  • Unbelievable Surfboard Review with Firewire Mash Up - WOOLY TV #33
    Wooly is back and the froth is real! 6 months has been a long time healing the knee but he is back ready to go and the third board out of the editing studio is the Machado x Firewire Mash Up.
    Wooly weighs 87kg/192lb and is 6'1"/187cm tall
    Wooly is riding a 5'10" x 20 1/16" x 2 3/4" - 35.5L
    Want to demo this board? If you are in WA you can demo this board at Star Surf + Skate.
    From Firewire
    Two minds combined.
    Rob Machado and Dan Mann have created the Mashup: A melding of each of their most popular designs; the Seaside and the Spitfire.
    Both board designers have spent time mixing and matching their favorite elements of each shape, and they’ve landed at something that goes fast in weak waves as well as a Seaside, and also drives vertically in good waves as well as the Spitfire.
    The Mashup is the ultimate groveler. And the ultimate everyday board as well.
    Built in Helium Technology, it’s one of our absolute favourite boards for 2023.
    What do you think of the new format??? Feel free to comment or send me an IG message.

    Agree on the volume and windy theory eps vs poly. Eps boards feel a lot 'springier' though, especially on small waves. The stoke was real in this episode. Keep it up!

Ill def get it in a smaller size for smaller waves but it's pretty versatile at a bigger size and i have surfed it in 8-10 ft steamer lane and other heavier sc north coast spots and it handles all comers so far. Great review Woolly, loved the piss-takes and humour, most enjoyable and relatable review I’ve seen 👍🏼
    I have a 6’6 Mash and a 6’8 Dom2 - the Mashup has amazing quirks of brilliance and really does keep speed on the weakest sections- but then sometimes it has the occasional hiccup quirk 🤷🏽‍♂️
    Except for perhaps the little extra plane on weak sections I don’t seem to notice a great deal of performance difference from the Dom2 which seems so much easier, or natural to ride. Love em both but recently bought a Kelvinator which again has a life of its own now that I found the right fin combo. My wife wants me to sell one - due to there being so much crossover I chose the Mashup to sell but I put a decent price on it and no one has offered that money (immaculate condition). That’s great, hoping wifey will forget about it because I know I’ll regret it 😂😂😂
    Oh yeah, we both know Bruce is always lurking along that stretch… 😅

    • @WoolyTV
      @WoolyTV  Рік тому +1

      Yeah there is a few Bruce’s around there 😂. I find the Mash Up very different to the Dom. Have you played with the fins much? It really is a different board after playing with the fins

      @@WoolyTV I run them both with a quad keel set up very similar to the Machado Seaside set, but honeycomb from Project Blank at less than a third of the price. They’ve discontinued them atm. I tried two plus one and thruster in the Mashup but didn’t like them. I really like the big drivers in the front boxes with the smaller rears.
      Perhaps I was hyped up and expecting so much from the Mashup, above the D2… I feel as though the D2 has a similar small wave range but a higher range for overhead surf. That’s for me personally and we’re all so different as riders 😊

      it rips. If you like this style tail, double v, with 5 fin set up, more nose volume, then youll love the rnf. I have the rnf redux which is similar at a 6'0 and love it as an all around, and this mashup takes it to another level.

    Hi Wooly. Rad review. I plan on getting a Mashup. I saw in one of your previous videos that you’ve also reviewed a JS Xero which is my current daily driver. How does the 2 compare? Or are they 2 different boards that can have their own place in one’s quiver

    • @WoolyTV
      @WoolyTV  Рік тому

      They are very different boards. Xero is a daily driver where is the Mash Up can grovel and be ridden in better surf depending on fin configuration.

    • @rctrix9063
      @rctrix9063 Рік тому

      @@WoolyTV Fins are accelerator thruster medium. The board is a 6'4 which is a bit big for my weight but not crazy over size.
      This board has some unforgiving qualities that I think are due to the flat spot in the rocker just behind the mid point. The shorter the board the smaller the flat spot which likely makes shorter versions less prone to the effects.
      However the board catches wave very easily and has plenty of speed, maybe too much.
      I live in merewether which is a short sharp king of wave. It's rarely a long ride and sand encroachment on the reefs can make it confused. I'm also old which isn't helpful. 😂
      Thanks for asking. 👍
