I've owned a Hobie outback for 12 years, I love everything about it except the weight, it knocks my back around and it's too heavy for the roof racks on my sedan. That revolution 11 looks ideal, when my outback eventually wears out I think that's the direction I'll head.

They are expensive new, but I got one for basically the cost of the mirage drive 180 and vantage seat from a dealer that had overstock of 2018s (the year before kick up drive became standard). Call around and see if dealers have blems or B stock, or shop used (although no warranty then of course). The biggest problem is just lack of space to put fishing gear, if you want something with an easily accessible live well plus tackle box, and easy fish finder attachment you likely need something bigger. It’s also a lot of work to sail it without sidekicks, it’s possible, but not a relaxing experience (thanks for the sidekick video Btw, mine are ordered and arriving next week).
But on the water, these 11’s are significantly quicker and more maneuverable than even Revo 13’s, not to mention easier to move and store out of the water. I can carry it from my kayak rack to my car without bothering with wheels. And it can absolutely be used outside the bay, the scariest part is just the small size and worrying about being seen by other boats. It’s very stable in swells and chop.

    Thanks for the honest review.
I’m impressed with the performance features. If you have this kayak for a number of years the price is bearable.

I love my Hobie so much, I can even put my sister or my dog in the back storage area and have my sister fish! I love letting her stand and get dinner while basically peddle her around all day, I feel so guide like. But the sad thing is my dog catches more fish than my sister.

I agree that’s a little pricey for the Revolution. A basic Outback could be purchased for that price and if you wanted something lighter and more stable to stand in then the Compass would be great. Always check online for used Hobies. You can really get some great deals. Got my PA12 for less than that Revolution and less than the Outback I have.

I had a Revolution 13. I wanted a lighter one because I am not getting any younger. In 2014 I bought the Revolution 11. I haven't liked it since I bought it. It's lighter, but not as good as the Revolution 13 in the water.

A HOBIE will last forever so don’t buy something cheaper if price is not that important. If economy is important buy a used one. I’ve had their Outback for 6 years and the Mirage Drive system is still in great shape. The Outback is designed for stability for the fisherman. I mostly sail mine so I should have gotten the Revolution which is narrower and faster. There are trade offs in whichever boat you chose. Don’t worry about the hull. All Poly boats are nearly indestructible. Ron Annapolis MD

😮😮😮WHATTTTT Aliex just said he would buy a Hobie kayak. I knew you would come to the dark side one day. I'm all for the Native but there is just something about the Hobie that makes it better. As you already know I have a 2017 Hobie PA14 and it is amazing really you need to test out the Pro Angler it's going make you trade in your native that night.

I'm telling you Aliex come out here to Corpus Christi Texas I'll let you take mine out and test drive my Hobie Pro Angler. It's the lastest and greatest Hobie has to offer has the 180 mirage drive so you'll even be able to try out the forward and reverse. You haven't seen STABILITY until you get on a PA 14.

E.G.A. Kayaking its the torque that the mirage drive has....I got a used sport, the smallest of the hobie line, and it handled great under rough wind conditions!

Light compared to a pa! Also you don’t have to transport it with everything on it . This video is 3 years old so yeah price is more now

So what would you choose a 2019 hobie compass or this kayak?

Only to get a sale on Hobie kayaks is last years model beside that nothing on sale "set price" all dealers! Hobie pa12 for boys & pa14 for men.

Little by little you are turning to the dark side!!!!
I agree that hobie is excessively overpriced, but I feel they have alot of torque on that mirage drive. I haven't really tried the propel drives so I will let you answer that question, do you feel that the mirage drive has better torque under harsh conditions?

+Wicked Bass84 I like that it handles grass like a champ. I really like the reverse on the slayer, haven't try the reverse on hobie yet

Capacity is listed at 275#. That's small for a $2400 kayak. Thanks for the review.

IT WAS A MISTAKE BY HOBIE! Read That again. There is no room for anything!
Even the pro anglers have limited room. Any roller that comes in…..you will get wet.
You will probably lose your equipment over board. I am an experienced kayak
    fisherman solely Hobie kayaks.
