Hey Brandon, not sure if you read comments but I really wanted to thank you for the content you're outputting. Your videos on the matter of pixel art is always informative and has helped me improve my own art for a game I'm working on. So I wanted to thank you for your high level content and wanted to tell you that you're gonna make it big soon. ~random internet commentor
Hey thanks so much, I'm glad the vids have been helping improve your game art - that's exciting! Best of luck with your project and thanks for your support! :D
I've been looking into starting pixel art character drawings because I go hugely nuts over stuff like the GBA Fire Emblem games and I love doing character design, so finding your channel has been a godsend. Your videos dive into the technical details and translate it to understandable, human-logic explanations, and then you demonstrate your work step by step which gives fantastic ideas for just how to approach starting pixel art. If I ever end up finishing a work, it'll be because of you, and I'll be sure to find you on whatever social medium you're on to show you! Thanks for all the hard work and great content
Man, those character sheets look so good! Was a little sad about the backpack not making the cut but I think the sash ended up looking really good, in the end!
Love cutie patootie Hana! Also love that the character sheet is animated. It makes Hana come more to life and adds such a cute charm to the whole sheet :)
Pixel art seems like one of the best ways to get into learning art as a whole. It's easy and anyone can do it. Even on a computer with a mouse. Plus, you learn all the fundamentals pretty early. Reference uses, simplicity to understand the shapes, and it opens your brain up to a more creative process
Its more accessible in the early stages, but you soon hit a plateau if you can't draw traditionally. Pixel art is just like any other art form, you have to know the fundamentals of drawing to become good. If gameboy graphics are all you want, then you probably wont need to. But anything beyond that, you're going to need the fundamentals to get anywhere.

Thanks for these videos Brandon, I’m playing about with making a Point And Click Adventure game; so I’ve been using these videos to help me make the graphics
Hello! I just found your channel yesterday and I've got to say after watching a handful of videos that I'm in love with your work! Not only do you make beautiful pixel art, your video editing and formatting is top notch. Thanks for posting, I'm eager to watch and learn more.
This would make such a pleasing game, I would really like to see this as a game. Character functionality would be interesting - the blade form of her bannerscythe could obviously be used as a weapon, but I don't feel as if a character like her would be suited for combat sorts of things. And, well... Flags are essentially useless in real life so I'm unsure how it could be utilized as a mechanic. Perhaps linked to a sort of magic, or an indicator sort of thing? I'm not sure, just spewing ideas
Thank you, and I appreciate the brainstorming! I agree, I don't see her as a particularly violent character either, so attacking things with a bladed weapon doesn't feel quite right. I like the idea that maybe the Bannerscythe was bestowed upon her, but it doesn't quite suit who she wants to be. The blade could be used to cut through difficult terrain, while the flag mode could be a default "resting" state, with other environmental animations and actions associated with it, or with the staff (activating buttons, etc.). Just throwing out ideas as well lol :D
Now im imaging a mechanic where she is leading souls to the after life and has to fight enemies along the way. So in banner mode souls follow her but she can't attack and in scythe mode she can fight but the souls wont be able to move and they would be vulnerable.
@@pinkys6063 That's clever as hell (dear god no pun intended). Overall, a lot of these are great ideas and would be fun to play I think. I might do some mechanic mock-ups if I can figure out how to get my Python program working.
Awesome video explaining the whole process... I wanted to ask, is it possible to share ur character sheet as psd or atleast how you layout all of it into different layers... i've been having confusions on using the Layers properly.... i tend to make layers for everything... so any suggestions or pics or videos of how u work with Layers would be nice....
@@BJGpixel Incredible! I've been obsessed with how fonts are done with low pixels forever and recently fell in love with this book called Arcade Game Typography. Was wondering if you were using something or if it was original. You should totally sell this original file somewhere like itch.io or something. I would totally buy it and I think a lot of people on the gamedev side would probably jump at it, especially if it's formatted in the friendly formats like GameMaker Studio 2's font_add_sprite or something.
Thanks! Haha you're totally right, it's too bad because I really liked the idea of that colour scheme for the logo...at least if I ever need a toucan logo I've got a nice start! 😅
I know this video is 4 years old. But what you say at 4:00 about someone needing to be "concerned" about seeing artwork in a sketchbook is really toxic. I think you make a joke of it. But it's not funny. And it is really passive-aggressive bullying whether you realized it or not. I just wanted to point that out to you. Your pixel artwork is amazing. But when you talk like that, you really push some other creators away who might be really beneficial to work with. Talking about death, making magical death characters, and things like that is not a sign of mental illness nor violent threatening behavior. It's not a fine joke to be like "Oh haha, are you mentally ill or some kind of murderer?".
Just a sidenote, hana means flower in Japanese, flower always goes hand in hand with death and heraldry

Where can i get the character sheet?

Guess I'll need to redo him
