Great song. Brilliantly played. Just saw them last Saturday. It was magical. @Jon reacts: Please consider to react to 'Hessian Peel'. It's got this perfect build up and a nice surprise somewhere in the middle...
I believe Mikael was having trouble with his harsh vocals around this time. He's changed his technique over the years and around this time they weren't as connected as when they recorded the album, or even now. If you look at some live videos from their current shows, Mikael has more of that "boom" to his voice again. At this concert it was noticeably more scratchy.
He had just switched to in ear monitors and that obviously changes the way you hear yourself... it took him a while to adapt properly. This was the weakest he ever sounded vocally on the growls. I've seen them many times since this gig and he sounds so much better. Never going to be the growls of 20 years ago but his growls got much stronger again after this period.
I’m here for it. @jon.reacts try Deliverance by Opeth. Loving the reactions. I enjoy seeing someone discover music I’ve been listening to for years, that may have gotten stale overtime. But hearing it with someone new allows me to appreciate it once again
@Jon.Reacts Man you gotta check out the live versions of either Demon of the Fall or Blackwater Park from Roundhouse Tapes. They are a few years before this and sound soooo good. The playing and vocals are really close to the studio quality. Not to mention they are 2 of their best songs and absolute BANGERS! 🤘🧝♂
@@markblaauw4961 Hmmm, I did reply to this but it's not here now. Weird. No, I haven't seen them live for various reasons. Anyway, I'm here to share this link with you. ua-cam.com/video/cbOAIOFFQO0/v-deo.html
The ending is repetetive and a bit weird, and its a reason behind that. Mikael said they play the same over and over again to give the impression of a man who is lost in the forrest, and everhwhere you look it looks like you have been there before, he panics untill he eventually loses his mind. Its a nice touch! They have done the same in a different song as well, but I wont tell you which one because that will ruin the first listening experience for you
The whole "roots speech" and then you got "now the roots are burning" lyrics, that was good:)
Ah, a masterpiece:) You gotta do Lotus Eater + live from this venue sometimes. The live video is fun.

Saw them yesterday, it was fucking great, obviously he doesn't sound as he did in his early 20s but he still sounds great live.

Yes yes yes
Demon of the Fall from Roundhouse Tapes = heaviest drop ever 🙂
Try something from The Roundhouse Tapes if you want to hear Mikael’s growls at their best.
As others here have said...definitely 'Deliverance'.
Hey, saw them live last Saturday. They played masterful. With Deliverance (of course) as the final song. Unforgettable evening.
@@markblaauw4961 That's awesome. I can only imagine how great it was. 🤘❤🤘
@@floridabelle Did you ever see them playing live?

Opeth inspired by Gojira and Jinjer ?? You’re kidding right 😂😆
What? When did I say that?
