a giant.
Inept interviewing aside, the fact that VW's untimely death sparked such a national sigh of despair is testament to just what a truly gifted woman she was. It's coming up to 4 years since this beautiful lady left us but folk still refer to it as if it was just yesterday. There likely will never be another in the same league as she.
It's very easy to sneer at Victoria Wood's brand of comedy - it's observational, familiar, cosy and conventional, but in the right hands it can be extremely funny. And she had the right hands, no doubt about that. She drew on iconic comediennes of the past, such as Hilda Baker, Peggy Mount, Joan Miller etc and gave their type of material her own special twist. Nothing radical or challenging, that wasn't her style, she just 'Woodified' it. Occasionally she would plant an outrageous double-entendre and then give it time to fully ripen as the audience fell about. Dinnerladies is IMO probably the best thing she ever did, and she did some mighty fine stuff. A clever and precise writer and performer, she would not settle for anything second best.
And she didn't need to drop swear words all over the place. Her characters were 3 dimensional and "they" came up with the comedy. Such a talented woman
What is it with some people’s obsession with swear words? It was a cosy comedy. Swearing would’ve ruined it. There are plenty of shows that have swearing and it fits in perfectly with the nature of the show.
Still watching Dinner Ladies, it had heart. So many other shows probably wouldn't have happened without it. Finding humour in normal people, we all need to find the funny side of life.
Well said. We have it on DVD and it comes out about once a year as a treat. We sometimes intend to watch only one episode but end up watching the lot. So funny, such well-rounded characters, so much like real workmates. An absolute work of art.
I heard someone at the far end of the office talking about her and remember not wanting to hear what she was saying, as I had a feeling that something had happened to her. When it became clear that she had died, I did not want to believe it. I do miss her.
Gosh I miss her so much. RIP Victoria you make my life better with your humour. I watch Dinnerladies again and again and after watching it my son also now understands your appeal.
Victoria was incredibly talented but we all knew that. When Victoria sang "Let's Do It", I laughed so much I almost cracked a rib. We were lucky to have been around in this great lady's lifetime
Housewife, 49. Awesome. So full, one can watch it over and over and still spot new elements. Once saw her at London Palladium probably around late 80s, early 90s, a one woman show. Humour without any mentioning of swear words, genitalia or anything that comes out of our bodies. (Those topics are worn thin). Before she appeared on the stage that evening, from the wings, she had us laughing out loud.
Those topics aren’t worn thin, they’re just not fit for some style of shows. Swearing and crude comments fit in with other shows that may not be to your taste.
We have lost so many stars in our Era talents that cannot be replaced irreplaceable now the media is a shadow of what it once was we wished we could go back in time to see them all again sadly not who have we got to pick up the pieces none .
Victorias work was never political, never trying to push any social or popular agenda unlike most of the so called comics today who can't hold a cancle to her comedy because here comedy was based on the observation of people, never nasty of cruel just funny. Think about all those comics who have left us and we still love to watch old clips of them they were never political never nasty just funny.
Victoria was wittily, cleverly, intelligently funny, at a time when being vulgar, mean, and smug was much more common. Multi-talented and still a marvel. One of the greats.
She wrote very generously for others too. Dame Thora Hird steals every scene in Pat and Margaret. Very few people allow the limelight to be diverted from them.
Since I worked in restaurant kitchens I get it; the humour, the machines, everything. And I am in the US, so while different, it is similar. It is the combination of her writing and the talent of the cast, the ensemble of actors, that Made Dinnerladies not only a comedy, but most importantly, a show that was worth watching, told with humour. From the inf I have gathered, VW did not want to do a second series, but the first was so popular that she reluctantly came back for season 2. Some feel somewhat letdown by the second series, she gave it a final conclusion, she was onto her next project, her next topic.
Strange that Julie Walters was given a Bafta Fellowshio, but not Victoria Wood. Julie is lovely but probably wouldn't be where she is without Victoria.
Sad but as the scriptures say the Living are conscious that they will die as for the dead thet know nothing at all , Time stays we go we will miss her .
You can tell the pain & upset in Anne's face & body language. So sorely missed.

Such a Fantastic Woman, I still watch the re runs. Best entertainment for uplifting your spirits.

Well said…
@@enrobhcit i still watch Dinnerladies as well. And grew up watching Julie Walters as well with Billy Elliot or Harry Potter
I miss Victoria Wood so much. Luv actress. 1953-2016. 😘😘😘😘😘
Watch Dinner Ladies over and over and still laugh till I cry!
You can see just how upset they all are.
A truly incalculable loss
I heard someone at the far end of the office talking about her and remember not wanting to hear what she was saying, as I had a feeling that something had happened to her. When it became clear that she had died, I did not want to believe it. I do miss her.

One of the very best .Gone far to soon .
Victoria was incredibly talented but we all knew that. When Victoria sang "Let's Do It", I laughed so much I almost cracked a rib. We were lucky to have been around in this great lady's lifetime
Watching tributes like this reminds me just how much talent Victoria Wood had and how much she is still missed.
She was an amazingly talented women ...Always thought we'd be great friends we we ever met xx

Just when we thought that she couldn’t get any cleverer, she goes and wins the BAFTA for best actress in a dramatic role.
Remember this news breaking and i cried & cried 😢 love you Vic and miss you so much . 💔 RIP my lovely xx
I loved Victoria wood she was so brilliant. So sad her life was cut ✂️ short.
Amazing woman. She was such a gift. Loved her so much. X
We have lost so many stars in our Era talents that cannot be replaced irreplaceable now the media is a shadow of what it once was we wished we could go back in time to see them all again sadly not who have we got to pick up the pieces none .
I still miss her dreadfully 🥲☹️
She was brilliant ❤
She was amazing if only I could of met her she was always happy never let anything get her down
What a great tribute to the one an only Victoria Wood .R.I.P Victoria Wood
She was wonderful and talented and funny and I miss her so much.
A good tribute, but spoilt by that bizarre question to Anne Reid about her outliving Victoria. What was he thinking?
Very much missed what a great loss

God Bless Victoria Wood and May She Rest in Peace, XXXX ❤❤

Stan what do you think about Basques . Well . They can’t all be bombing Carparks can they 🥰
Lovely lady
She was a one-off, no one like her, I doubt there will be again
She wrote very generously for others too. Dame Thora Hird steals every scene in Pat and Margaret. Very few people allow the limelight to be diverted from them.
Acorn Antiques pure genius
2:10 Rory Bremner nails it.
As Seen on TV was Vics best stuff
But i didnt get Dinnerladies though (i actually thought it was gonna be about school dinnerladies!)
Since I worked in restaurant kitchens I get it; the humour, the machines, everything. And I am in the US, so while different, it is similar.

What the hell is "stredding water" supposed to mean.
Strange that Julie Walters was given a Bafta Fellowshio, but not Victoria Wood. Julie is lovely but probably wouldn't be where she is without Victoria.
heard of Educating Rita😂😂😂
She got one too
She did get one in 2007 when Acorn Antiques the Musical was opening. Was on TV over Christmas.
She was asked about it but she had to postpone because she was I’ll with cancer….
A lovely tribute only marred by a quote from 'Jenny Éclair' and the presence of Rhona (I'm a lesbian and thats my act) Cameron.
Sad but as the scriptures say the Living are conscious that they will die as for the dead thet know nothing at all , Time stays we go we will miss her .
Joseph and today 😀 TV
Ok nothing out of the ordinary
Had no idea she had died.
