My husband and I have a kennel and have beautiful Yorkshire Terriers. We wanted to groom our own, so we have watched so many video's. This is the best video we have watched. I am amazed of the critics I have read on this video. I have much to learn since I always had a groomer do it. I learned so much today and will be showing it to my yorkie friends. Actually it's not "very wise" it's stupid, praising him when he's whining and running away makes him think that it's ok and will encourage him to continue that behavior.

Awesome job on this pup, handling is everything when it comes to puppies. I've seen some groomers force groom puppies, no praise, or let the pups do whatever they want.. then wonder why they are difficult when they get older. This was excellent.
By the time you were done, he was a happy, relaxed camper. He did so well with the nail clipping. My York loves to be groomed because she's a princess & greatly enjoys being pampered. She also knows that when she's finished, everyone is going to tell her what a pretty girl she is!! 😙

And she doesn't say too much beside "good boy". I think other professionals get fed up of my talking with pets. I guess it's instinctive. To be a good groomer, one needs to feel and understand the animal, beside the techniques and all the rational thinking. Like in many other professions, only who really loves them can actually take good care of them in such an uncomfortable situation like this moment. This shouldn't become an automated profession.
Groomers see so many dogs I don't think they will be talking to each and every one of them. The groomers need to concentrate on getting the grooming done. They probably only talk to the dog if the dog is nervous and won't sit still for the grooming.
J O I always tell my dogs they're being good if they are. I talk to them the whole time and love on them if say they don't like their feet touched but do alright with nail trimming, scissoring etc. I always like my dogs to be as happy to see me as I am to see them. Kinda like the dogs to see me as a friend
I thought this video was brilliant - really good, patient groomer - I've seen some videos where the groomer doesn't even acknowledge the dog, let alone praise and comfort them!

i like how you give the dog time to get "used" to the tools. I recommend to give the dog a couple of seconds to actually sniff at the tools, this is the way of dogs to explore things. it's their way of checking out and gives more opportunity to the dog to get familiar with it.

I agree with Helen Walland.. I have been watching some videos and most are mistreating the fur baby.. i saw one where the dog literally was so scared that she fell off the table and was hanging by her neck.. the woman that groomed her was so mean. I really enjoy this video with the yorkie terrier. TheDogWorldtv.. My teacup yorkie is on my chest and looking at your video so cute like when the baby started to wine. 5 thumbs up for this video. thank you for having kind loving heart towards animals. Finally a video that treats the dog with love and respect.

Nice to see a groomer praising the dog. Most grooming vids ive seen theyve been heavy handed and rough with the poor dog as tho there only doing it cos its a job and not cos theyre animal lovers.

Did you know, not all yorkies are the same size. The worlds biggest yorkie recorded, verified by blood test as pure blood, was over 30 lbs. It wasn't just fat, it was large. The original yorkies were around 25 to 30 lbs and we bred them to be smaller. Sometimes throwback yorkies happen and they grow large. Also there are show quality yorkies and pet quality, they can both be pure bred, but usually pet quality are a little bigger.

Make your dog enjoy being groomed and you will thank yourself for years to come. My dog loves baths because I make it a game of tug of war with the towel and treats in the end for behaving. When it's grooming time he jump up on the table as soon as he sees me getting the clippers. I can groom for hours and he don't care.
I have a picture of my dog laying down in the bathtub. Must be nice to have someone brush your hair, scrub all your itchy spots and then towel you dry!
she's so good with him. my yorkie moves around in different positions for me to get. but he moves ahead of schedule so... I get areas I can get and the areas I dont... well... just give up. lol. my baby loves bath time and grooms...just he wont stay still long enough for to give him the groom. ugh...wears me out just thinking about it.

This reminds me of when my mom would clean my ears out and belly button. It sucked, but had to be done. So good job to the groomer, she was patient and made sure he didn't get hurt. Even when she grabbed him from the chin- you could tell she was trying to be as nice as possible. I looked it up and it's a technique they use to make the dog stay still. I don't mind because this technique helps the groomer not cut the dog.

As someone considering taking up grooming I am wondering if a dog is too "wiggly" how I would go about doing its hair? Would you just do the best you could and tell the owner that the dog wouldn't allow for a certain cut? Or should I attempt it and risk clipping skin? I am more nervous about all this than maybe I should be but I am a basket case every time I think about how I will do this :(
You will probably have him on a grooming loop, which usually keeps them from wiggling. There are also ways to hold the dog. With the loop you essentially have three hands. You will have dogs that are aggressive or won’t sit still. In that case, you can recommend the pet parent take the dog to the vet to be sedated and groomed. Handling pets safely is a large part of learning to groom.

It was a puppy actually. She said 16 weeks which is like 3 and a half months. Dogs are puppies until like 8 months.

And she doesn't say too much beside "good boy". I think other professionals get fed up of my talking with pets. I guess it's instinctive. To be a good groomer, one needs to feel and understand the animal, beside the techniques and all the rational thinking. Like in many other professions, only who really loves them can actually take good care of them in such an uncomfortable situation like this moment. This shouldn't become an automated profession.

Groomers see so many dogs I don't think they will be talking to each and every one of them. The groomers need to concentrate on getting the grooming done. They probably only talk to the dog if the dog is nervous and won't sit still for the grooming.
J O I always tell my dogs they're being good if they are. I talk to them the whole time and love on them if say they don't like their feet touched but do alright with nail trimming, scissoring etc. I always like my dogs to be as happy to see me as I am to see them. Kinda like the dogs to see me as a friend
I thought this video was brilliant - really good, patient groomer - I've seen some videos where the groomer doesn't even acknowledge the dog, let alone praise and comfort them!

i like how you give the dog time to get "used" to the tools. I recommend to give the dog a couple of seconds to actually sniff at the tools, this is the way of dogs to explore things. it's their way of checking out and gives more opportunity to the dog to get familiar with it.

I agree with Helen Walland.. I have been watching some videos and most are mistreating the fur baby.. i saw one where the dog literally was so scared that she fell off the table and was hanging by her neck.. the woman that groomed her was so mean. I really enjoy this video with the yorkie terrier. TheDogWorldtv.. My teacup yorkie is on my chest and looking at your video so cute like when the baby started to wine. 5 thumbs up for this video. thank you for having kind loving heart towards animals. Finally a video that treats the dog with love and respect.

Well for me, I thought the video was very good, one of the best I've seen regarding just a tidying up of the coat and the puppy did well too. Thanks to the lovely groomer. Forget the critics they obviously have no experience of handling wriggling puppies.

I love this lady!! but this guy is way bigger than my 16 week old...shes just 2# and Ive found grooming to be a little harder!!
Did you know, not all yorkies are the same size. The worlds biggest yorkie recorded, verified by blood test as pure blood, was over 30 lbs. It wasn't just fat, it was large. The original yorkies were around 25 to 30 lbs and we bred them to be smaller. Sometimes throwback yorkies happen and they grow large. Also there are show quality yorkies and pet quality, they can both be pure bred, but usually pet quality are a little bigger.

Make your dog enjoy being groomed and you will thank yourself for years to come. My dog loves baths because I make it a game of tug of war with the towel and treats in the end for behaving. When it's grooming time he jump up on the table as soon as he sees me getting the clippers. I can groom for hours and he don't care.
You should make a video on how you do that
I have a picture of my dog laying down in the bathtub. Must be nice to have someone brush your hair, scrub all your itchy spots and then towel you dry!
she's so good with him. my yorkie moves around in different positions for me to get. but he moves ahead of schedule so... I get areas I can get and the areas I dont... well... just give up. lol. my baby loves bath time and grooms...just he wont stay still long enough for to give him the groom. ugh...wears me out just thinking about it.

When we tried cutting our yorkie’s hair we so goofed. We took trimmers to the top of his head. He looked like Mr. Noodle the clown when we were done.

This reminds me of when my mom would clean my ears out and belly button. It sucked, but had to be done. So good job to the groomer, she was patient and made sure he didn't get hurt. Even when she grabbed him from the chin- you could tell she was trying to be as nice as possible. I looked it up and it's a technique they use to make the dog stay still. I don't mind because this technique helps the groomer not cut the dog.

As someone considering taking up grooming I am wondering if a dog is too "wiggly" how I would go about doing its hair? Would you just do the best you could and tell the owner that the dog wouldn't allow for a certain cut? Or should I attempt it and risk clipping skin? I am more nervous about all this than maybe I should be but I am a basket case every time I think about how I will do this :(

You will probably have him on a grooming loop, which usually keeps them from wiggling. There are also ways to hold the dog. With the loop you essentially have three hands. You will have dogs that are aggressive or won’t sit still. In that case, you can recommend the pet parent take the dog to the vet to be sedated and groomed. Handling pets safely is a large part of learning to groom.
