First time i saw this young girl on internet she touched my heart, felt kind of deep compassion feeling, thank you Severn.Actually I think she is absolutely right on her speech, because all the enviromental prblems we have in the world are created by civlized men,so,this man is the center of the problem, this man has to be healed ,this man has to be happy, honest, fair, sensitive, than surely he wont do any harm to himself and consequently to nature and humankind.

    Hello,
Yes. Severn Cullis-Suzuki has been speaking on the environment since she was a child. Her depth of understanding on the issues, and her passion make her an incredible speaker.

I love that she's making an effort to educate people. I believe that we should all do our best to take care of our world & ourselves so we don't have problems. We all need to be compassionate. I, for one, would rather be safe than sorry & NOT polluting the earth seems like a sensible thing to do. Clean up after yourselves. No one wants to sit in other peoples waste. If we at least do the best we can, even if it's little positive changes then we can feel good in knowing that we did our part.

On the one hand I have to suggest that no one naively expect that everyone in the world will become enlightened, but on the other hand, many will, and change will come... albeit...well...will it be too little too late? We'll have to wait and see... But there are no other viable options... so thanks for lending your battered and bruised voice toward the abused and seemingly defeated cause of goodness...

her mother a geneticist, her father an environmental activist. of course. and as expected she grew up and got a degree in environmental biology at Yale. why is it that every body whos somebody goes to Yale, or Harvard, or Princeton or MIT or Ect... but mostly Yale or Harvard. im sure it was easy for her to get into Yale after having done so much at such a young age. quite amazing. im sure she feels very accomplished.

i was a HUGE supporter of these ideas. i belived that we would be able to sustain ourselves through adopting these principles. but through trying to apply these ideas i soon realized that the social and economic forces in the world greatly outweigh any efforts to be green. ppl dont want to be told what to do. ppl dont take well to moral scolding. by enforcing an environemnal ethic we are creating a list of limits to what ppl can and cannot do.

I'm also an advocate for this. I support Severn Suzuki, today & forevermore. Anyone may deny the fact that she really is telling the truth. If anyone denies her truth, that anyone is a disgrace. Everything she says is coming from her heart, not just from her mind. She just proved that she cares, not just the environment but also YOU to realize the fact that we are destroying the Earth and there may be the worses thing that may happen or the very worse thing to come, nuclear or biological warfare.

  • @clobo70

I just wake up in the morning and feel quite happy that there are other beings with whom to share this one planet. Just as plain as that. The fact that humans can survive without it (which is where this discussione started in the first place) as far I am concerned has nothing to deal with the fact that humans have no particular right to jeopardize it. That being independent from religious views.

I'd like to make a stern comment to each and every person who has left a negative comment of any kind toward this astounding and influential woman: exactly how far up your butts have you stuck your heads? Just because what she has been fighting for sounds simple in practice but is, in reality, a tall order, doesn't mean it's something that we shouldn't all fight for.
Enjoy choking on your own wastes. Keep fighting, Severn!

Me too. It's like we're an extension of this huge living being. Humans have come to create words, vibrations, to describe it.... Mother Nature, Mother Earth, Planet Earth, Gaia, whatever name we apply, so many of us feel for this naturally thriving, creative, life-producing system. we have control over the seemingly small piece of this planet that is ours since birth - our bodies, our actions, our choices - if we change the piece we have control over, we change the whole thing.

the start starts at the beggining , if you are a teenager I think is enough , people with power do less and you dont criticize them like this, i don't understand people who always look down when someone do something good even if it is a little thing!! we can not expect a gigantic change from night to day! the answer clearly will not come from the sky it beggins in a small scale. DO SOMETHING that's a start!!

As for the health effects of meat consmption. well thats either up to the consumer to decrease meat consumption or the biotech industry to decrease the fat/cholesterol content present in the meats tissue. Growing meat in culture would facilitate these biotechnological applications.

it doesnt matter what the cause is. we only need to be proactive once the temperature increase affects our livestyle. And at this point its not, and i have a feeling the temp wont even rise to the point where it will.
there is not point in debating the cause when we arnt even seeing the effect of "the warming"

I was fighting an Hodgkin's lymphoma..so i guess i can't tell you what a "normal" child of 13 does, cause I don't really know. I only know that sometimes children are more mature that the adults. They see life in a quite different way, so, sometimes is easier to comprehend real life for them. And you? did you really thought in a different way when you were 13? can't it be that you think in a different way now cause you are disillused? try to think of it.

All the problems on this Earth stem from the human mind...destruction is preceded by destructive thoughts. Lack of love and tender care for one another lead to unhappiness in the mind, which leads to uncaring actions toward our Earth. If we all just train our minds, and develop compassion, the Earth will be saved. How do we do this? Thru reading books on Buddhism, or the Bhagadav Gita. Meditation is essential.

@thatjohnharveyboy I'm not completely agreeing with CheEliyahu, you surely have a point. But you are aware of the effect of another atom bomb? The news is full of new production of nuclear weapons and plutonium, especially in the Middle-East. The effect will be the same as it was in the Cold War, if one nuclear bomb is dropped there will be a total war scattered over the world. Which means total destruction. I think this is what CheEliyahu means. But I agree with your point of view.

  • @clobo70

If you start analysing each syntactic fragment of your definition what come out is a plain anthropocentric perspective, but if you don't mind there are several other species on this planet that might not agree with your definition.

teenagers are the future, so listening to wut they have to say is important.
and wut im saying is that we are no longer at the beginning. The beginning began in 1885 in Canada with the formation of its first national park. Since then, numerous parks have been created and things have not gotten any better. Preservation is not the solution...nor is it part of the solution. It just distracts us from the hard work required to create a sustainable relationship with the natural world.
