  • Julia Phillips' sculptures, inspired by tools and everyday objects, serve as metaphors for social and psychological experiences. These works, often featuring ceramic elements cast from her own body, explore power dynamics and human relationships. Phillips' use of glazed finishes in layered colors creates a tactile allure, inviting viewers to engage physically with her art. Her drawings, prints, and videos further explore the human body as a symbol for emotional and social experiences. Born in Hamburg in 1985, Phillips now resides and works in Chicago and Berlin. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at MoMA PS1, Kunstverein Braunschweig, and the Venice Biennale.
