You gotta be careful making statements like that, or you're going to end up having an astronaut pop up with a gun to the back of your head. Cuz it always has been, baby.
This song lends itself uncannily well to this style of cover. I could absolutely have imagined an early 2000's folkpop group having an original song like this.
Scenario: the bard lands a gig in a tavern, rolls a 20, plays this banger, & the lawful good paladin & the chaotic neutral rogue who have romantic tension listen to this like Geralt hearing Wolven Storm with the added awkwardness of being right beside each other
I feel like there is an awe-inspiring "Titanic" bardcore-cover in there just waiting to emerge like a spherical butterfly. 😃😍 Oh I can imagine how lovely this is. 🥰
So hauntingly beautiful. It's like half remembering a heartbreak from a life a thousand years ago. I can almost see a maiden in the forest in the middle of the night singing this while casting a spell over a fire to save her heart from someone who's love is untrue.
I am honestly speechless. I came back to this channel after several years, having jokingly enjoyed Buskin Boots, only to discover a genuinely gorgeous and unique rendition of one of my favourite songs. Blessed art thou, Hildegard, and revered be thine work
I dunno what came over me but instant tears. Sobbing at some points. The original has always had a massive impact on my emotions and the uilleann pipes just kind of blew me away. Beautiful
I've listened to this song a number of times since it's been released. It makes me cry almost every time, and it makes me ache for things it feels I lost lifetimes ago when the icy winds swept over the mountains cold enough to make your lungs burn with every breath, but the fur from the hides wrapped round you were enough to keep you warm as you stood watch in the growing twilight for the one you loved.
Some songs just _really_ lend themselves to this particular musical style, and this is definitely one of them. I love how this channel fills my Loreena McKennitt cravings.
@@Hildegardvonblingin no, thank you. 😊 I've been listening to you work for a while, your voice and use of language, never fails to be amazing, beautiful and heartfelt.
This is now the 2nd best version of this song. Every time I go back to the original, I find some new perfection I never noticed before. The same is true of von Blingin. This isn't satire, it's not a joke. It's a beautiful piece of art. Bravo.
Fair Lady Hildegard von Blingin, her voice, a celestial gift, weaves enchantment, captivating all who hear. Her dulcet tones, akin to dawn's lark, resonate, granting glimpses of divine harmony. With purity and resonance akin to nature's wonders, each note she crafts transcends mortal song. Her mastery evokes emotions profound, stirring joy and melancholy alike. In her performance, music's essence unfolds, resonating within existence itself. Lady Hildegard von Blingin, an unparalleled minstrel whose melodies ensnare the heart and elevate the spirit.
I hope there is a music historian out there who can shed some light on whether these 'medieval covers' of modern songs would be appreciated in medieval times. Would they have been as enamoured and amazed as us? Wonderful, just wonderful.
OMG!!! THIS GIVES ME SO MANY CHILLS!!! THIS version sounds like it would play as a maiden sings as her warrior lover goes off to battle, and longing for his safe return🎉🎊
I usually enjoy these songs but this one is... bigger. More haunting than the original - if at all possible. Not a parody; not an adaptation; deeply moving in its own right. Beautiful. Thank you.
This Medieval version of the song is so beautiful 😍 I simply love it. I'm daydreaming of how amazing would have been to play this song in a court, in front of the King and Queen...❤
Brilliant treatment of a brilliant song. It's such a great song - it's hard to make a bad version of it tbh, but as other commentors have mentioned the lyrical adaptations are excellent. Deeply haunting and understated, a quality the original poseeses - takes you to another world, another time, another feeling....
I love the Uillean Pipes and the whistle in this, who would have known that Wicked Game could be played like this! 💖And the singer has a beautiful voice too!
I never heard of Bardcore. After listening I find it so beautiful. You have such a beautiful voice. Together with the ancientish music it brings me to other older realms. I’m glad UA-cam put you in my feed.
Forsooth. I have heard so many BAD covers of this song I had started to think it was impossible. I am thrilled to be wrong. This is amazing. Love it so much!
This is one of my favourite songs and due to that I have listened to at least over 50+ covers of the song on various platforms trying to find the best other than the original. This is the ONLY one that I have ever liked, if not completely loved, and I’m so happy you made this. I really thought I would never find a similar if not better version of this song. This blows me away💕
I think this is the best version of this song. It feels like stepping into a dream and also like a funeral dirge both the joy and grief of love. Well done, Hildy
Oh dang, the version by HIM is one of my favorite songs, didn't know it was a cover! I already like that one very much, so in another genre... it is beautiful!
Back in December, just after Christmas, this song randomly got planted in my head, before I had heard this cover and a long time since hearing the original. Now I know it was Hildegaard von Blingin' calling to me with her mystical voice. So glad I finally answered.
Well, I didn't believe that anyone could ever cover this song in a way that would reach inside me as Mr Isaak's version does, but bugger me if this doesn't go and bloomin' well do it!
Well, Hildegard really nailed it with this song. I've listened to her songs since 2019 and I now have goosebumps again. Thanks to her, the art of bardcore is still alive. This version sounds awesome. (It reminds me of my first 💋 as a young lad. It was at the Easter fair in Limerick 🍀1185- At least it could have been)
What an amazing cover! I admit that I'm more into heavier music, so my favourite version of this song is the cover by HIM. But this gave me goosebumps! Fantastic work by you and Aaron! The pipes added another layer to this beautiful song.
You've knocked it out of the park again, Hildy! Marvelous work, the instrumentals were magic and your voice the cherry on top, as always. Edit: many cherries on top. Goosebumps. Shivers.
I didn't want to, but after hearing this song I am now fallen terribly in love. Wicked art thou indeed, devilish songstress! (Have to say I think this may be one of your most beautiful works, your voice is truly enchanting here, and you evoke just the right amount of the pain that comes with love. Thank you for sharing it.)
Love how reliable Hildy is. Doesn't matter what she covers, it's guaranteed to produce goosebumps.
So true! ❤
Talking about covers I wonder what a crusader version of ‘I’ve been everywhere man !’ Would be like .

How’s the Eeyore film going?
Every time Hildegard releases a new epic, I go back and listen to your collab with her. Still my all-time fave. 😁
It's for people like you and your work, that I often find new reasons to live.

This has transcended from being a tongue-in-cheek meme to legitimate art. Soulful, beautiful, a joy.
Along those lines, we need to get Baroque Rick-Rolled

Beautiful
This isn't a cover. This is a musical love letter to the original by Chris Isaak. Absolutely delicious!
the best covers always are of course.

Where can I find early 2000s folk pop?
@@keaganwheeler-mccann8565 Blackmore's Night
I’m not sure if it counts as folkpop but there was a band named Seven Nations that almost fits the criteria.
@@keaganwheeler-mccann8565I second this inquiry

This honestly sounds like it coulve been a medieval song instead of just a medieval sounding cover. New fav unlocked.
This is incredibly beautiful. I hope Chris Isaak gets to hear it. I genuinely think he would love it.

As always your lyric rewrites are so beautifully poetic! "What a wicked thought to free to make me dream of thee" is gorgeous!
Agreed!

Just as haunting and somber as the original. The fact there's minimal lyric change speaks as well for what a timeless piece it is.

Yep. Thought of her too.
I strongly prefer this to the original. That main melody is just perfect for the pipes.
Beautiful! You have the voice of an angel as always. I think the pipes are the perfect addition to this song, they sound so melancholy and yearning
