What's really behind the condensate drain on a Navien NPE unit

  • This is something I get a lot of questions about and this week we had not one but three unites that were leakers because the condensate drains were not installed correctly. In my last video or several videos, I show the piping under the unit and how to assemble it, in this video I show the complete assembly and a little science behind it. I cannot stress how important it is to correctly install and convey the condensate from a Navien unit.
Just this week alone we had three unites of another company fail and one was only 6 months old.

Mike I thought for a condensing tankless unit with pvc venting that the manufacturer’s want you to pitch the vent toward the unit at 1/4” per ft? I’m assuming so any condensate will make its way through the heat exchanger, into the trap, and then out of the unit that way?

Hey Mike! First of all thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge on here. You’ve been a godsend for a junior DIY plumber like myself.
I have a Rinnai question for you. I installed a RU180in for my home. It’s working great, however I let my curiosity get the best of me and accidentally entered some form of programming menu. Long story short, I changed some settings and would like to factory reset my unit. I’ve tried holding both A&B, power cycling the unit, etc. None of these seem to change it back. I’m locked at 110F max temp and have concerns other settings were changed.
Is there a method to factory reset? If not, where can I find documentation that explains the advanced programming menu so I can verify all the settings?
    Thanks again, love the channel.
