Loud Rumbling Engine Noise From Cabin - Honda Civic 8th Gen 2006-2011: How To Diagnose, Fix & Repair

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- This video is to help you diagnose loud rumbling / vibrating noise coming from engine area on an 8th Generation 1.8L Honda Civic (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011). The noise / vibration can be heart / felt inside the cabin and is more prevalent on the passenger's side. Here are the #ᴬᴰlinks to tools, parts and accessories you may need to perform this repair:
1) amzn.to/3gDNMs8 (Honda Genuine 50820-SNA-P01 Engine Side Mounting Rubber Assembly)
2) amzn.to/2G9rsdu (ENA Front Right Engine Motor Mount Compatible with 2006-2011 Honda Civic DX LX EL 1.8L L4 A4530)

Sometimes roughness can be felt in the steering wheel. A rattle in the dash and engine area may also be heard. Sometimes the noise can be worst when the vehicle is in reverse than it is in neutral. Sometimes it feels like if the engine along with the whole front frame shakes up and down. When driving the rumbling and the noise felt as if you're in a plane during take off. The noise can also be felt or heard during idling especially after a cold start.
If this is the case then most likely culprit is engine mount has collapsed. Apparently according to Honda Forum on the internet, this is quite common for 8th Gen Honda Civic (06-11), DX, LX or EX doesn't matter, some have failed at under 50,000 miles and many people are wondering how come it is not on a recall list. Our car is a 2010 Honda Civix LX and the mileage is about 150,000 miles.
Obviously loud engine noise, rumbling, rattling etc. can be attributed to many other mechanical issues or problems such as leaking exhaust pipe, muffler, gaskets, bad spark plugs, MAP sensor and so on, but most of these issues would generate an engine code.
So if you are experiencing loud or rumbling engine noise as described above, you should open the hood and check the right or passenger side engine mount so see if it had collapsed (the metal bracket is touching the mount). Check the video out for description.
Once you have identified the problem, you can go ahead and order the part. We suggest for this particular issue, you should order Genuine Honda Part 50820-SNA-P01 Engine Side Mounting Rubber Assembly. OEM part is very expensive though, around $215 from our local dealers. Online dealers are a little cheaper. There are many cheap aftermarket parts for around $30+ such as MotorKing available either on eBay, Amazon.com or from local autopart stores such as O'Reilly, Advance Autoparts and Autozone, however reviews indicated either the part doesn't fit right and require modifications such as drilling hole or it doesn't last that long because the hydraulic failed.
Once you have ordered the parts, we suggest you come back to EyeOnAiman's channel and check our DIY automotive repair video on how to remove, replace and install the right side Engine Mount. Alternatively you can bring the car to the mechanic and they'll replace it for you for around $150 - $200 labor not including the part.

U guys are awesome omg wow absolutely spot on thats my exact problem . As a lady I needed to see this video so that when I get to a mechanic they won't b able to pull a fast 1 on me. I've dealt with some really shady mechanics
Thank you for this video! My Civic has been making a bad vibrating noise and I didn't think it was the front motor mount until you explained the gap between the rubber and the mount. Appreciate the help!
This dude is honestly helped me more with my car just making videos than any mechanic ever has with my civic. Plus I love how bro isn’t scared to admit when his dad helps him with something or tells him to say something without pulling that “I did it all by myself” bs that 95% of these other UA-cam mechanics pull
Thank you Aiman, you were the only one to actually show the part & what happens when it's worn (drops down). You will make a fine technician! Keep up the good work.
its called as engine bed. the part will go off with in 65k kilometers, same thing happened in my civic
Thank you very much guys, you are the only 1 in 3 videos I watched that mention the GAP, yeah, that's the visual clue that it needs replaced. I paid usd$190 for the Honda part, and another $135 to get it installed, I don't have a floor jack. The dealer wanted $600. Utube is AWESOME!
You guys are great. Having done this to two civics in our household, I can say it will take more than an hour for the average DIYer. Also make sure you have heavy duty sockets (half inch drive), a breaker bar, and a way to jack up and support the engine from underneath. I used aftermarket parts from Rock Auto and so far they have been holding up fine. I like your video a lot. Going to check out your others.
How’s the aftermarket working after a year?!
@@45kingofkings It’s been about four years now. I sold one about a year ago, it was holding up fine. The other one is starting to get a little noisy. I will probably replace it in the next year and get new mounting bolts.
@@EB-nz1qv thanks !
Legend has it .. it still rumbles till this day
Your dad looks younger then you
Lol that's his older brother
Dude, thanks. I was lookinhnfor this answer for a very long time. Thanks again
You will be successful in a few years and fans will look back on this! Good job. Keep it up!
Thank you, I appreciate it! Stay awesome! :)
Great Video, I have been trying to diagnose this problem for several days, chasing my tail. Your discussion of the problem and the source are excellent!
Does it matter if the AC is turned on or off? I think I have the same issue, but I noticed that its louder and more obvious if AC is turned on, doing a reverse or at launch/low gear,. thanks and more power
Did you ever find out? This is exactly how mine is
same here. If I turn the AC off, car is much more quiet and calm at idle. The thing shakes so bad with the AC on, It makes you wonder if it's going to die.
??? Same issue I’m having rn
My Civic (FK2 - europe model) has irritating deep loud engine sound between 4000-5000 rpm. Sound is deep and muffling, like BUUU, sound like typical 8 valve engine when you rew it too high. On 6000 rpm it is much better and quiter.
Does anybody know what could be a cause? Air intake system?
I have a 2010 Honda Civix and this is what I’m dealing with and also when I go to start the car it’s very loud and after letting it run for about 20/30 mins it gets a little quiet Also I don’t hear whe I go out of park mode and into drive it’s gets quiet in drive mode
On these models (8th gen) watch out for cracked engine blocks. It effected 2006-2008 and some early 2009 civics. If it happens now you are in trouble. The warranty has currently expired and the fix is a new engine block. You cannot fix a cracked block.
Um, well thank you for telling me this. I think I'll go panic and cry in the bathroom
True it happened to me this January right after I went back to work from being sick with COVID. Talk about when it rains it pours. In saw an 8th green on the freeway on my way home just now, fire fighters were dousing the hood with water. Hood was gone. Melted. I’m guessing engine overheated and caught fire.
How about 2011
THANK YOU! You just diagnosed the issue perfectly! Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much for this I been going crazy thinking what's wrong with my 07 civic... my mount is exactly how yours was... liked and subscribed 👍 basically I have to replace the same exact mount.
Do you have the motor mount videos? I saw the first one. I looked and can't find the others.. Thank you.
Perfect guys thank you for your Research Good work keep it up !
This is happening to my 2007, that is exactly it mine sounds like
Thank you for posting this. I just bought a 2009 that is having the exact same symptoms. At first I thought the previous owner had installed a resonator exhaust. My mount is collapsed exactly as seen in this video.
almost 3000 rpms at 45,sometging must be wrong with your transmission.Mine doesnt go that above 3 at 65 mph
That was sudden acceleration on an uphill trying to induce the vibration & noise for the purpose of the video. The transmission is fine, although we've had to replace the 4th gear sensor at some point in the past.
You're a genius in the making!
Thanks, dude! I'm pretty sure this is the noise I'm hearing.
Thanks very much! You're a very knowledgeable young man keep up the good work dude!
I appreciate that! Thanks for commenting!
Same thing happened to me 2013 Honda Civic EX 95,000 miles thank you ☺️
Cynthia Ledesma My 13 civic is starting to do these at 110,000 miles
Thanks for the video. I have a 2005 Ford Mustang that the engine noise in the cab is so loud that I have to wear earplugs. I searched all over youtube and they said it is usually an exhaust leak under the cab. I pressurized the exhaust pipe with the exhaust from a shop vac and spraying windex on all the joints. I had no exhaust leaks on my car. I will go ahead and replace my motor mounts. It never occured to me that the engine rumbling would transfer from the engine into the chassis and into the cab. You guys are pretty smart!
That little light ticking noise in the engine bay, I think it's because you need a adjustment on your intake/exhaust valves. I have the same noises but when I compared it to my friends engine, it doesn't have that noise....I need help.
You're most likely correct, but our Civic is still running strong with no other issues so we're not sure how to fix it, if it's necessary....
Honda civic needs the have there valves adjusted. That's exactly what it is buddy
EyeOnAiman thanks for the video, my car does that when cold but after 1 or 2 minutes to noise dissapears, do you think is the same problem ?
3:05 He explains how to diagnose a engine mount issue.
Hi Alfredo Isaac! How did you solve it? I have the same problem. Thanks!
Was this the issue? I have the same problem but the sound goes away after it warms up
@@claytondales3011 Yes, same problem. Solved.
So my Honda Civic has started doing this thing recently where it rumbles and makes a heavy noise in idle and reverse only but not in drive. However the same problem then goes away after 15 20 mins. I have a Honda Civic 2011 1.8l and 65000 milage. Any idea if it's the same problem ?
Behrawar Khan I’ll take my best guest to say that your mount is damaged, the same thing happened with mine, take a look at your car
Mine too..same problem in reverse...this video solved my issue
Big thanks to you for this video. My 8th Gen coupe was baffling me with its incessant rumbling. It sounds like the inside of an idling race car.
I'm wondering if this is what's wrong with my car but I'm not sure.
It seems like my whole dash vibrates loudly and I can feel it in the steering wheel but it only happens between certain rpms when I'm driving and never when it's idling.
Get your wheels balanced
@@howtowithelizabeth7513 ok thanks
hey man thanks I went outside an took a look an that is the problem I was looking just never knew until now
It’s the engine mount. Change it out and it would be fine
Thank you chinito
Ayyyye thank you!
$400 +$200 parts??? Fuck that!!! I literally just did this job on a 2004 Mazda 6 in 20 minutes for $25 aftermarket part. Crooked ass mechanics man...
Awesome video keep making them. Highly informative, giving examples of an solid advice.
Weird, I checked the torque mount and the hydraulic mount, there is no play, no cracks or leakage, but the gap, this is maybe 5 mm. I can hear some vibration on idle, the engine is suoersmooth untill 3000 and 3500 rpm I can hear anoying humming. I thought is was the muffler, but now I am question if it could the mount, dealers though are rip off in y country with OEM parts.
I was 12 years old when my dad began teaching me about cars. Yes he was ASE certified and barely knew english. I had an immigrant father. You're doing great, keep going. Eventually you will be like me, i'm almost 40. I hear a sound and I instantly know where to look, what to check, how to fix. Simply by a sound. Being able to fix a car with no check engine light, is the core of what being a mechanic is. It's a talent that isn't gained by going to school for automotive. More importantly, you fix it right the first time, with hearing a sound. Over time I have learned how to use a scanner, reading the graphs and identifying the problem, but thats the stuff they teach in school. I gained it, simply through experience.
I bottomed out my car bad in gravel then it started to do this exact shaking idk how that cause the engine mount to break but it does look exactly like this in the video with no space so i hope its the issue
Motor mount
You remind me of William Hung from American Idol audition in 2004.
Holy balls....mine was also broken...collapsed fully....i changed it costs around $228 and fixed this sound issue for me....thanks for pointing out i look forward to more 8th gen videos
Girls Fitness what is the part called ?
@@jordannibanez3917 it is oil mount for engine i think.
Please support . Same sounds coming from.my car but i am at site and no chance to show mechanic. I have to drive 300kms tomorrow . speed limit of roads 160 . Is it safe to drive and what precautions to take while driving
Hey bro ihave a 99 Honda Civic ex & when warming up & after it’s warmed up u can hear & feel slight thumping & the engine rumbling but when I press gas n see if it moves it doesn’t can it still be the motor mounts?
I got a Honda Stepwagon RK5 and I got the same noise, my mounts seem cool
Any thoughts please?
Cheers
omg life saver
That job will take a first timer about 4 hrs. Hard to get to bolts and nuts. Better to pay someone to do it right.
Is it okay if I drive with the collapsed mount still for a couple weeks or so
You have a great dad and even more proud of you for absorbing the knowledge. Youre a natural teacher too! Thank you.
Damn. My daughter's sounded like I was inside a rocket ship!
Can you adjust it instead of purchasing a new part? Because I was told my mounts are new..
Jesus christ a genuine fart from a dealer cost 250 dollars for them to fart ? 4:06
Thank you .. this was my problem... 2006 civic
What if you don’t change it does it happened anything to the car
My 2009 Honda Civic and I both thank you!!!
Thanks for he knowledge 🚙👏🏼
great video man, perfectly well said.
Am i seeing double ? Is mom a clone too ? ......."..sorry coudent help it
Great vid. I might need to replace my engine mount
I have the same issue, bought the car from my brother. He was driving it like this for at least a couple months could this problem be fatal? Or can your car run without it?
This is not the same for a hybrid. It looks different
I am having the same exact problem!! Thank you so much! Before this vid, I was thinking if it's an exhaust leak or restricted exhaust or bad engine parts or bad chassis parts
Great video bro. Thank you
make more car videos. For honda.
Does it damage the engine if i keep driving when this happning
It shouldn't affect much but its really irritating when you do drive it. Eventually you should replace it because its still a piece that holds your motor in place
Yes it can damage things around the engine and other parts in time. Because of this vibration, parts can start to loosen up or in time the mount itself could be damaged badly to make the engine shift a certain way and then damage the transmission itself.
3:23 love the cat
Good job and thank you!
My Honda civic 2004 when I put on my airconditional going like 18kilom when I slowed down it we start vibrating why please
Really helpful video👍
I've changed all mounts on mine, twice. The factory ones lasted over 100,000 miles. The OEM & Beck-Arnley ones I bought recently only lasted two years. Same with all four calipers. These cars are made with junk parts, even though the engines themselves seem to run forever.
Which of the two do you recommend?

Vibrations under the Civic anyone??
Whats is that part name
Mine does it in reverse only
Very nice video
Great video!
thank for showing
Great tutorial
Ok. So what is the part called?
Motor mount
I have an 09 civic and mine does it bad at startup and idle and it's bad at low rpm in park or neutral but goes away under load but comes back if I let off
Thank you for the video. Very informative.
Awesome I can’t wait. Just curious on how to do this. Lot of people have problems such as jacking up the engine from oil pan, but engine tends to tilt backwards. I hope to see your perspective view.
Thank you!!
What happens if you dont change it?
You will eventually wear out your other motor mounts and possible damage other parts if you engine tilts too much
This is great information. Thank you!
What about in same car but manuel ?
I have the same question. My car is manuel
Transmission (auto vs manual) has nothing to do with engine mount.
Well I just did the drivers side TRANSMISSION MOUNT... still had that vibration afterwards. We'll do the passengers side next. I like your video presentation and your excellent description of what noise and vibration is being experienced!
karl28560 its almost always the upper passenger side mount . It fails . They make hydraulic mounts that last longer
Did you manage to fix it?
@@scsclassics I've replaced mine twice and the vibration is back. I'm just ready to live with it.
