Thanks for everyone's feedback on my tour of Camp King! We can also thank Mr. Freeman, who was also stationed here at Camp King like you, for this video. Without his prompting, I would not have done it.
Thank you for the video, my family and I left Camp King in 1993. My Mom is German and grew up in Oberursel and my brother and I were lucky to have lived there as long as we did and consider it home and I still get home sick and watching this really helped. I can't wait to come back soon.
We were stationed in Frankfurt but my father was assigned to camp king towards the end of his tour. Sgt Rene Guerra is my dad. He was there for the shut down of the installation. Lots of good memories there.
Vielen Dank für Ihre informative Wanderung. Fortunate in Camp König stationiert 1966-1968 mit der 513th MI-Gruppe wurdenThank you for your informative walking tour. Fortunate to have been stationed at Camp King 1966-1968 with the 513th MI Group.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video and posting it. Having been stationed at Camp King 1984-1987 with the 4th TRANSCOM it was interesting to see what has happened over time.
So, all the old enlisted single story barracks were destroyed, along with the chow hall, bowling alley, PX/Commissary/Gym & rec center. The barracks, chowhall & rec center were as you went in the main gate & down to the left, the barracks (males) bordered that civilian side street, going away from the main gate you had the rec center then the chowhall & HHC 22nd Signals attached offices. Going up the hill you had the bowling alley with the drycleaners & post office under it. Then up a hair more & slightly to the left (towards front gate) you had the gym, commissary/px & something else, nco/enlisted bar maybe. I was stationed there in 91-92, never did see much of it since was enlisted, no car & 22nd Sig was mainly located down in the front corner. Still miss the area & wish I had thought to explore more. Nice video, shame to see some of it gone but at least its being reused.
Maria thank you for a little piece of Germany after the war Camp King was very important in relocation of displaced persons and of course Elvis is so famous in Germany best ambassador we had.
Good Grief...I was on Camp King some many times in the 1980's. It is today, obviously, a totally different place. I remember the Bowling Area, the gym, the NCO Club and the Motor Pool. Camp King was the home of the 4th Transportation Command.
+Fred Jones No, it's not him, because this Mr. Freeman lived on Camp King from 1974 - 1976 and was in his early teens at that time. I'm happy to know you enjoyed the little tour.
thanks for the tour, but I hardly recognize the old Camp King...yes, the appts by the gate and the Taunus Mtn Lodge...the whole stretch of stores on the left....the old MOV bldg, bowling alley, etc....

Thank you, Maria and Margo, I've got some very fine memories of the camp and Germany from back in 70-'71.
Thank you very much for the tour. There are very many of us who have very fond memories of Camp King and Oberursel.

Lived there from 1966-69...makes me sad that it looks nothing like it did when I was there.
If that was 1SGT Freeman, I was there from 84 to 86. Great seeing the place. I was with 4th TRANSCOM .. E-2 to E-4.

+Maria Shipley Very cool. I also ran the Camp King Theater from 85 to 86. I was cashier, film editor, and, presenter. It was a fun part-time gig.
