In this episode I review the "Mashup" Surfboard.
Noel's Height 5'9" (175.26cm) and weight 165 lb (74.84 kg)
Stock Boards:
5'4" x 19 9/16 x 2 7/16 (27.1L)
5'2" x 19 5/16 x 2 5/16 (24.9L)
Love the channel, but there is room for one element that would greatly improve the relevance of your reviews to most of your subscribers. Right now, you test boards at Trestles and sometimes a wave pool. 99% of your viewers are surfing average beach break on most days. It would be great if you would add footage and and assessment of the board’s performance in everyday waves to the existing format. Then we would be able to see how it flows in optimal surf, but also how it realistically goes in everyday surf. It would be hugely helpful. Thanks for considering!
I am 150 pounds and I rode the 5’4” mashup and I felt like it was a little too wide and big for me. It has a lot of foam so it catches waves super easy! But did not feel like a board that I would want to ride often. I think this would be good for people that like fish style boards.
I was hoping my mashup would be a one board quiver for travel but instead I happily leave it at home and take my seaside and standard high performance shortboard still.
D2 and Seaside is a great two board quiver. The Mashup seems kind of unnecessary, so looking forward to your comparison
One thing I don't understand is how people say these boards can't handle in double over head surf. I have caught bombs on the glazer and seaside without any problems. I would not hesitate to take this board out on a 8-10ft day at blacks
You should review the DHD dna
Great review. Definitely looking at getting the 5'4". Did you try the Machado pivot fins in the board? Can't wait for the comparison review with the seaside and the dominator 2.
Sick review Noel!!
Hi I would like a review between sharpeyes blow fish, RFN mashup would
I had a 5’2” Seaside and loved it but I also had a 5’2” Classic Fish shape and I love both these boards but I sold my seaside to get the mashup and wow! I absolutely am loving the mashup as it has that speed and ease of catching waves similar to my fish style boards but I can implement some more up and down performance into my surfing and I found the board really helps yah dig those rails in on a turn and can get tight quick snaps in that head high and below wave size. I haven’t tried it in anything bigger yet but looking forward to trying as a 2+1 stabiliser after this review as I have just been riding my H4 fin thruster setup which has been super fast and responsive. Solid board I love it!
Your breakdown of the fins for this board could not be better. I felt the exact same thing surfing 4-6ft surf this weekend. Quad was the way to way to go on the smaller waves, but once it got head high the tail felt a little to lose as a quad. Based on it's liveliness, I just didn't have the confidence that it would hold if I want to do a powerful bottom turn and snap off the top in those conditions. I opted to just race down the line since I couldn't trust it. I got out and put in a large AM thruster set with a F8 center fin and the tail felt way more predictable and reliable in head high and above waves. I was able to push hard through my turns with confidence and the board performed predictably and beautifully. Thanks again for all the hard work you do making these reviews. They are epic. I know it's a labor of love, but its still work haha.
Great honest review as always Noel, bravo!
Ive had this board for a year and loved nearly ever surf on it, great review and I’m keen to swap fins around on smaller days.
I purchased the Mashup, with the recommended "Surf N Show P-Twins+1" this combination is magic. Thank you, Noel for recomending this fin setup.
Loved the review, can’t wait to see the comparison video between the three! Side Note: would love to hear your thoughts on the Arakawa Half Pint.
Thought this was a "Mashup" of all the Firewires you've ever surfed... boy was I in for a surprise! 💥🤯
This board is highly recommended!.... This past week i had a board consultation with Noel.
Been riding this for a couple months now and absolutely love it - quickly became my daily driver of choice and is just heaps of fun to ride! Also goes great as a twin + trailer too, but punchier surf it's quad all the way!
Wow- so knowledgeable. Really connected with this breakdown
Looking forward to seeing how it stacks up against the Seaside and Dom 2. 🤙
