- Kenyan motorists are now flocking Petrol Stations in neighboring Tanzania to buy lower priced fuel. The exodus by Kenyan motorists has led to a decline in sales on the Kenyan side, with retailers asking the Government to intervene in order to save their businesses.

In 2021, VAT on fuel in Kenya was 8% and there was a fuel subsidy. But still fuel was more expensive in Kenya than Tanzania. Why didn't Citizen TV make it headline news? As at 15th September 2021, the price of super petrol was at Ksh 134.72, diesel Ksh 115.60 and kerosene Ksh 110.82.
In Uganda, as at 15th September 2021, the price of super petrol, diesel and kerosene was Ush 4150 (Ksh 129.40), Ush 4050 (Ksh 126.20) and Ush 3710 (Ksh 115.68) respectively.

If you've travelled near border towns, fueling station businesses on the Kenyan side are usually close to Zero, because the neighbours always have cheap fuel.
