    He's had the same coach since he was a kid and it's also his old team partner . It's not like he goes to the tournaments w him now or gives him way points . It's no different if your son loved baseball and you didn't know anything about baseball getting him a hitting coach. If you are blessed enough to have the means to help your child pursue their dreams then that's what you do especially if they are like trey and work for it . He wasn't given anything period . Did he have advantages over some of course but he earned his way and worked hard to be where he is period .

      if a parent has the means to support their child's dreams, they should absolutely do so. Trey’s dedication and hard work are what have truly gotten him to where he is today. Having a coach who has known him since he was a kid might provide him with a solid foundation, but it’s his effort, talent, and perseverance that have propelled him forward. It's similar to any other sport, where a good coach can guide and support, but at the end of the day, it's the athlete's own commitment that makes the difference. Trey clearly earned his achievements, and that deserves recognition.

    If they would draw Lake Guntersville down 6ft in the wintertime, I think it would fix alot of the problem. Or it would at least kill back alot of the grass population every year without having to spray chemicals in the lake. Lake Chickamauga has a draw down every year. I don't see near the problems there.

    The word coach is being taken totally out of context here. I know Trey and Rick Cheatam, Rick has been fishing local tournaments with Trey for years, Rick has been a local stick in southern Illinois for 40 yrs and very well respected by local anglers, a very quiet man. All the old time locals around here respect Rick and celebrate what Trey has done. If you do some research Trey had a fishing show when he was 12 yrs old. It’s no different than a father teaching his son how to fish, or any older experienced outdoorsman taking a younger person under their wing to pass on what they know which is what were supposed to do. Trey has been obsessed with fishing since he was a little bitty kid, he’s worked for this his whole life. This is the problem all this stuff being taken out of contest, people losing their minds over a young man having the success he has and will continue to have and instead of celebrating it doing everything in their power to tear this kid down along with Rick who has done nothing but take a kid under his wing and be his mentor. Trait zaldain started a big shit show over Rick fishing and his 10 yr old grandson who has cerebral palsy in Alabama that happened to have a tournament on one of the lakes in Alabama that there was going to be an elite on. What people don’t know is they signed up to fish the entire trail. It’s a shame this is what’s happening in this sport…

      I am not saying Tray did anything wrong. As stated in the conversation, how should organizations define and regulate a coach going forward that way we limit any “potential” funny business?

    • @altielannom4590
      @altielannom4590 26 днів тому +1

      Because this whole “coach” thing is taken wrong. Rick isn’t taking him to these lakes, giving him way points etc. he fished local tournaments with Trey for years, saw a kid with a drive and passion to learn and took him under his wing and passed on what he knew and pushed him to go for it. Now the entire world is losing their minds and ricks name getting thrown around on all these podcasts making him look bad when he’s a hell of a fisherman, very polite very quiet and looked up to by all of his local competitors and has been for yrs. I just think it’s sad

    I just don’t understand why people can’t just have respect and etiquette anymore. With that said; no one owns the water and there is a reason why blast off numbers change each day in these tournaments. First come, first served. However, if you pull up on someone. Be respectful and just ask. Do you mind me fishing in the area? If they say; yeah I mind. Then leave. If they say no; then be respectful and give space.

    Don't move in on someone while they are fishing! If you leave, then fair game! You don't own the water! It sucks when you leave an area to maybe let it rest, or maybe you're rotating spots, but that's the risk you take by leaving a spot! I sat on a spot almost 8 hours because I caught a good limit within the first hour.....

    @LomaxFishing 26 днів тому

    Correction, you can’t during the tournament. If you watch live during the tournament, that’s a rule violation there. Then if you go fish it during the tournament you just seen it happen in and go fish the spot, that is a rule violation. If you seen it last year, and fish it this year, then your good. Just can’t watch live during tournament and for sure can’t go fish it during the same tournament if you seen it live the day before or same day or really any time during tournament

    I live here and this is just the routine spraying tva does every year. I'm not condoning it in any way and I'm convinced if they leave the hydrilla and milfoil alone it would eventually choke out the eel grass. I will also say the lake gets healthier every year.

    DISCLAIMER I quit following tournaments mid 2019 and everything I know about this issue has come second hand. IMO It's chicken sh*t to intentionally spud someone's spot and race him to it. There's really not much difference between that and driving by someone catching them and waypoint it and race him to the spot the next day. That's not to say anyone ever owns a spot or that people don't stumble on the same spot, in which case; first come first serve.

    Fishermen shouldn't need a referee in the boat. Should be a gentlemen's sport... problem is at this level they get blinded by trying to make a dollar and develop a fan base and common sense unwritten rules go right out the window.

    • @fishingthedmv
      @fishingthedmv  25 днів тому

      The idea that fishing should remain a "gentlemen's sport" without the need for referees in the boat is an admirable sentiment rooted in tradition. However, the reality of modern competitive fishing, particularly at the professional level, presents challenges that necessitate a more structured approach.
      As the sport has evolved, so too has the level of competition. With higher stakes-such as significant monetary rewards, sponsorship deals, and media exposure-comes the potential for increased pressure on anglers. This pressure can, unfortunately, lead to situations where the "gentlemen's rules" are overlooked or misinterpreted. The introduction of referees in the boat isn't about undermining the integrity or spirit of the sport; rather, it's about ensuring fairness, consistency, and transparency in a high-stakes environment.
      Additionally, having referees in the boat can protect the reputation of the sport and its participants. When common sense or unwritten rules are violated-whether intentionally or unintentionally-it can lead to controversy, which in turn can harm the sport's image and the public's trust. Referees serve as impartial arbiters, ensuring that the competition is conducted fairly and that any disputes are resolved promptly and objectively.
      while the notion of fishing as a "gentlemen's sport" is noble, the realities of professional competition make the presence of referees a necessary evolution. Their role ensures fairness, maintains the sport's integrity, and supports its continued growth in a modern, high-stakes environment.
      Unwritten rules can create several problems, particularly in competitive environments:
      Inconsistency: Unwritten rules are open to interpretation, leading to inconsistent application. What one person considers fair might be viewed differently by another, creating confusion and potential conflicts.
      Lack of Accountability: Without clear, written rules, it's difficult to hold participants accountable. If there's no official standard, enforcing rules becomes subjective, which can lead to disputes and resentment.
      Unfair Advantage: Those with more experience or knowledge of these unwritten rules might gain an unfair advantage over others, especially newcomers who aren't aware of these informal guidelines.
      Increased Disputes: Unwritten rules often lead to more disputes because there’s no clear reference point. Disagreements can escalate when participants have different understandings of what’s considered acceptable behavior.
      Hinders Growth: For a sport or activity to grow and attract new participants, there needs to be clear, transparent guidelines. Relying on unwritten rules can make it difficult for new participants to feel confident and welcome, potentially hindering the growth and development of the sport.

    Dude... Trey has had this coach for years. He was his fishing partner and taught him the things he needed to do to get to the elites and how to survive in the tournament world. He doesn't have to give Trey waypoints or anything else. No offence but you need to do your homework before touting misinformation. Trey is a stick. Had his own tv show at 12 where sticks were actually teaching him patterns and how to fish structure. Trey can find his own spots. Ricks real last name is Cheatham. He's a former FLW pro. Once again, homework.
    Oh by the way, its Johnston not Johnson. Cory was in the wrong. The spot doesn't have their name on it. They even said on live it was a "community hole".

      If you actually listen to the episode all the way through you would know the conclusion reached which is the correct one is that Trey is not guilty of anything.
      My point was about how professional organizations should approach the broader idea of Fishing Coach. While Trey’s achievements are impressive and undeniable, the conversation about coaching in professional fishing is bigger and there should be a conversation about it.

      @@fishingthedmv you're right I didn't watch the whole episode. I'd go back and watch the rest but just what you said there was enough for me. Anglers have always had mentors help them along. The only difference here is that Trey actually acknowledges him as his coach. Most of these elites never made it on their own and will tell you that. What you're saying is factually incorrect

    • @fishingthedmv
      @fishingthedmv  25 днів тому

      I appreciate your perspective and understand where you're coming from. Mentorship has always been a significant part of any sport, including fishing, and there's no doubt that having someone guide and support you can make a huge difference in an angler's career. Acknowledging that relationship openly, as Trey does with his coach, is commendable and sets a positive example.
      The broader conversation isn't about the value of mentorship but about how these relationships are managed in the context of competitive fairness. As the sport evolves and more young anglers come up through the ranks, it’s important to have clear guidelines to ensure that everyone competes on an even playing field. This is especially true as the distinction between a mentor and a coach can sometimes blur, particularly when it comes to sharing information or strategies.
      Your point about the youth movement in fishing is well taken-it's exciting to see the next generation stepping up, and with them, the sport will continue to grow and adapt. As this happens, it's crucial that we maintain a balance between honoring the traditional mentor-mentee relationships and ensuring the integrity of the competition.
      Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and I hope you'll consider watching the rest of the episode to get the full context of the discussion.
