Here's my best recommendations for getting the fastest internet speeds with PS5
Hi good video
Is that applicable on ps4 pro?
@@ryuheigamingtv2297 should be
Ur connecting us to Google should be the best DNS now. Up till yesterday i thought that Quad 9 was still the best. Had them for years, but now switched to Googles DNS.
Thanks as always for the tips. I can already see it now that my ps5 UA-cam library will be filled to the brim with your tip videos long before I actually buy a PS5! 😅😂
I agree with the lab cord idea. Being wired to the internet is soooo much more efficient. Wireless is very fast and is very helpful but being wired on the PlayStation just works to so well
I always make sure I’m wired. Best way to go.
Dont trust your neighbours? lol
@L_O_W_K_E_Y-G um clearly you don't have an Ethernet to USB type c or lighting connection handy. Fyi it's possible just slightly inconvenient
I think this joke went over a lot of people’s head.💀💀💀
@@iamjshep3 like a 747
While wired still have to make sure you are on a open nat type and not moderate
Another benefit of 5 GHz is that it's not a commonly used frequency.
A lot of items in your home operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency, like a microwave or baby monitor or cordless phone. If you have these close to you, you can get interference on your Wi-Fi and degrade your signal.
Good to know ! Thank you
Great! Tips, Thanks You so much 😀
Thanks John definitely gonna try these
Nice video. Always a little apprehensive about disabling items in router settings though, especially as IPV6 is more modern. Disabling may cause other other devices to not behave correctly. Also I wouldn't personally route my DNS through Google as there are so many tracking services the http request goes through via Google which I'm not comfortable with. 5ghz is good if your playstation is close to the router, 2.4 ghz is better if further away. I personally have a wired connection using cat8 ethernet cables. If I'm in a different room I use TP link wireless boosters to help with the signal. All my own experiences and not saying its the right thing to do, but it works for me 😀
Cat 8 is overkill champ

@@julianowilliams3263 cat 8 maybe overkill now but if he future proofing himself saving money down the line when we can get those speeds in the future.
@@troy028 what makes it overkill? i need to get off wifi but what's the different, does cat8 give you lower ping than cat 6 or 7?
@@sIudgefactory the difference is speeds and maybe latency also. Cat 8 can do like 40 Gbps. There no 40 Gbps from any internet provider right now.

Please John make this type of content on Xbox also. Really appreciate it if you do it.
What if I don’t have absolutely any problems with my internet but I still watched this video 😂
Ur connecting us to Google DNS. Should be the best now. Up till yesterday i thought that Quad 9 was still the best. Had them for years, but now switched to Google.
What monitor do you use john ?
Don't forget to configure those ports in the router to achieve NAT2. Some routers are so locked up you can only achieve NAT3. That will greatly reduce issues when getting NAT2 set up correctly.
Setting up a static IP on the PS and port forwarding correctly on the router you can get NAT type open.
@@Ingeanous that's what I do
Thx , it really helps
A great way to get a wired connection without having to get a long Ethernet cable is to get a WiFi mesh system. It comes with 2 routers, one main router and a satellite router. Connect the main router to the modem and move the satellite to the room where your Ps5 is located and connect them with an Ethernet cable.
I did and Ps5 treats it as a wired connection. So far no drops or even lag for me.
Yeah I did that and works a treat. And I somehow got faster internet speeds than we paid for.
What brand do you recommend?
@@TheUnlocker_ same here! I have a 200mbps plan and when I test the internet on the ps5 I get like 220-225mbps lol
I need help Even though I am using 5 GHz Wi-Fi with my Netgear R8000 The Wi-Fi range is pretty damn good but I usually get 80% signal strength sometimes it causes my ping to skyrocket at 200 MS then it goes back down to 25 ms even if I reboot my router it happens often I believe it's because my walls are pretty thick I have tried Wi-Fi repears or Wi-Fi extenders it doesn't work They keep telling me the signal strength is bad when it goes red My only two options is to get a Wi-Fi power line or a Netgear mesh extender which one is better? My internet speed is 200 megabits My PS5 is connected to 5 GHz Wi-Fi with Google DNS can anyone help? I will accept any answer 😎👍 I need to improve my ping since I am getting into the UA-cam channel business 😢
@@HeyCMDR1991YT
I’m not familiar with WiFi power lines, so I can’t help you there.
WiFi repeaters and extenders are worthless to be honest. They “steal” bandwidth from your main router and send it to the extenders, causing speeds to drop. It’s probably good for areas that you have dead zones, but for gaming I don’t think so.
Mesh WiFi satellites don’t steal bandwidth, it’s an extension of the main router, there’s not a different SSID that you will have to choose from, it’s the same SSID.
I regularly get 60-90 ping when I’m playing CoD Warzone, with the main router downstairs and the ps5 & satellite router upstairs w/ only a 200mbps internet.
So nice of you. thanks
Thanks you so much! I went from 32mb/s to 1,5mb/s.
Can I connect to the google DNS even if I have a WIRED connection? Or is that only for WiFi ?
I switched my ps4 to the ps5 couple months ago, I notice a extremily performance boost in my signal, no joke being able to download games at 20mb sec is Amazing.
Hey John any tips how to get a better Wi-Fi signal i live in a apartment with free Wi-Fi but don’t have access to the router . I’m using a tplink Wi-Fi extender it helps but still lags . Is there any better options out there to boost my signal instead of getting the landlord to run a Ethernet cable to me ? Thanks
@John glasscock do you still use S8000 smart switch? Or now you use the netduma?
Have you heard of issues where friends lists aren’t loading and groups aren’t loading when you first turn on the PS5? This has been a constant issue for me and I can’t create or join parties until I restart my system multiple times, finally having my friends list populate. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
You don’t need to restart - just toggle on/off “connect to internet” setting in the psn menu (the dashboard pop up thingy under network)
What if my Ethernet cable/ port is cat5e would I be better off wireless or to use the out of date connectors
Omg I finally got a ps5 so these videos actually apply to me now😭😭

Hey bro, I'll mess with the IPv6 settings on my router but do you know how to get my bandwidth up on Call of Duty Cold war on the PS5? a couple of weeks ago it was running at 2500+ kbps and now it's under 1k. I run an xr300 router along with my ISP modem/router provided by cox. I've messed with port forwarding and triggering, I've removed the extra security which made it go from a Moderate NAT Type to an Open NAT on cold war (PS5 is still running on a type 2 NAT regardless of all the settings I've messed with). I don't know what else to do. Running on a CAT8 cable not on wifi.
Please add tests: before and after

Hi John! I have a question that i always forgot to make but finally i reminded it...
How do you keep your PS controllers so clean?
I always wash my hands as soon as they start sweating but my controllers became shiny allover the plastic cover (normally they are supposed to have a matte paint but they become "smoother" after a while that i use them), which annoy me a bit because i would like to keep them as clean and as new as possible.
Hope you have some tips and tricks about it because i really need to know it 😂😂
Also nice video as always, you never stop surprising me with those tips and tricks, very usefull and very high quality contents. Keep up the great work 😉😎
I bought a box of Alcohol wipes that I keep near by. It takes the dirt right off. The granulated texture on the PS5 controller seems to naturally pull dirt off my hands, despite washing them before almost every use. Alcohol wipes are the only thing that seem to do the trick and it's very easy to clean
All controllers get shiny over time its just the use of the controller your hands rip the matte off of it
@@RS4AWLEY i guess i'll try it, thanks 😉
@@Moapin wish there was a way to avoid this, normally with the white one it's not that visible when it get shiny, but with the black one you can see it even better.

hey there.. so i’ve been having this issue where ive been having so much input lag on my PS5, even my ps4 and i think it has to do with certain electronic devices we have at home. Im not sure but im guessing the delay/input lag i have comes from dirty electricity or that one electronic device such as an old PC or a newer pc has the wrong voltage settings. So my PS5 gets very hot and the input lag i have is huge. Like the games i play arent playable at all. Is there any way to fix this with another cable or do you have any tips ? Im wired and i mostly play on 10-20ms and i have a gaming screen with 1ms as well. Been going on like this for years i would pay so much to fix it
What about upload speed?my ps4 on a wifi with NAT3 is still getting a faster upload speed than my ps5,either thru wired connection or wifi on any NAT type.both consoles also sat next to router
I’m wired but it’s plugged into my mesh system could this be a problem
John you should make video on why the ps5 shuts off while your playing the game. The issue is happening to one of my friends.

What can u do when I play with the Hotspot from your phone? On py4 it wasn't a big problem but on ps5 my internet is to laggy

You can't get faster net speeds than what you're paying your ISP, some cables can improve the speed up to what you are paying but not faster than that.
What Benq model is that?
Where I'm located my WiFi speed are 100Mbs download with 15Mbs upload, to maximize I run an Ethernet to my PS5. I also have a PS4 pro in the other room so I bought a 50ft Ethernet cord & performance is more than twice as good as it was using WiFi! Highly recommend using wired if possible as it alleviates the problems with WiFi connection issues.
@Suicide Kyd Agreed. I have one connected to my PC and PS5 through a 50ft cable. The cable cost me $7 off Amazon and I just ran it around the edges of the hall of my apartment.
Wired = Little to zero interference
My wifi speed was faster than my wired connection. I was using cat5 cable. Weird but true.
@@jizaye that actually doesn't surprise me. When I had my PS4 pro console next to the router connected to 5Ghz wifi I'd see speeds of 101Mbs download. Now that it's in the other room and I'm using a 50ft Ethernet cable I'm getting speeds around 97Mbs download. I noticed my speeds are more consistent now that I'm hardwired & for gaming I prefer consistency over raw speed. Thanks for sharing ✌️
@@CARLGULA I think latency is better on Ethernet though.

Does this fix the issue most PS5 users have that the PS5 says that the router does not support IP-Fragment, and that the console has been limited because of it?
when i switched to wired connection, when i try to turn it back on i have to manually reconnect to the internet. is there a way to fix this?
I have another issue with ps5. I can play online games, download games but most of the time I can't go to PS store to browse games (even the picture of the games don't load). Do you have any suggestions?
I like your videos and find them very useful. But changing DNS settings have no effect on download speeds in any computer or game console. DNS is only used to determine the ip of the target system, that is it.
Actually you're wrong If you don't know exactly what you're saying then don't say it at all Do your research before you make a comment 🤦♂️ changing the DNS actually does improve your download speed and upload speed and it also helps lower your ping It depends which DNS you are using the majority of gamers use Google DNS because it is overall a reliable secure DNS I have been using Google DNS all my life I can't simply play online games without it because for some reason my internet service provider from optimum is not that great 🤦♂️
@@HeyCMDR1991YT Dns has nothing to do with the download speed itself. It only helps you find the IP address of the host that you are trying to reach to. Maybe your dns is not good enough to find the IP addresses of those games you mention that is why use you are using Google dns. It is easy to try test download speeds with Google and nongoogle dns. They will be mostly the same
Would that code work for a Lan line

I'll look into it, thanks for sharing
I'm using a cat 7 wire and it's actually awesome, top speed.
a direct lan connection to your modem is best anything else will be lacking a bit.
with routers you have to worry about it getting brain freeze from time to time and also going wireless there will be always higher latency no matter what you do you can forward ports disable IPv6 or even make a direct connection by using DNP but no matter what there will always be latency with wireless.
your best bet is to just use the router as a spliter in the best case senario if your are stuck with using the router.
average latency for a wireless router is usualy between 12ms to 45ms depending on the router and your modem compatibility.
if you are force to use your router as a spliter and you are hardwired to it you should at the vary worse only have about 8ms of latency from the router itself this does not account for the area your in and what server it trying to connect to that varies by your ISP.
The numbers I saw suggest about 5ms latency using 5ghz wifi.
hey - question for you; i'm using a wired connection & my download speed is pretty decent 737mbps in the middle of the day, but my upload speed is terrible, 48 mbps! :( any suggestions? my ISP is Century Link and the wired connection is coming from my eero 6+... any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you
@@user-wx3xk8qk6r you will always have less upload speed then you have download speed usually between 10% to 16% of your download speed is average of your upload.
this all varies by your ISP and how many people in your neighborhood also by how many device connections in your household that will affect your upload bandwidth.
48mbps is not to shabby and is considered as mid grade.
