Very good info, just turned 63 done a lot of extreme sports, worked heavy construction. broken my back, compressed disk so many times i lost count have calcification on my vertebrae, broken my right hip, meniscus removed in right knee in late 20's, torn bicep, shoulder injury's. that is the short list. never stopped working out, you learn to train around injury's. It scares me how good my body's doing now. done 100 pushup's 6x 2min rest in between, 40 front grip pullup's on my sixty-second birthday, I deadlift max 300 lb., squat 225 lb.. My workout program includes weight training, agility exercise's, balance, stretching, cardio which is mixed, burpees, sprints, jump rope, run in hill's, rowing and much more. the key is to make it a life style and enjoy it. You want to look forward to your next workout. The body is an amazing thing. Nutrition, Sleep, Mental health ( stress) are all just as important keep challenging your mind and body and it will reward you.
Lots of helpful info! The only thing I take issue with is “Doctors don’t tell you to change your lifestyle”. As a cardiac nurse I can tell you doctors and nurses are constantly educating patients on diet and lifestyle changes. More commonly we find most people are reluctant to changing anything.
GardenVariety - my experience as a patient confirms what you say. After a heart attack early this year, I was bombarded with a consistent message from doctors and nurses to change my lifestyle. So I did. 😎
"and nurses" -->You mean the obese ones working every floor in the hospital in my town, and the ones outside huddled up on smoke breaks? Yea, right. You should have seen the gut on the doc in the ER when we took my dad in. He must be a genius and performed a medical miracle and became the worlds first pregnant man.
I'm working on getting my health back at age 49. Haveing sleep issues has been and is still my biggest issue, I have sacropenia from lack of activity over the past 6-7 years now. I have a long recovery after one session of excercise. I'm curenlty using my body weight and resistant bands at home. I'm going to lay off using my bike for awhile.since it takes so long for my heartrate to come down after using it for 8- 10 minutes to warm up.

"100 pushup's 6x 2min rest in between, 40 front grip pullup's on my sixty-second birthday" --> I call bullshit; no fucking way.

Rubbish. The standard American diet is the cause. Once you get off the carbs and loose weight a little exercise comes easy.
I never believe steroid users.
